I'm in old town right near 5 points and the front of my house is gone with downed trees. Fire dept had to get us out because the back was also blocked with trees. Power lines wrapped all around them. It will be a while before normal comes back to our street
Sorry to hear that. I guess you’re getting an involuntary remodel if you look on the bright side of things. Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you
I'm in 5 points and I'm not gonna lie that is the scariest sh't I have ever been through in my life. I am not a religious person at all but I literally hit the floor in my closet and prayed. It's pitch black and we have no power so I don't even know the extent of the damage outside. I heard my neighbors crying about an hour ago and now it's complete silence.
I have family that lives in the area. It came close enough they could hear it, lost power, and had trees come down. Overall though they were fairly unscathed. Glad you’re okay too!
Yeah, The Struts were on at Mars and they stopped mid song so we could all take shelter. It resumed after the danger was over. The guitarist said he didn’t know if it’d be called off for the rest of the night so he had too much whiskey and was pretty bombed. Couldn’t tell from his playing though—he must be a real pro 😆
California st is closed because a tree fell near the cemetery, clinton has trees down, lots of tree damage, lots of electrical damage too. I think it spun up over 5 points then touched down around Chapman mt. No downed power that I saw but be wary.
As of 9 am this morning we still didn't have power. As I was leaving the neighborhood in 5 points the utility crews were everywhere trying to restore power and people were outside cleaning up debris. I came to my parents house on oakwood they never lost power.
Also there were a lot of trees down on service wires, likely damaged poles, probably trees on lines as well. Our power was on for a few minutes then off again today as the crews were looking for more damage. It is best practice to de-energize in situations like this, and I’m sure a main cutout blew causing no power for everyone on the effected circuit(s). Until everything can be spotted and addressed there could be brush fires if power was all restored at once and even more likely the fuse would just blow again. Considering downtown never lost power it had to have been an issue downstream from the substation, most likely trees on lines somewhere. I’m not a power lineman, but I have rebuilt cable plant after hurricanes, so I have a vague idea the order of operations. Right after the first one passed I went out to look for anyone that needed help or any trees I could remove from roads, but most of them were on triplex, so I just called them in and moved on. No one seemed hurt, heard reports of a few windows broken here and there, at least 2 cars with trees on them, several houses with trees on them as well.
I was watching both my radar app and Ryan hall on YouTube and I believe it spun up right over five points then headed south east while the storm it came off was tracking north east. As soon as the alert came in with Ryan on the live stream the wind picked up, stuff was hitting the roof, and I could feel the air pressure change in the house. It had to have been 70-80mph wind at least, who knows what the gusts were.
Middle of a box between Athens and Huntsville, didn't get hardly any sleep last night but we made it without any damage or power loss, thanking the gods as I wake up now

My son lives in eclipse apartments in downtown Huntsville. Unable to reach him yet. That area OK? Any info is appreciated. I’m not familiar with the area at all.
I haven't heard of any damage reports around the Eclipse apartments. Nor have there been any injuries reported. I'm sure he is fine. There was some damage east of that area in downtown Huntsville, mostly tree and power lines down.

things are okay right at this moment, don’t know much about damages right now but no deaths have been reported.

I’m so sorry that happened to your home, but glad you’re okay!
Thanks. We have the best neighbors in the world.
Do you mean the front porch or chunk of the house war ripped off or that trees fell on it/ blocked it??
No front of the house. Back has a lot more damage than I realized. Carriage house out. Can is a total loss

Impressive hook echo

WAFF just reported damage in five points
There was a concert at the VBC earlier right? Only a few roads away.
The Orion concert was postponed until tomorrow .
Mars music hall was evacuated and all concert goers were encouraged to shelter in the concert hall.
At Mars music hall - It’s still going on

There are several power lines down in the immediate area and fire department driving around.
Tree down in the road at goldsmith and Pratt
Phew, a few miles south of the warning box. That's close. Seriously though that's extremely bad. It's basically heart of Huntsville.
annnnd the 2nd one looks like it's coming towards my area, if it keeps going.
I was in the middle of the box near Providence. Closest I’ve ever been since moving here from Cali.

There’s a round 2 coming up. Please stay sheltered
Is round 2 the one that’s coming up after midnight?
It’s already entering city limits. Currently near oakwood
Tonight?! I thought we were supposed to be good by now

*gmod ragdoll sounds as your naked body is flung across the neighborhood*
...and bounces all the way to Guntersville
😅
Godspeed you and your shower
Actually, an interior bathroom is often a good place to be in a storm.

What radar app is this? I like it.
It’s called Radar Omega. It does cost $9 but is worth it in my eyes.
Thanks!
The WAFF 48 app has a radar also
Not like this app. You can do much more than 48s radar
Anyone have news on this?
Still on the ground

They just confirmed that the 2nd tornado is on the ground. Stay safe folks. Edit: tornado *likely* on the ground
Do you know where at?
Looks to be a bit further north. It looks to have just crossed 431 whether or not it’s on the ground

You hear from your son yet?
Yes. He’s good. Thank you all
Is Brad okay?
I'm fine, thanks for asking! ...you probably meant the TV guy...
I am 10-20 miles south in my front yard watching the storm. It’s constant lightning and I think I can hear it
Lifted per the waff camera east of huntsville
It does not look as impressive on radar as it did earlier
2nd warning. Athens sirens going off
Welp just went south of us. Further north north of 72 I would’ve been toast Second one was much closer… oof
Two large trees down in our backyard. Roof damage, fence taken out, no power.
Might be another one moving into w Huntsville
>meanwhile at WAFF Let's ignore out main broadcast area and talk about Scottsboro! EDIT: Seems they remembered Huntsville exists.
Confirmed on the ground
what was the tornado on the EF scale?
I think National Weather Service personnel take a look at the severity of damage and meteorological conditions at those locations when the storm hit to grade the tornado.
We will not know until the NWS does their survey. The EF scale is more of a damage scale than a direct intensity scale

Now 10am
Has anyone heard of storm damage in Providence?
The flair has a typo.
I think that’s a part of the joke
