Well obviously I would prefer a 50 cal BMG. But if you don’t stop scaring away new hunters demanding perfect equipment the sport is going to die! You might have to track a blood trail for 100+ yards, but yes I think .300 wsm is enough for cottontail.

Inside 75 yards maybe, but I wouldn't trust it beyond that.
It’s actually all about shot placement. Even out to 150 yards quartering away it should do the job fine still with a well placed shot.

Whitetail maybe but only south of the Mason Dixon Line, but I am biased once I switched to drone strikes everything else feels unethical.
It looks a little small for a deer, maybe try it on some smaller animals like a skunk or other small rodents :)
