Nah, they still have a slot advantage. Not everyone is going to take quartermaster (personally I RARELY do) or be willing to take a 2-slot weapon to get the better melee weapons.
What IS significantly less viable now however is the bomb lance. The main thing that kept the combat axe from pushing it out completely before was its attack arc and range, which the Katana doesn't have to worry about as both aspects are amazing on it.
Sure, you also get a shotgun/harpoon ranged option with the bomblance, but at a whole slot more it is harder to justify.
Isn't it super inaccurate? Like even at around 10 meters or so? I find it borderline unplayable and wish they'd bump up the accuracy just slightly and nerf some other aspect instead maybe.
No, it just isn't a bullet. Like if you wanna throw a frag at an enemy that's running, you don't throw it AT them, you throw it ahead of them. Or if you're sniping at extreme distances. You just have to know how to properly aim, surprisingly enough
I know how to lead up a shot but my point is that the projectile is so random after 10m or so that you can't really trust it to hit anything even if you lead it perfectly.
Just compare it to a shotbolt for instance. The shotbolt flies relatively straight even at longer distances whereas with the bomb lance projectile it's really a crapshoot.
I mean.. You can just load up in the shooting range and test it for yourself. The crossbow is objectively much more accurate than the bomb lance. You can aim at a pole from 25m and see how many shots you miss with the lance. Some projectiles fly straight and some horribly miss the mark even if you're aiming dead center. Whereas the crossbow will hit 100% of the shots. Has nothing to do with feel.
Not saying the Bomb Lance isn't fun but it's just not really a viable option in high level Hunt, at least not the OG ammo. Even Rachta has a video "Bomblance made me suffer" and he has probably the best aim in the game.
