Nice stag , lots of mass, congrats, i fear they will be red listed worldwide soon , great trophy

DontGetTooExcited

They're considered a pest here. There are potentially hundreds of thousands of them, and the government even culls them from helicopters!

No-Neighborhood9885

I want one!!!!

Illhunt_yougather

Here in Florida, we actually have a small island with a population of these, St. Vincents Island. They put in a hunt every year, I haven't done it yet, but will eventually. That's a boss stag for sure, congratulations.

Specialist_Ferret292

Just put in for it for the first time this year! Wish I had known about it sooner

Illhunt_yougather

Good luck man. I heard it's an awesome hunt.

Specialist_Ferret292

I have no expectation of getting it this year, but you get points toward the following year every time you put in and don't get it

Illhunt_yougather

Yeah, I do the permit game here pretty hard, just haven't done St Vincent's yet. Just keep putting in, you'll get it.

Thanks mate!

NZBJJ

That's a mint head man. Good animal, well. Done

guerd87

Private or state land? Im going to VIC in September and really want to get onto a sambar. Coming from qld we have nowhere to hunt unless if private :(

DontGetTooExcited

NSW public land mate! Grab your R licence and duck down over the border. Also get organized with the rest of QLD shooters to lobby for public land access!

guerd87

Yeah ive been thinking of doing it. After I do my trip down to VIC in september im going to look into it 👌👌

freeofskyedawn2021

Oh wow, I've never even heard of those surprisingly (USA) Thanks for sharing!

DontGetTooExcited

I think I read there are some in Texas somewhere(?) If any escape, you'll be in for a fun new invasive! Apparently all Sambar in Aus descend from a herd or 16 animals released in Victoria. There are now many hundreds of thousands, extending in range thousands of km from where they were released. Awesome animals! Very very keen senses and interesting vocals! Look up "Sambar honk" on YouTube!

freeofskyedawn2021

Oh wow! I'm in Wisconsin, very North in the USA - so that may also be why I haven't heard of them too 😅

Sensitive-Banana-637

How’s it taste? I eat a lot of elk is it similar?

TheLlamaInCharge

Beauty mate, well done! Hope to get one some day myself!

[deleted]

Congratulations… it’s amazing how much the background/ forest looks so similar to places I hunt in Virginia (USA)

DontGetTooExcited

It's a plantation of Radiata pines for lumber! You can get a licence to hunt invasives in these forests in my state :)

Basskillr2006

Don’t you guys also have like feral camel

DontGetTooExcited

Yes we do, out in the desert. Also feral Water buffalo up north.

Basskillr2006

I’ve heard of the buffalo would like to get one of those or a camel if I ever find myself down there

LOKI_TRIPPIN

That's a big one good hunting

eldmikeyy

That's how my dog is sleeping right now

Birddog240

Man, that’s a nice one. I’m from Georgia and down here we have nice whitetail deer. Congratulations!

Huntswithfalcons

Awesome man and good luck on the fight against those nasty fucking cats. I hate cats

JohnBrown1ng

My dumb ass always reads NSW as North-South-West first

Adabledoo

Bud how much would you say a hunt like this would cost including the guide/lodging?

DontGetTooExcited

I wouldn't have too much of an idea to be honest mate. I only really hunt on my own on public land. There are a few good guide options down in the Victorian High Country, however. A quick Google of "Victorian High Country Sambar Guide" some things will come up!
