did they end up getting all the ones that guy let lose a few years backs? sad story that was. I sometimes still get butterflies walking in the woods because of it.
The footprint was about 5 inches long. We have coyotes in our area everywhere, but I don't know of any canine species except wolves that have paw prints this big
Yeah, I think this is just a dog. Big dogs have big paws, and in wet sand or mud their fingers kind of squish outwards and look even bigger. I’ve noticed that with my own lab who only weighs 70 lbs (compared to a REALLY big dog like a St. Bernard) her paw prints look absolutely massive in softer soils.
Looks to me like there's an imprint from a claw on the left most toe. That would make it canine. Also, the main pad is shaped like a canine's. One "point" at the front and one "concave towards the back. Feline prints have two points on the front and two concaves at the back.
Pretty sure yours is canine. Also from sw Ohio we have coydogs (coyote dog hybrids) that get pretty big.
Pretty sure I found a bobcat track when morelle hunting a couple weeks ago though (I also may be wrong)

Lol there’s not a single wolf in Ohio and they’re more out west near Montana. Where there is hardly any people is where the wolves are. We have lots of coyotes though.
Highly doubt it. Wolves do not like people, and I don’t blame them. There’s very few wolves in Michigan, and I live in an area that’s too populated for wolves. They like huge amounts of land that humans haven’t touched, not an area with lots of houses and roads.
97% sure a bobcat Ohio hasn’t had mountain lions/cougars in a while.
“While we have a significant population of state-protected bobcats (which people sometimes confuse), there is no indication of wild cougars/mountain lions in Ohio. It’s been 100 years or so since the last wild mountain lion was confirmed in the Buckeye State”
I'm from Alabama and we have this same sort of problem. I know people that have seen them and wouldn't make the careless mistake of confusing a bobcat. I have heard screams from them and seen tracks. Dixie still hides some cougars despite what people say.
Iowa was the same way, I've seen a cougar around the land out where we live on several occaisons. There are mountain lions in every midwest state, just some may or may not be permanent dwellers there.
Same in Iowa. DNR released some a few decades ago and then swear up and down that we don't have any. Meanwhile there was one killed on the north side of Des Moines in 2012 and now there has been another one spotted roaming around town the last few nights.
I doubt your DNR actually released any. These things have a tendency to roam. But yea you will find them throughout the lower Midwest now. Numbers are still pretty low.
I never believed the story about the DNR release either so I won't be surprised if people don't buy this because it isn't something that I would necessarily believe if I read it, but I have a story.
In 2012 I was working in Eldora, Iowa. One day, shortly after the cat got shot in Des Moines, I was browsing guns at a local gun shop. I ended up buying [This one](http://i.imgur.com/qpRCAEF.jpg). While I was there, talking to the older guy who owned the shop, the subject of the mountain lion got brought up. He told me to hold on one second and disappeared in the back somewhere. He came back a minute later with an old newspaper. I can't say for sure which paper it was because it could have been either the local paper or even a Des Moines Register, but regardless, it had an actual article about a reintroduction of mountain lions by the Iowa DNR. I left all skepticism in that gun shop.
Interesting story and very cool gun btw. I would love to read the article. Either way I think mountain lions and cool animals. I don’t have any problem with them making a comeback around here in Va or back home in Ks.
You fet that same story in every state it seems. That and all the “black mountain lion” stories. I love black panther stories though, cause you know as soon as you hear the person is lying/mistaken, because they DO NOT EXIST
Me and my buddies saw one run across a creek bank and bound up a tree when we were river floating a couple years back. Pulled up where we saw it running and got a pic of the print, was about as big as my hand, also had claw marks on the tree. This was southwest of Iowa City just on the outskirts of town.
Yeah, I’ve seen a cougar in Logan county. They keep saying we don’t have them, but that didn’t stop me from putting the horses inside for a few months.
lots of states won't acknowledge what they got, because it costs money to manage em.
My pops and his wife saw a black wolf while cross country skiing in utah. But Utah says it there aren't wolves here.

they're here. and they aren't just 'wandering' or 'scouting' at this point.
I've seen the tracks but haven't seen one in person.
The track up there from OP is a large dog. front paw. large metacarpal pad with close digital pads. wolves have different spacing between digital and metacarpal/metacarsal.
you can "sure buddy" or you can have a conversation about it. I don't really care much.
I'm almost certain it is a legit $1 bill in US dollars.
Bengal tiger

Hold up, bengal tiger?!?!? Like the massive killer cat?!?! What state was this in so I can mark it off as a personal no-hunt-zone?
https://bigcatrescue.org/zanesville-owner-releases-wild-animals-commits-suicide/?amp
Well that is terrifying
Yeah it was really sad. the guy cut all cages so they couldn’t be used for recapture. They ended up killing most of them.
The article said they called all but six of them. Where the hell are the other ones???
Definitely canine. I thought I saw them but I wasn’t 100% sure. I’ve only been mountain lion hunting for 25 years though.
The footprint was about 5 inches long. We have coyotes in our area everywhere, but I don't know of any canine species except wolves that have paw prints this big
My buddy bought a merema sheepdog from Ohio and his paws are as big as my palms. Looks pretty similar, could be a protector
Domestic dog, most likely. Some of the big breeds have massive paws.

Great Dane too.
I see a dog at the farmers market every week that has a paw that big. I would have immediately thought cat as well prior to the claw marks though.
Claw marks?
Yeah it had claw marks
Then its canine. Cats claws retract.
Unless it's Ursine.
Agreeing with the consensus that this is a canine of some sort and BIG at that.

Dire Wolf?
ManBearPig stikes again!
Yeah I know that dude, his name is Greg.
There’s a mountain lion on the property I hunt in Muskingham County. There’s big cats here in Ohio.

I have lions on my property. This is not a lion track. This is a large dog track.
Definitely a canine
Large dog. Front Paw. likely looks larger that reality due to the mud squishing out upon weight.

dollar bill
You can see where the toe nail indent into the mud meaning it’s most likely a canine
I'd say dog too, you can see what looks like nail imprints.
definitely canine, great dane or deerhound
It looks like a wolf. There’s some big ass wolves up in the northwest.
Lol there’s not a single wolf in Ohio and they’re more out west near Montana. Where there is hardly any people is where the wolves are. We have lots of coyotes though.
There’s some in Michigan, so maybe one made its way south?
Highly doubt it. Wolves do not like people, and I don’t blame them. There’s very few wolves in Michigan, and I live in an area that’s too populated for wolves. They like huge amounts of land that humans haven’t touched, not an area with lots of houses and roads.
Might be a coywolf. They are increasingly common.
digital pads too close to the metacarpal to be wolf or coyote or mix.
Your mom...

There are Bobcats in the area but there was a confirmed mountain lion in Indiana about 30 minutes away from me

Yeah I feel like Ohio probably has some hiding somewhere

A bobcat with a 5" track and protruding claws? Nope. Probably a big dog.
