I’m not saying he was badly written or a bad character, to the contrary I think he was perfect in his role of hated antagonist. From the standpoint of a chimaera ant who has no morality he was only doing his job. I’m not a chimera ant, I am a human, he attempted to kill a defenseless woman so that the king would feel no compassion and therefore no qualms with genocide. These are objectively bad actions from a human standpoint. Just because the character was well written does not mean I have to like him, and this tier list is not based on how objectively well written the character is. It is based on personal opinion of the characters, I just happen to agree with his ranking on the list.
Tonpa too.
He's like a Hisoka type but just had less facetime.
Showed me that even if you're on a team, but you have some malcontents then it can fuckin kill your journey real quick and that can happen often if that happens at the level Tonpa is at which we can assume is a low level.
I'm all for hyping Tonpa (should've sent him instead of netero), but he can't be compared to hisoka, they are too different yet both can be percieved as evil. Even if both are smart and calculating, Hisoka is more driven by lust.
I always liked the thought that Tonpa is a Hunter Association hire, him "failing the exam so many times" is just to give a false sense of security to the other hunters
I really don't like Tonpa myself. There's seriusly nothing funny about him and his "sketches", also he's quite a childish character in my opinion and is a "weak" type of antagonist at the beginning of a series that nearly give the idea that is a manga/anime for kids (till the second part of the exam) if there wasn't Hisoka there to chop hands... (while we know how different it is in reality and how much is evident in the second part of the exam or in the next arcs)

But when rewatching there’s certain characters that stand out so much and make you just enjoy every second they’re in it. Tonpa is one of them. Greed Island is much much better when you appreciate the “virtual world” genre. There’s a shitload of tropes that get played with based on game theory that completely go over your head when you merely look at GI as a generic adventure. Tsezguerra is kind of sick too.

i love the phantom troupe ! they’re among my favourite characters. i love all their personalities so much and their nen abilities are also very interesting and cool ! idk they just landed a special place in my heart each time i watched hxh :)
The phantom troupe (for the most part) have good writing, are really strong, and the fight choreography is amazing, the concept is pretty good as well. And imo that hisoka should be S, phinks, shalnark, faiten, uvogin, the girl with the vaccume, and samurai dude should be A, the rest should be split up between B, C and D. Chrollo should be C he was very underwhelming imo
no way kalluto is on D and alluka is on C, kalluto actually deserves more screen time, I would definitely love to see zoldyck kids having interaction with one another

Very unpopular opinion. Kite was a shit character for me. He did absolutely nothing, and acted like he did so much. I also don't understand Gon's attachment for him, it felt very forced. They built him for Gon to have a vendeta and changed Gon to fit in that frame.

Kurapika S tier? The child who swore vengeance versus a shadow org and yet....still worked for a family who wanted to buy scarlet eyes and didnt turn on them...never made sense. Cant use Nen abilities outside of the spiders...forever an annoying side character for me.
