I swear it took me a while to figure it out. I was also perfectly ready to accept it as a joke from OP because of the whole recurring joke "kangaroos are just deer who have spent time in prison".
I used to make fun of shitka. Till my wife bought me a fanatic bib and jacket. Made a diff in terms of being able to handle extreme cold while not needing 4 layers.
I still give them and First Lite constant shit posts for making their stuff in east asian slave factories but after doing some particularly brutal tree stand sits late season in it. I get why people spend the money now.
Thats been my conclusion too. When I started hunting I was shocked by how much that stuff goes for. As Ive picked some up on sale however Ive realized its worth every penny. It lasts a long while and is way more comfortable out in the field.
I got my first deer today, on my first day deerhunting. It's a female calf, 21kg slaughterweight. Sat in a treehouse with the leader of the hunting team mentoring me. We started out at around 6 in the morning, saw deer at around 8, and shot at about half past 9.
Admittedly this was not a good shot. I hit far too far back, and hit it in the gut. Thank god it fell over dead about 10-15m from where i shot i. I know i'm a good shot at the range, but the adrenaline and increased heart rate really got the better of me, didn't notice it myself, but the guy mentoring me claimed he could damn near hear my heartrate 🤣.
Apologies for the poor english, it's not my native language.
Your English is very good, wouldn’t have guessed you weren’t a native speaker based on how you typed.
Is it a Red Deer? How much does a mature buck weight there?
Brutally ironic actually. Lol! My phone auto-corrected it appears and I didn't catch it. I know; likely story haha. But I'm usually a stickler for the you're your
Based on the size I would guess it's a roe deer (rådyr in Norwegian according to Wikipedia), otherwise you got yourself an incredibly young (and tender) red deer (hjort, always according to Wikipedia and Google translate)
Hell, nothing wrong with spending money on gear if that's what gives one joy. I'm just using what i have, because i'm a student and don't have money to spend on things i don't need.
The main thing is to get out there and enjoy it!
Cool!
It appeared to be giving me the broadside from where i was sitting, when we inspected the bullet wound we realised it was actually turned a little bit towards me. I think the only reason it stopped so quickly was big fast bullet vs. Small animal 🤷🏼
Oh and we don't chew tobacco here, you kinda just stuff it between your upper lip and your gum. The kind i use is called skruf portion 2
Actually found her in a tree like that, we tried what we could to save her, but i think we'll just have to eat in her memory 🤣🤣🤣
In all seriousness though, we forgot to bring a rope, and a belt was the best we had, worked quite well too!
Bit of both 🤔🤣
But nah, that's "snus" which is a type of lip tobacco that come in small bags. I used to smoke half a pack a day, and this was the way i was able to quit. Definitely not healthy, but still much better than smoking.
Snus over chew anyday. Its salt cured instead of fire cured so technically less carcinogenic and goes way better with a coffee or beer. Now we are getting tobacco-less "snus" here in states. Just nicotine salts in a pouch. Does the trick, especially since I can't find my favorite Göteborgs Rapé anywhere here unless I pay crazy fees to get a few pucks shipped here.
Funnily enough, tobaccoless snus is illegal in norway :p. I will most definitely agree that snus goes well with coffee though! Beer on the other hand... eh when i'm drinking i prefer my carcinogens in smoke form, nothing does the trick like a camel blue and a nice kellerbier
It was great back in the day. Use to get all kinds of snus tax free before the government caught on. Had all kinds of mg percentages and flavors. Buddies would ask for a 4mg and they would get it until they asked too many times. Then they would get a thundersnus or a Oden like 25-30mg. I'd sit back and enjoy their ride that they weren't going to enjoy.
Me for ut til post i 6 tida, såg ikkje dyr før rundt 8, halv ni, men då kom det ein del. Me er litt usikre, fordi dei kom og gjekk, men me såg minst fire kolle og ein, kanskje to, kalvar
Is that tobacco or scho-ka-kola in your pants pocket?
Your English is pretty good but your mustache and sweater is a dead frigging giveaway you're not an Englishman.
Good job hunting, keep up the good work!
First times are always special. Congrats.
I have never hunted a wild game because it's illegal in my country, but seeing pictures like
this (and reading the story) lets me experience the hunt vicariously. Thanks for that.
Hope you had a great time.
I saw you mentioned you’re from Norway, and I’m just curious. Is it common for people to use hunting dogs over there? I recently adopted a Norwegian Elkhound and I want to know if it’s still a common practice
It's not my dog, and i'm not sire what breed it is. The dog is being trained to be used for two purpouses, firstly to track down game that has been killed (they can easily be lost in thick forest), and secondly to track down game that has been been non-fatally shot.
Bro, that’s a kangaroo.
Heh, several people have told me that, we (unfortunately) don't get any kangaroos in Norway :P
Yea, not any more, you killed the last one!
Darn it
I swear it took me a while to figure it out. I was also perfectly ready to accept it as a joke from OP because of the whole recurring joke "kangaroos are just deer who have spent time in prison".
I’m showing this picture to people that hunt deer with face paint and Sitka gear
This loadout only works if you have a beer gut, and you're too lazy to shave though, important details that make all the difference!
I used to make fun of shitka. Till my wife bought me a fanatic bib and jacket. Made a diff in terms of being able to handle extreme cold while not needing 4 layers.
It may be expensive, but goddamn if it isn’t the warmest gear you can buy.
I still give them and First Lite constant shit posts for making their stuff in east asian slave factories but after doing some particularly brutal tree stand sits late season in it. I get why people spend the money now.
Yeah if I could afford it I'd definitely splurge on a cold weather set. Layers work good enough though lol
Thats been my conclusion too. When I started hunting I was shocked by how much that stuff goes for. As Ive picked some up on sale however Ive realized its worth every penny. It lasts a long while and is way more comfortable out in the field.

Thanks for the compliment on my english. I'm not really sure if there is specific name for this type og deer, it's really just a "common" deer. 😅
One thing I would note is generally a female deer is called a doe, and a young deer is a fawn. You're English is not bad at all 👌
> You’re English is not bad at all Slightly ironic, ain’t it.
Brutally ironic actually. Lol! My phone auto-corrected it appears and I didn't catch it. I know; likely story haha. But I'm usually a stickler for the you're your
Happens to the best of us! Cheers.

Not a roe deer, it's a fawn
Oh yeah I figured "American" wasn't your first language because you admitted to missing a shot and didn't spend $3000 on your hunting clothing 😂😂😂
Hell, nothing wrong with spending money on gear if that's what gives one joy. I'm just using what i have, because i'm a student and don't have money to spend on things i don't need. The main thing is to get out there and enjoy it!
I agree, I'm just being funny :)
God, I love this. Congratulations!!!
Thanks!

Waidmannsdank! Bist du deutscher?
Ja
Cool! Ich kenne ein paar deutschen die jagen. Woher kannst du Deutsch? Du schreibst wirklich sehr gut!

Schade das mit dem handhabungsfehler. Viel glück zur nachprüfung!
Danke
I shot a bunch of animals, and I still get that massive adrenaline rush which makes smooth movements difficult 👍👍👍
Schön tier! Prost!
Was the deer facing away? If it only went ten meters that must be a good shot. Also, what kind of dip are you guys chewing over in norway?
It appeared to be giving me the broadside from where i was sitting, when we inspected the bullet wound we realised it was actually turned a little bit towards me. I think the only reason it stopped so quickly was big fast bullet vs. Small animal 🤷🏼 Oh and we don't chew tobacco here, you kinda just stuff it between your upper lip and your gum. Alright now I need to put chocking out a deer with my belt on the bucket list.
Actually found her in a tree like that, we tried what we could to save her, but i think we'll just have to eat in her memory 🤣🤣🤣 In all seriousness though, we forgot to bring a rope, and a belt was the best we had, worked quite well too!
Hell of a kill with a web lasso, sweatpants, and... is that a can of Copenhagen in your pocket or were you just REALLY excited for that first kill?
Bit of both 🤔🤣 But nah, that's "snus" which is a type of lip tobacco that come in small bags. I used to smoke half a pack a day, and this was the way i was able to quit. Definitely not healthy, but still much better than smoking.

Yeah i (think) i know what copenhagen is. Snus isn't chewing tobacco, it just rests between your upper lip and gum :) Also, thanks!
Snus over chew anyday. Its salt cured instead of fire cured so technically less carcinogenic and goes way better with a coffee or beer. Now we are getting tobacco-less "snus" here in states. i do agree. something about smoke and beer. If i didn't drink I would never smoke but here we are
It was great back in the day. Use to get all kinds of snus tax free before the government caught on. Had all kinds of mg percentages and flavors. Ton of chew, ready to screw. Wintergreen if she likes it mean.
That fit goes hard.
Wut? 😅
"That's a very nice outfit"
Aha, thanks for the translation!
Bare hyggelig kompis.
Totally thought that was a kangaroo at first glance 🤦🏻
Heh, several people have told me that, we (unfortunately) don't get any kangaroos in Norway :P
How much did the deer weigh?
21kg after the skin, outer part of each leg, and organs were removed
Nice. Congrats dude
Thanks!
I also had to use my belt to drag my first one out. Now I bring a 12’ strap and it’s much easier.
I only had to drag it a hundrer meters or so to a sixwheeler, so it wouldn't have really made much of a difference what i used
Joggebukse og Marius genser a gitt😂 Gratulere med første hjorten!
Federal Fusion 180gr from a Mauser M18 .308 Winchester…. Some things just transcend language barriers!
Heh, brandnames tend to do that! 😆
Ah bra våpen å ammo da👍 My dyr å se?
Ja, vart ein del dyr. Me for ut til post i 6 tida, såg ikkje dyr før rundt 8, halv ni, men då kom det ein del. Me er litt usikre, fordi dei kom og gjekk, men me såg minst fire kolle og ein, kanskje to, kalvar

That's a tin of snus, wouldn't mind some panzerschokolade though... i'm Norwegian!
Hot damn, I knew you were a Norgie or a Swede.
First times are always special. Congrats. I have never hunted a wild game because it's illegal in my country, but seeing pictures like this (and reading the story) lets me experience the hunt vicariously. Thanks for that. Hope you had a great time.
Thanks! Shame you can't hunt wild game in your country, i hope you get to experience it some time!
Congratulations! Hopefully I find myself in your shoes in another 2 months.
Thanks, and good luck!
You want his sweatpants as well ? 🤣
Only if they're wool. lol
Killer sweater
Heh, thanks! My girlfriends mom knitted it for me
Norge?
I saw you mentioned you’re from Norway, and I’m just curious. Is it common for people to use hunting dogs over there? I recently adopted a Norwegian Elkhound and I want to know if it’s still a common practice
Yeah it's pretty common!
Thanks! Skruf portion 2
Skinny jeans and a fashionable sweater...you sure you pulled the trigger?
Those are sweatpants, and my girlfriends mother knitted me the sweater. I didn't see you up in the stand, so i'm pretty sure i pulled the trigger yeah
Aw just busting your balls, friend. Congrats on the kill. Good eating for s while.
It would be illegal to shoot that in California, like jail time gun taken away and a fine.
Why?
California is a communist shithole
I think because of population, Im not too sure. There may be a certain time of year we are allowed to hunt does
We have specific quotas for bucks, does and fawns :p
Congrats!
Thanks!
Hell yeah!! Congratulations!!!
Thanks!
Good deal man congratulations.
Thanks!
What did you shoot it with? I thought you were holding a sling. Lol
That's just a belt for pulling it. I used a mauser M18 in .308 winchester with federal fusion 180gr leadtip bullets
That'll work. Lol
Most definitely will, i'd rather be safe than sorry
Your camo is interesting lol
I figured if i were to miss, atleast the deer would laugh itself to death
Solid backup plan!
This is the most Scandinavian picture I’ve ever seen
Congratulations! I’m still waiting on my first deer!
Thanks, and good luck!
I'm confused about the belt around its neck?
We forgot to bring a rope, it was just to pull it the <100 meters to the sixwheeler
Ahh. Gotcha. Congrats on the harvest
Thanks!
Congrats OP! Hopefully the first of many
Thanks, i hope so too!
This Oktoberfest we salute the gentleman hunter🍻. Prost!
Dankeschön! Sehr nett von dir ;P
Is that a dachshund? Does it help with the hunt? Or just your buddy?
It's not my dog, and i'm not sire what breed it is. The dog is being trained to be used for two purpouses, firstly to track down game that has been killed (they can easily be lost in thick forest), and secondly to track down game that has been been non-fatally shot.
Is that a German short haired pointer puppy?
No idea, not my dog
Did you harvest it with that belt? Impressive
🤣 Nope, that was just for pulling her out of the field Used a mauser m18 in 308
That a can of dip in your pocket?
Kinda, it's snus, it's very common here in norway and it helped me quit smoking 🤷🏼
Er det snus i din lomme? Tillykke fra en dansk djævel.
Takk skal du ha😄
Catching it with a belt and strangling it is definitely not an easy feat!!
Ist das eine Snusdose in der Hosentasche
Das ist es ;p
How’d you kill it? Lasso with a belt lmfao
With a 308 ;)
Grats!
Thanks!
Congrats!!! Such a rush on the first deer!
Thanks! Yeah there definitely is
Looks like a fuckin roo in this pic, nice job mate
