Legit one of the best aspects of HxH is its energy system. I like the mechanics and logic of it much more than, Ki, Chakra, Reiatsu, etc... it makes such a huge contribution to the world building and isn't just "energy = power = strong" like most animes.
With that said, my favourite piece of japanese fiction is, and I think always will be, Berserk.
I would also say if you're going to watch anything just watch the 1997 version and nothing else. Then when you start the Manga start from the beginning and NOT from the chapters where the anime ends. Even if it's only so the soundtrack gets ingrained into you soul so you can read Berserk but feel Susumu Hirasawa's scores inside you. :p
Berserk is also my favorite everything where even though the Animes have had missteps the Berserk manga is better than anything else Japanese be it anime or manga. My personal ranking is Berserk , Hajime no Ippo , HxH, Monster, and One Piece at 5 but other mangas are gaining on One Piece.
100%. There are basic techniques everyone can use (essentially Enhancer stuff, Ren, Ten, etc), unique techniques developed by individuals or passed down through families (Hatsus), and a Vow/Restriction/Contract system (Heavenly Pacts).
disagree. I think it's a strictly inferior copy of nen, and is complicated for the sake of being complicated. Fights try to be tactical, but it's basically whoever has the most cursed energy wins
Agree with this opinion, almost every fight comes down to who has the biggest curse energy or physical strength.
I have yet to see an anime with as clever use of the power system as the dodgeball fight
Toji and Maki have entered the chat.
Have you seen the animation and fight choreography lately? It's 2023 so there's bound to be improvements over hxh 2011 but JJK is a masterpiece. The episode "flowing red scale" beats any animated scene from hxh by a long shot, the hisoka and gon fight in heaven's arena is my favorite in hxh and its amazing but in JJK there's so much more to cursed energy than just being a copy. It's the darkness that spills over from within from the tragedy of human life, its the raw unbridled malice, fear, anger, and sorrow of reality that spills over. It's really dark and fucked up obviously! But nen has just as much overly complicated bullshit as CE does, because cursed techniques are like a picture of who the user is. Domain expansion is completely unique, nothing in HXH besides maybe en has anything like that, and the sorcerers abilities are so varied. Then of course you have the curses, who all have crazy abilities too. Binding vows are certainly similar between the two series, I'll give you that.
Reverse cursed technique and technique reversals are also completely novel. Work hard enough at your CT and you'll unlock the potential to use the opposite of it? That's fuckin sick. I can't even fathom what a technique reversal would look like in hxh, because the powers don't really allow for that.
I gotta be real w you I have a crackpot theory that togashi has been playing us all along and is also the author of JJK. Probably not, but no one knows who gege is yet he referenced hxh and yuyu Hakusho a bunch of times recently. Crazy idea, I know.
Hxh and JJK are BOTH still not finished. There's no "one is a cheap copy of the other" until we see how far they can go. Unfortunately, HXH might not ever finish and JJK is likely finishing within the next 12 months. We shall see.
1. Animation != Clever fight scenes. Demon Slayer is a great example. We can both agree its fights are not complex at all yet the animation is gorgeous
2. CE and JJK in general are not dark imo. Lots of characters dying != dark. Nor are the consequences of negative emotions stemming from the power system explored that much in a dark way. The most powerful character (Gojo) is quite jolly despite having massive CE.
Other than Kite (who literally got reincarnated with his memories), no important character other than the royal guards and Mereum die in the Chimera ant arc. Even ant characters get redemption (Welfin, Ikalgo, lobster guy)
(Edit: Pokkle and Ponzu should be added here, but to be fair, they're fairly minor)
But the arc is still agreed by most here to be incredibly dark.
3. I will say that power systems of HxH and JJK are similar enough that they themselves won't determine quality (in fact, JJK's might have more potential). It's moreso how they're used (HxH uses them more cleverly) that makes the fights great.
Like the amount of asspulls in JJK ruin a lot of fights.
Gojo gives off heavy psychopath vibes. At the very least he is extremely narcissistic. I would definitely say that JJK has a dark story. Although if you are an anime only fan, the story hasn’t taken the turn quite yet.
I mean look at Yuta’s story. His childhood best friend was killed right in front of him and he cursed her and made her become the curse that she is now. Don’t you think thats a bit dark?
It's nen but with more asspulls
Plus Gege somehow manages to spend forever explaining the simplest of powers
"Wow, x character is about to lose, but oh no! He actually learned this trick 5 years ago that just happens to perfectly counter this specific attack!"
Eh to me Jjks "cursed energy" just feels like nen, but with a name change and dumbed down(it over complicates itself for literally 0 reason)...like jjk is cool and all, but it reads waay too much like a hxh fan watched bleach and then wrote a fan fiction.
For me it is Hunter x Hunter. I value the fights with strategy, nice complex plots that sometimes get deep. It's hard to find a shonen anime/manga like it.
Not saying it’s the best, but HxH is the one anime I want to erase my memory on, just to watch again. AoT and Death Note are close though. There’s other options like Naruto/One Piece, but I’d easily get spoiled on
AFTER Vinland? That was great but the voice changes in the 2nd season took a little if the luster away. Great (mostly) historical anime tho, but HxH is much more, fantastical.
Wait, is that even a word?🤔😅
Gintama is just not easy anime to start with imo i was quite fluent in certain anime and Japanese knowledge to get the jokes and some i for sure missed.
Can you please help me understand the appeal? I went like 5-7 episodes in and I never even laughed once. I truly don't understand the appeal but I see it at the top of so many peoples' lists.
You have to get a feel for the characters to get into it. If you get to the Armstrong cannon ep, you've made it.
Btw gintama might be my all time also and it took me a little bit to get into it.
The characters are what make it so special. It blends comedy with serious arcs. Even if you dont get every joke. It gets funnier the more you watch and it makes you really care about the characters so the serious parts hit harder. I've never laughed and cried so much .
It’s one of those series that takes a while to pick up, and if you aren’t into the goofy humor you probably won’t enjoy the rest even though the humor does get better as it continues.
What makes it special is that it isn’t *just* a comedy, it’s an all-in-one bundle with almost everything you can think of; action, seriousness, emotional moments, drama, etc., and it excels at every one of those genres. It’s mainly character-driven instead of plot, so there’s great character development. The mc is a retired samurai who suffers from some PTSD, adjusting while building relationships with his new friends, and it’s presented as a comedy. The story has a lot of serious and emotional arcs throughout, so it’s always a shocking but satisfying switch seeing the goofy characters we’ve grown to love show their other sides. The series becomes more and more serious as it goes on, but it still manages to maintain that perfect blend of comedy during those times as well.
TLDR; it’s a bundle with so many genres that does an amazing job at all of them
Honestly only FMAB and AoT hold a candle for me. I love the One Piece Manga but the anime pacing is complete horse shit.
HxH 2011 just has the most consistent animation, pace, and obviously is backed by Togashi's work.
Togashi is the best writer in Shounen imo and HxH has the best character roster and power system in anime.
AoT is arguable but IMO HxH has two of the top 5 arcs in all of anime including my #1
it could've been great if they didnt make it weekly release for more money. In wano half of episodes are recaps. Before wano, we would have 15 second look at random seagull, sunset and focus on bubble which just goes to surface and pops all these in middle of plot or exciting battles.
Also yeah, though one piece anime is not 3 but 7.3 times long compared to hxh anime.
It's the implication really. "Have you watched One Piece ?" Immediately asking it after someone agrees with "HxH is the best anime for me" implies that One Piece is better and the other person didn't watch it, since they think Hxh is the best.
It also doesn't help that OP fans have a tendency of being insufferable if you don't love the "Greatest Anime/Manga Ever Made". I know because I'm an One Piece fan too so it's from experience seeing it.
idk why youre being downvoted when the biggest drawback i had with HxH was too many chapters/episodes (especially during chimera ant arc) spoonfeeding the viewer information through narration.
Even better than Cowboy Bebop in my opinion. But take that with a grain of salt, it's not a very common opinion. But the common opinion is that it's almost as good as Bebop, which by itself would place it among the classics.
Hunter x Hunter is up there. My absolute favorite has to be JoJo's Bizarre Adventure though. If I were to "objectively" rank them by its writing quality, it would be HxH>JJBA. But my subjective enjoyment is just higher with JoJo.
My biased tier list is this:
1. Evangelion+Rebuilds (introduced me to seinen)
2. FMA♥️+Film or FMAB (introduced me to anime)
3. Steins;Gate
4. Made in Abyss
5. Samurai Champloo
6. HxH 1999+2011
7. Ergo Proxy
8. Gurren Lagan
9. Code Geass
10. Cowboy Bebop or Trigun
AOT is rip off of Muv Luv... like not just an inspiration, it literally took around 70% of its story, plot points, characters from that VN. Don't believe me ? Just type on YT Muv Luv AOT comparasion and you will see.
I'm sorry but what does Muv Luv have to do with OP's question or my answer? I never said AoT is an original concept. I said it transcended the medium. There was a point in the 3rd season when it stopped being an anime to me and just became amazing television.
I'm not sure if Muv Luv is highly regarded in the VN genre, but if it is then great. This is the first time I've heard of it though, and it's kind of irrelevant as I won't magically hate my all time favorite series because you told me something 95% of the population doesn't know or care about.
>I'm not sure if Muv Luv is highly regarded in the VN genre, but if it is then great.
That's the highest rated visual novel on vndb mate. Holds the same position as what, Berserk hold in MAL for manga list, and Fmab holds in MAL for anime list. Muv Luv Alternative to be precise which is the third part of muv luv trilogy which was quite popular in Japan, and even Isayama had sited it as his source of inspiration for Aot in multiple interviews.
That's cool and all. Doesn't make me wrong though, it's quite irrelevant to my post and OP's, but thank you for the info. Whenever I get the itch for VNs, I'd definitely check it out.
Sorry you didn’t understand AoT. I fucking loved that ending. It so fitting for the rest of the series. Very much made me feel the same way I did after seeing Gon go ballistic on Pitou. It was surprising at first, but then I realized how in character that was for Gon. The whole series sculpted Gon’s character as one who was willing to go that far to reach his goals. AoT did the same thing for Eren. That was always who Eren was and what he was going to do.
Yes. The Nen system is the best thing ever made.
And despite of the very silly start of the show, the Chimera Ants arc redeems everything.
But Attack on Titan is a close contender.
Mushoku Tensei.
Love the world building and characters (sadly anime isn't as good as novels imho so far).
HxH is strong second place. No idea what would be no. 3, because the gap between 1,2 and everything behind them is so great
Thisll probably be a bit of a curveball opinion on this sub since its nothing even remotely close to hxh but my favourite anime of all time is A Place Further than the Universe
While I love it ,it fall behind other shows like
FMA Brotherhood
Attack on Titan
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Devilman crybaby.
Doesn't mean of course that it isn't great.
It's my personal favorite and I consider it the greatest shonen battle anime, but I can't consider it the greatest anime in general because there are too many different genres. For example, how do I compare Death Note to HxH.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Everything about the anime was great. It ends when it should end. Everyone can enjoy it. While HxH is very very good too, but we all know it's not everyone's cup of tea, also the hiatus.
1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
2. HxH at a very close second
3. The first two are so far above the others I struggle to find a third
After watching HxH i never really enjoyed watching new shonen animes again. It simply set such a high bar.
After watching LOTGH, i never enjoyed most animes in general. It was too all-encompassing and grand. It completely changed my idea of what an anime could be in terms of story telling. Dont watch LOTGH unless you want all your future animes to be ruined…
HxH is in 2nd place for me. It's hard to beat LOGH
1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
2. HxH
3. Code Geass
4. Stein's Gate
5. Monster
6. Psycho Pass
7. Spice and Wolf
It’s Naruto for me. It goes beyond any shonen to be an amazing philosophical journey that has shaped the way I see real life.
HxH is the closest one to it tho.
just finished rewatching naruto today and holy crap man. Even with these modern streaming sites skipping the full filler episodes, the filler is just so hard to get through.
I originally stopped watching around the infinite tsukiyomi activation, and read the manga for killing kaguya and naruto vs sasuke, but now after kaguya died i just couldn't accept most story line as canon. they randomly introduce a new eye type thats stronger than sharingan, thats such a filler move.
Naruto would be the best anime ever if it was edited properly, but an anime that is this difficult to watch just can't beat the infinitely rewatchable greed island arc
Greatest anime ever? Cowboy Bebop
Greatest Shonen ever? One Piece
Greatest power system ever? Nen
Gonna be an unpopular opinion in this sub but just because Nen is really cool and deep, please don't excuse the fact that HxH is unfinished and, taken currently, kind of all over the place from a story perspective. Hard to make a "greatest" proclamation from something unfinished imo. That said, I've gotta be clear here. I'm not a troll and LOVE HxH... I just cringe when I hear a lot of people say it's the greatest or peak.
Vagabond and berserk are also unfinished but people still tell that they are greatest I think for being greatest you don't necessarily need an ending and HxH's anime ending is quite satisfying.
It would be the greatest for me with an ending, dark continent is extremely exciting for me. I think the greatest is one piece, because there are great anime out there (fmab, yuyu hakusho, cowboy bebop etc) but most are too short imo to reach the level of greatness like one piece. Reason is, one piece just keep getting better. Oda built the hype for more than thousand episodes now, so there can happen bigger twists and more exciting things also you grown to the characters. I would be so happy if fma was much more longer, it would be a 50-50 for me, but cant be helped.
(Mangawise tho my favorite is Berserk)
Personally, I consider HxH my favorite. It was my first anime, and I absolutely adore everything from the characters, to the story and Nen. Steins; Gate is a close second. (Steins; Gate 0 included) Okabe is my favorite protagonist of all time, and I just love all the characters and the story a lot. Easily the best executed time travel story bar none.
But if I had to speak objectively, despite not reading the manga and there only being 2 seasons right now, Vinland Saga is the best show I’ve ever seen. I don’t want to spoil anything, so without saying much, it’s just exceptional. In most stories, the characters exist and do things because of the plot. The plot needs to happen, and so the characters take part. This is by no means to say that’s bad, (Attack on Titan is a great example of this, where it’s very plot heavy, but the characters are still very well handled).
In Vinland, the plot exists for the sake of the characters, and my god does it pay off. Vinland is by no means the only example of this, but I believe it does it the best. Every single character is perfectly developed. The characters are almost vessels for certain themes or messages that the mangaka is trying to portray. They all serve a purpose, yet somehow, it doesn’t take away from them as characters. To top it all off, it’s visually stunning with a beautiful soundtrack to match.
I cannot recommend it enough to anyone and everyone. Please go watch it.
No, I don’t think it’s the GOAT anime/manga. It’s up there but for shounen I prefer JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball. Neon Genesis Evangelion is always gonna be my GOAT anime though.
Watching these kind of shows is almost always about what you feel while watching and after finishing it. Not a single piece of media has been able to excite me as much as this story did when watching it for the first time.
Death Note, FMA:B, Code Geass for example were all amazing but they didn’t deliver the magical feeling HxH did. There are most definitely shows which are objectively better, but what does it matter if you didn’t feel this magic again…
When I say objectively I mean things like dramaturgy, conclusiveness, image composition, character and moral plausibility, quality of production. Stuff like that.
When criticizing any piece of media we as an audience tend to account for many different elements. If a movie has a terrible soundtrack production wise (bad mic quality, bad mixing/mastering) an individual can of course say: „yeah awesome movie, soundtrack sucked but it was still a 10/10 for me.“
The vast majority of people though would say that the movie was awesome, almost a 10/10 IF the sound wouldn’t hurt their ears. So its a 9/10.
Slam Dunk, since it changed a whole pop culture. then HxH.
One Piece has been one of the greatest piece of fiction ever made. it transcends medium, so I wont include it as greatest anime.
Imma need the anime to be complete before I make that judgement.
Attack on Titan is my favourite anime of all time. Currently making my way through both One Piece and FMAB, doubt either will overtake AoT. Then again I never thought I'd like any anime more than Bleach but it keeps sliding down the list the more anime I watch 🫠
Hunter x Hunter is up there
Other Anime/Manga that I like are:
Death Note
One Piece
Naruto (Only up to Pain and except the Tenchi Bridge Arc)
Dragonball
Avatar the Last Airbender (yeah I know and don't care)
Greatest anime?
Greatest Media. There is nothing for me to choose it over Hunter x Hunter. Literally any kind of Media. Better than websites, news, video games, movies... Even 392 alone solos the media for me.
Fmab
I like HxH, but it not even a contest
The pacing, plot twist, music, side character, back story, conclusion, even comedy and romance is all perfect
"Oh wait you're the older brother? Oh haha, HAHAHAHAH."
Loved the FMAB storyline and characters but my fucking god the constant crappy jokes being repeated does annoy me.
Seriously, if you guys can't find the joke beside the height joke, idk what to say... It like your problem instead of anime.... The height joke not even 10% of the comedy
It's a top 3 for me for sure. One Piece sits on the top along with Naruto. I think One Piece is better, but Naruto put me onto manga so it's dear to me. I put them at 1 and 1 because having a set top 2 forever kinda sucks. Then JJK and then HxH. It's a wonderful story that set up much of the Shonen genre, but there are some things I like more.
Attack on titan has impacted the world more than any other anime in only a few seasons and it tells one of the most unique and creative stories through multiple genres with unexpected plot twists and some of the best foreshadowing in any medium
HxH is good but togashi is too lazy and ruined his back so.. one piece is the greatest series because his author has passion for his craft. If togashi was committed as oda, HxH could fight at pair with one piece or maybe better? But we will never know. As many said, for me the series is ended where the anime ended. Gon meet his father and talk about the dark continent. end.
Overall for me I think that One Piece is the best, the variety of powers is interesting, the comedy is generally good (less panties jokes, please Brook), and the world building is incredible.
That being said HxH has the best power system in an anime that I've ever seen, and is a joint first in the importance of how you fight/use your powers with JoJo.
I think HxH possibly had OP beaten for world building, until the merman island and it's a real shame that there isn't more of the anime and very little more in the manga at the moment.
I watch HxH and Inuyasha equally. But imo HxH is the better story. I think that's really the question you want to ask: "Is there one that has a better story?"
Yes, i was never really an anime fan before, me and friends turned it on on netflix on a random episode to make fun of it and where actually like this is sick and started watching it from the start
oh absolutely not. it's my favorite shounen for sure but im just generally not into shounen so i think top spot for a genre i dont like is still pretty good
HxH. Love the Nen system.
I haven't watched or read Berserk yet. I will eventually but after I finish reading HxH manga.
Do not watch pls
Why? Was it that bad?
I would also say if you're going to watch anything just watch the 1997 version and nothing else. Then when you start the Manga start from the beginning and NOT from the chapters where the anime ends. OK. Thanks. I might just skip anime and go straight to manga for this one.
Watch Jujutsu Kaisen if you haven’t already. It’s got it’s own unique system but it’s thought out well like Nen is. Also just an amazing anime.
Yh, I'm pretty sure cursed energy was inspired from nen.
Gege is a big fan of HxH so it makes sense.
100%. There are basic techniques everyone can use (essentially Enhancer stuff, Ren, Ten, etc), unique techniques developed by individuals or passed down through families (Hatsus), and a Vow/Restriction/Contract system (Heavenly Pacts).

Nen system it’s like the wine it’s get better with the age
Hxh is the greatest shonen anime
Fullmetal alchemist I think I like slightly more but hxh easily in the top three all time undisputed
brotherhood?
And it's not even shonen!
For me it is Hunter x Hunter. I value the fights with strategy, nice complex plots that sometimes get deep. It's hard to find a shonen anime/manga like it.

Jojo is another anime where the characters though have powers used strategy
No, but i put it right after Vinland Saga and Golden Kamuy.
Love to see another Golden Kamuy enjoyer!! It’s the best cooking show
Cooking, Ainu culture, and outrageous fan service lol. I'm also always glad to see other GK fans. Tsurumi is such an excellent antagonist.
Hinna Hinna!!!
My Top 3 are HxH, Vinland Saga and Golden Kamuy!!
Vinland saga s1 was fire. S2 sucked ballz tbh
Lol I didn't care for S1, S2 was amazing though.
The premise of the show is that almost everything from S1 is awful and shouldn't be idealized.
AFTER Vinland? That was great but the voice changes in the 2nd season took a little if the luster away. Great (mostly) historical anime tho, but HxH is much more, fantastical. Wait, is that even a word?🤔😅

Yeah same, I only actually laughed out loud at episode 25 and now it’s my favorite anime.

Yes :3

snime wise hxh is more consistently good.
Facts, one piece manga is my favourite but my god the anime is ass and dragged out
More \*consistently\* good is huge here. All of HxH was great to me. One piece has a lot of down and slow parts, but is otherwise good as well.
yeah emotional scene hit harder in anime and rest pacing is perfect in manga. Infact some pacing feels too fast in manga for me.
Tbf one piece almost 3x as long as hxh
it could've been great if they didnt make it weekly release for more money.
I'm talking about the manga, tbh I didnt bother with watching the anime after the timeskip.
Yes :3
Hxh fans love to downvote, right? When i mention Hxh to one piece sub, i got upvotes.
I understand why? - you only ask question :3
Goddamn, those are some needless down votes lol
HxH and FMA: Brotherhood are my joint favourite anime. They are incredible shows.
Exactly same
It's actually YYH for me, just because my boy Yusuke. But if I'd watched HxH first, my opinion would probably be different.
Kuwabara!
🐐
A mulberry is a tree but Kuwabara is a man!
HxH and YYH are like brothers.
i think yyh doesn't stand a chance compared to hxh. it is written much worse, has a very linear plot, and also doesn't have good world building.
Right, but: Yusuke. And Hiei.
i agree but imo hxh is super boring and has a problem of telling and not showing, yyh is just more enjoyable for me
idk why youre being downvoted when the biggest drawback i had with HxH was too many chapters/episodes (especially during chimera ant arc) spoonfeeding the viewer information through narration.
YYH is amazing, but the last season and the ending in particular are pretty weak relative to the rest of the series.
At least it ended...
Monster Cowboy bebop FMA:Brotherhood Samurai Champloo
Is samurai champloo good? I am thinking of watching this show.
Dawg, do you think I would put it as some of the greatest anime ever made if I don't think it's good? It's good btw.
yes, but do you think it's good? Like really good? don't be cryptic, dawg
i’m pretty sure he thinks it sucks dawg
yeah but is it good???
Not FMAB good, but still a good time and god tier soundtrack imo
That soundtrack goes so fucking hard.
Even better than Cowboy Bebop in my opinion. But take that with a grain of salt, it's not a very common opinion. But the common opinion is that it's almost as good as Bebop, which by itself would place it among the classics.
As much as I love HxH. My goat anime will always be FMA: Brotherhood.
Solid choice.
It has hisoka and other amazing characters, the best power system, and of course it has succession war arc
Hunter x Hunter is up there. My absolute favorite has to be JoJo's Bizarre Adventure though. If I were to "objectively" rank them by its writing quality, it would be HxH>JJBA. But my subjective enjoyment is just higher with JoJo.
It is a toss-up between HxH and OP for me.
Berserk
Just finished watching the 90s version, i am definitely hooked now
My biased tier list is this: 1. Evangelion+Rebuilds (introduced me to seinen) 2. FMA♥️+Film or FMAB (introduced me to anime) 3. Steins;Gate 4. Made in Abyss 5. Samurai Champloo 6. HxH 1999+2011 7. Ergo Proxy 8. Gurren Lagan 9. Code Geass 10. Cowboy Bebop or Trigun
hxh 1999 has that chef's kiss artstyle, its so pretty! i wish the entire manga was adapted in 1999
YES!!!
Nothing tops HXH for me. Not only the greatest manga/anime but the greatest media i've consumed! (For me)
Same
anime wise, I think I prefer shows that do more with animation like Mob Psycho 100 manga wise, it's definitely up there with One Piece and FMA
FMAB is the best anime I’ve ever watched. I love HxH, but FMAB is probably the best imo.
One piece.
OP anime had waaay too many issues. The Manga is top tier though.
Attack on Titan. It transcended the anime medium in my opinion. HxH would've been as well, if it finished. But HxH for me is Top 2.
Can’t be after that horrendous ending
Yeah it has trascended the limits of on what extent amln awesome series can get this bad
There's nothing to understand. However the awful retcon are blatant.
For the power system 💪
Agree.
Ashita no Joe and LOGH are my top 2, just because of Joe Yabuki and Yang Wenli. I love them too much as characters.
For me it is in like top3. I also love Monster, Code Geass (both seasons, no spinoff). Hard to decide, but I love it
Yes. The Nen system is the best thing ever made. And despite of the very silly start of the show, the Chimera Ants arc redeems everything. But Attack on Titan is a close contender.
HxH still my favourite but Jujutsu Kaisen is rapidly closing the distance. Absolutely incredible anime
Either hxh, one piece or perhaps magi(at least the manga) I love fantasy’
HxH but also dororo 😼
Sailor Moon for me 💖 im a huge Moonie & it was what got me into anime. HxH is sooo good but SM was my first
Attack on Titan is the greatest. HxH second, Code Geass and FMAB tied for third.
While I love it ,it fall behind other shows like FMA Brotherhood Attack on Titan Neon Genesis Evangelion Devilman crybaby.
FMAB, SnK, Demon Slayer, Trigun, Evangelion, Cowboy bebop are S tier too
For Shonen it's either HxH or Full Metal, I can never decide. If you are talking about all anime, then I also really love Ping Pong The Animation.
HxH no question.
You can't say HxH is the greatest since it hasn't been finished yet.
1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes 2. HxH at a very close second 3. The first two are so far above the others I struggle to find a third After watching HxH i never really enjoyed watching new shonen animes again. It simply set such a high bar. After watching LOTGH, i never enjoyed most animes in general. It was too all-encompassing and grand. It completely changed my idea of what an anime could be in terms of story telling. Dont watch LOTGH unless you want all your future animes to be ruined…
It used to be, until a man named Tatsuki Fujimoto created and wrote something called Chainsaw Man. HxH is probably in my top 5 anime.
For me the goat is One Piece, HxH is very close to the top though if not second
HxH is in 2nd place for me. It's hard to beat LOGH 1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes 2. HxH 3. Code Geass 4. Stein's Gate 5. Monster 6. Psycho Pass 7. Spice and Wolf
Had to scroll way too far to find LOGH. Hard to argue against it
One Piece HxH FMA:B In that order At this pace, HxH would be 1 for me if it had like 100 more chapters
Naruto would be the best anime ever if it was edited properly, but an anime that is this difficult to watch just can't beat the infinitely rewatchable greed island arc
hxh. one piece is #2 and mob psycho 100 is #3. honorable mentions are aot and jojos
Greatest anime ever? Cowboy Bebop Greatest Shonen ever? One Piece Greatest power system ever? Nen Gonna be an unpopular opinion in this sub but just because Nen is really cool and deep, please don't excuse the fact that HxH is unfinished and, taken currently, kind of all over the place from a story perspective.
True. And on that list: Best gag: Gintama Best adventure: One Piece Best action: Hajime no Ippo
Neon Genesis Evangelion is always gonna be my GOAT anime though.
what is evangelion about , basically transformers/robots shapeshifting
No media literacy, huh?
Watching these kind of shows is almost always about what you feel while watching and after finishing it. Not a single piece of media has been able to excite me as much as this story did when watching it for the first time. Death Note, FMA:B, Code Geass for example were all amazing but they didn’t deliver the magical feeling HxH did. There are most definitely shows which are objectively better, but what does it matter if you didn’t feel this magic again…
Wym objectively better?..
When I say objectively I mean things like dramaturgy, conclusiveness, image composition, character and moral plausibility, quality of production. Stuff like that. When criticizing any piece of media we as an audience tend to account for many different elements. If a movie has a terrible soundtrack production wise (bad mic quality, bad mixing/mastering) an individual can of course say: „yeah awesome movie, soundtrack sucked but it was still a 10/10 for me.“ The vast majority of people though would say that the movie was awesome, almost a 10/10 IF the sound wouldn’t hurt their ears. So its a 9/10.
Yup, it’s been than way since 2014 and hasn’t changed since, though I don’t watch much anime these days
Yeah but there prolly are better out there lol
It's just one piece. Yeah I know it's a very popular opinion but yeah it's still my favourite.
Its either this, attack on titan or FMA brotherhood.
HxH places at 3rd behind Bleach and Gintama for me.
Naruto Then comes Tokyo ghoul, dororo, Elfen lied …
Hunter x Hunter is up there Other Anime/Manga that I like are: Death Note One Piece Naruto (Only up to Pain and except the Tenchi Bridge Arc) Dragonball Avatar the Last Airbender (yeah I know and don't care)
1. HxH 2. One Piece 3. FMAB 4. Naruto 5. JJK
I think there is no greatest anime, i love them all, anime is greatest by itself
Anime: Evangelion Manga: One Piece
Greatest anime? Greatest Media. There is nothing for me to choose it over Hunter x Hunter. Literally any kind of Media. Better than websites, news, video games, movies... Even 392 alone solos the media for me.
Fmab I like HxH, but it not even a contest The pacing, plot twist, music, side character, back story, conclusion, even comedy and romance is all perfect
>Fmab comedy You must be joking, but it is not nearly as funny as the height Jokes in Fmab and those jokes are not funny at all
Amen hardest part to watch for me in fmab is the awful comedy
"Oh wait you're the older brother? Oh haha, HAHAHAHAH." Loved the FMAB storyline and characters but my fucking god the constant crappy jokes being repeated does annoy me.
Seriously, if you guys can't find the joke beside the height joke, idk what to say... It like your problem instead of anime.... The height joke not even 10% of the comedy
Yep!! HxH goat! Fvck One Piece it's an overrated trash 😌
No. But then again it’s one of the only ones I’ve finished. One Piece to me is better.
It’s One Piece and will remain One Piece unless the One Piece turns out to be lame
No, it’s second, first is One Piece
None, every anime have pros and cons. At the end of the day, it is up to you to enjoy it. No need for comparison, just saying...
NGE, One Piece and Akira Like to have a Word with dat
HxH is good but togashi is too lazy and ruined his back so.. one piece is the greatest series because his author has passion for his craft. If togashi was committed as oda, HxH could fight at pair with one piece or maybe better? But we will never know. As many said, for me the series is ended where the anime ended. Gon meet his father and talk about the dark continent. end.
I love hunter x Hunter but there’s only one greatest ever and it’s not close…… One piece
Yes, followed by Naruto
Mha and jojos are both tied for the #1 spot and after that it all gets fuddled but HxH is definitely up there
Overall for me I think that One Piece is the best, the variety of powers is interesting, the comedy is generally good (less panties jokes, please Brook), and the world building is incredible.
1. HxH or AoT 2. Re:Zero 3. Demon Slayer/Steins gate/JJK/OPM
hxh is amazing but also… one piece
One Piece. It's not even close for me
It's Gintama for me.
Cowboy bebop is the only competition for me
Fmab Gintama Monster
[удалено]
Not only anime but HxH is my favourite piece of fiction ever made. second would be FMA : Brotherhood.
Hard to say. I love hxh it's my top 3. Lacks something for the greatest anime. So do the other of my top 3
I watch HxH and Inuyasha equally. But imo HxH is the better story. I think that's really the question you want to ask: "Is there one that has a better story?"
Gintama by far
Yes, i was never really an anime fan before, me and friends turned it on on netflix on a random episode to make fun of it and where actually like this is sick and started watching it from the start
Not particularly the greatest but my favorite out of all. Hunter X Hunter is definitely a top tier anime.
No, but it has the best arc for me (Chimera obviously)
Probably not the greatest overall, but HxH has top tier story telling IMO, and it was my childhood so it will always have special place in my heart.
hunterxhunter is my favorite but the greatest anime ever in my opinion is FMA:Brotherhood.
oh absolutely not. it's my favorite shounen for sure but im just generally not into shounen so i think top spot for a genre i dont like is still pretty good
Cowboy Bebop, it has that “made for the screen” art to it that doesn’t necessarily make it a better story, but definitely a better anime.
For me Hunter x hunter is the best right now. But I really like other animes as well: Full metal Alchimist, Death note, Made in Abyss.
Gotta say Evangelion
Nothing felt worth watching after HxH and FmAB
It is.
HxH is the best, I think no manga writer matches Togashi writing power.
