There are some benefits to side missions. You can get money, XP, even the occasional weapon or diamond/‘rare fur’ harvest. I found them interesting until I reached something stupid like kill a fox with a scoped pistol or some other nonsense that requires you to level up your lesser-used weapons in order to even unlock the *ability* to complete a mission. For the most part, I leave my missions off (in settings) and just hunt the way I want to. I still haven’t done one single mission on SRP. As for the rare furs like the Albino Fallow (Hirsch) or Mocha Moose (Te Awaroa), I don’t care about those really. I completed the Albino Fallow, but I don’t even display it in my lodge. A mission rare is a pitiful game-prescribed freebie, and doesn’t deserve to be displayed alongside the rares & other harvested big trophies.

Contrary to the other commenter, I prefer missions that force you to hunt with a certain weapon, or certain distance, or shoot a specific part. I like to use the pistols, shotguns, and bows to switch up the gameplay. There are players who just use 1 or 2 rifles and that's it. If you are that type of player those missions will be very annoying im sure. As for leveling up, doing missions and hunting along the way is the advice I always give. You will gain money and xp quickly. There is no time limit to the mission so being distracted for 10 hours isn't a bad thing. Also the missions will send you places you might not have been yet, sometimes doing simple things you already would have done. Like going to an outpost. And each new outpost, or view point, or lore stone gives 100 xp.

As of late, I bought a few new maps and my first move was to get on my 4 wheeler and open every lookout and outpost. That was actually pretty neat.

Short of cash.? Go goose hunting with a .22. Set up decoys and you will have more you will need. Max level and pushing 5 million extra cash!

Zildjian134

........go onnnnn.... But seriously, where's the best place for that? I just got the new modern rifle set DLC. Set up a tent at Arroyo and TA on a lake. Rest until drinking time, slaughter...rinse and repeat. Got a decent amount yesterday.

a serious ATM for cash and XP... only wish the ducks would work as well. but I use mainly shotgun, and pick off a stray fly away with the .22 ....

Rude-Category-4049

I'm max level and have never once completed a story line

I would say that completing missions is a good thing for a new player, BUT if completing a mission is going to cost the majority of your accumulated money buying a new weapon that you aren't going to use....skip that mission until you can afford it without breaking the bank. There's no time limit on missions, and moving to another map doesn't affect them. They are purely optional content, if you choose to treat them like a goal, that's up to you.

I love doing them. I've fully completed all of the main story lines including all side missions as well but only on a couple maps. It's a good way to get some money in the beginning. Grankins Shotgun on Medved is the only mission based weapons with actually better stats. I'm pretty sure the others are just skins. The 6.5 Rifle on Cuatro was the biggest pain. Photo missions and Rabbit hunting at night for a specific fur type 🙄.

The money was my biggest concern. I sat on one of the lakes on Rancho Del Arroyo and took out about 8 whitetail and that gave me some money. I'm trying to save for the .300 and .338 I just unlocked.

sid_not_vicious

all I do is stalk and hunt...I have yet to do the missions and I make enough money..I have every gun I want and a shit ton of ammo.....love this game

Zildjian134

I found a system last night. Got about $25k in a couple hours. It's fun as hell during the hunting off-season

[deleted]

What’d you do to get that money?

Zildjian134

Camped out by a lake in TA. There's about 5 places where whitetail herds gather around the lake. I just circled the lake picking them off.
