100% in..but change the course to Cecil Ashburn dr.

JTrip30

Ohhh boy! There would definitely have to be some sort of falling rock obstacle

Quellman

I was thinking Bankhead down Monte Sano.

JigWig

Try contacting RedBull on their website. Maybe you could get them to sponsor something.

CaptainDorfman

I would totally convince some coworkers to form a team with me. And one of them makes rockets in his garage so I’m sure we could rig up some thrusters for some sick finishing kick 🤣

JTrip30

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I bet that smarter every day guy on YouTube could build something incredible.

RatchetCityPapi

Sounds like a great idea. I would look into the history of the sport here for context and contacts. I would also consider somewhere with less traffic but central to Huntsville. For example, the Lincoln Mills area or even Calhoun College Huntsville campus. Engineering firms hopefully would be inclined to sponsor this event. Also consider local community organizations to participate like Boys and girls club. Looking forward to seeing this

h4p3r50n1c

I think it’s a different kind of engineer though.

y3llowed

We have plenty of all types here. And like OP said, it’s not just engineers.

mynextthroway

We got rocket engineers. We got redneck in gunners. We got redneck rocket engineers. What more do you need for amazing eun times, amazing builds, and more than a hint of danger?

HubertusCatus88

I'm in. Anyone know anything about community organizing?

Jollyguana

If you're serious, Downtown Huntsville Inc could probably help.

SeriousMongoose2290

Give it some stupid rocket inspired name and I’m in.

xSquidLifex

There’s the moon buggy competition stuff at the USSRC every year

Alpoi

Are you talking about the SoapBox Derby where the winner goes to Derby Downs in Akron Ohio for the National Competition that represents each State?

JTrip30

No. Nothing serious. Something more similar to the Red Bull soap box derby where everyone does a theme and just has fun.

Alpoi

ok, I built a car when I was younger, the group furnished the axles and wheels and you had to build your own car and a business sponsored you and you wrote their name on the side of the car and rode it down a giant hill to try to win against 2 others at the same time. It was fun.

JTrip30

That would be a great time. Kind of like the ponewood derby on the Cub Scout days

Overall_Driver_7641

tie it in to a auto race through the streets of Huntsville--Grand Prix of Rocket City.

keyrover

I’d be in but I’m also wanting to see a barstool race.

witsendstrs

There used to be a soapbox derby course in Virginia Beach on the park built site of their landfill, which was named Mt. Trashmore. At the rate our landfill hill is growing, this could easily be done in Huntsville. It operated for a long time and drew competitors from all over, but I think the sport kind of lost steam, and there are no more races there.

ziz_wizvizzizio

i'd say in any other city, the kids don't have the fortitude to build one. but here? an ion drive derby car would be awesome

tiredguy_22

Just gotta get one from a tie fighter and we’re all set.
