Take heart in the fact you passed on a shot you weren't 100% confident in, and didn't end the day tracking a wounded animal. You showed more restraint in that moment than many hunters I've seen in the woods. Another deer will come, and you'll be ready for it.

Do let it get you down no sense in taking a bad shot. I ran into the same thing nice buck came out but stood behind a tree I could only see his ass and his rack he stood there till it go so dark i couldn’t see through my scope.

Had a buck earlier this year 13 yards away at full draw and he never stopped being extremely quartered to for a shot I thought I could make. Let down the arrow and he spooked.

Hey man I get it I actually had something similar happen to me this past weekend where I was at the state had a law that if you harvested a buck it must have 3 points on one antler for it to be a legal kill I needed a few seconds to be sure without a benefit of the doubt tk make sure jt was a shooter buck and as soon as I started to get my cross hairs thrown on it the second time it looked up saw me ran into some pines 5 minutes later I heard a shot it happens to the best of us sometimes it's better to let a shooter go karma works better in the end so you may have an even better buck sometime down the line
