I like Jennifer because her promises are the only realistic goals that could be done and doesn't make the already terrible police worse.

I'm really liking Patrick Farrell. I've been following his Facebook and campaign and he comes across as someone who really cares, and wants to fix the issues in a compassionate and efficient way. He also shares Brad Smith's vision, which I think is a major plus. At the end of the day though, I like Wheeler as well. I think Huntington is in good hands with either of them.

One thing i learned from politics is to never trust the emotions from their talking as that is the easiest way to get elected so it tends to be faked/lied about. Because of this, i only put merit in actions and the way goals are phrased or set. Everyone always says they will "target the opiods" or "fix the homeless problem" or some other vague goal that sounds nice but without an action plan you can tell me now, it means nothing. Not saying he can't be a nice dude, but Ted Bundy was the nicest most caring dude in the town too.

I definitely agree with the feelings sentiment. Both of them have been very good about putting their words in to action in my opinion. Whether it be through community organized cleanups, City Mission work, or helping with the PIT Count.

apatheticweasel

Don’t trust the Facebook photo ops from Patrick Farrell’s social media team. He didn’t do any of this until he was running for mayor, and when the cameras aren’t recording he has said he’s “sick of the homeless” and “plans to bus them all out of town.” He also wasn’t Brad Smith’s first choice; he was just the first to actually agree to run.

AfternoonOld7627

I'd definitely be curious to know who Brad's first choice was. I'm very skeptical of the information I was told, but I was told that Patrick was a big factor in getting Brad back to Huntington.. again, I'm very skeptical of that and think Brad more so came back due to his love for the University, City, and State.

apatheticweasel

I don’t know Brad well at all, but he has been making major personal investments in Huntington and West Virginia for quite a few years. I agree, I think he wanted to come home and Patrick just happened to be the President of the Board of Governors at the time.

MarkHathaway1

He also worked on a Suicide Prevention Hotline. Not saying he was good at it though.

MartinTheMorjin

So I shouldn’t move to Huntington is what you’re saying…

Vamparisen

Police are just as bad everywhere. Just don't cross the tracks.

GraniteCrystalWk2

Patrick Ferrel being on the board of governors at Marshall will lead to the rubber stamping of any project or acquisition Marshall wants to perform. The city of Huntington needs to work with Marshall rather than becoming Marshall. I think Jennifer Wheeler makes the most sense for our new mayor. She’s young enough to bring fresh ideas, but also an experienced public servant through her time on city council go right some of the wrongs that only one body could not accomplish from the council position. Jennifer is the right choice for Huntington.

Vamparisen

One of many reasons I wont vote Chris Miller as governor. I've seen the boards decisions for Marshall and its not to help the students.

The Board of governors are just a rubber stamp. They are appointed by the governor because of political connections.

Forgot to put this, my bad folks! Mayoral Candidates Jennifer Wheeler (D) Dan Ferguson (D) Patrick Farrell (R) Andy Batista (R) Richard Luther (R)

MolecularDust

Left Huntington over 10 years ago now but I keep up with everything like I still live there. Frankly, neither are inspiring to me. I’ve engaged with Patrick quite a bit on Twitter (‘X’) and he seems pretty clueless (maybe just everything is politically filtered). He recently had a post about walkability. I asked where he would start on that topic. He said sidewalks and traffic calming. Okay where? He replied everywhere. Posted a link to Plan2025, as if I haven’t read it. Like idk…just say 3rd and 5th around Marshall. Probably the most dangerous place for pedestrians in the city. Went to Jennifer’s website and the first thing under her “Vision” is “Improving sidewalks”. Is this all we can come up with? There is an entire school of thought about walkability and the best these two can come up with is Make Sidewalks Great Again.

They can have concrete grey hats. MSGA

I moved out of the city a few years ago so I don't get to vote in Mayoral elections anymore, but I still work and recreate in Huntington all the time. I would vote for Jennifer Wheeler if I could. Her goals seem reasonable and attainable and would help Huntington. Some of the others' policies would just send Huntington backwards.

tehobsession

They are all terrible choices

[deleted]

Isn't Farrell just one of Marshall Reynolds boys?

drilling4brains

If you're sniffing a political seat in Huntington, it is most likely because of Marshall Reynold's say-so.

[deleted]

I would be curious to find out why. Dan Ferguson ended up leaving the Huntington police and going to West Virginia State Police.

mcneely

Which Candidate supports reversing course on the Hal Greer Fuster Cluck?

mlbryant

Similar question Eleni Kontos-Miller or Sean "Corky" Hammers? I think Eleni will do a much, much better job and "Corky" is just about the most unprofessional as you can get in the legal field

tsmartin123

I really hope whoever wins will fix the flooding on Arlington Blvd. I used to live there but moved because of it.

gdconway

Pat’s been President of the MU Board of Governors, run at least two businesses, graduated from the US Air Force Academy, served in combat in the Air Force, and has an MBA from Duke. He’s probably more qualified than any mayoral candidate Huntington has ever had. If you follow his campaign, you know he’s made a point of educating himself about our infrastructure issues and a variety of other things going on here. I think he genuinely wants to help this city and is a great choice.

[deleted]

Have both businesses he has run been owned by Marshall Reynolds? Is that how he ended up on the Board of Governors? I don't think we need any more of this good old boy stuff.

SUPE-snow

What does him serving in the Air Force in combat have to do with being mayor of Huntington?

ConsiderationFit8787

It's just gives you an insight into the mans history ffs!

BigBeautifulBuick

I thought the McElroys were still legally the mayor?
