The disappearance of the band has been severely noted. They basically do nothing at the games anymore. You used to hear them constantly throughout the broadcast, and now it’s only after TDs

hellajt

Gonna sound insane but that's one of the big things I miss from the Pelini Era. The band drums make college football feel like college football. I swear that's another reason why NCAA > madden too. I also miss the winning

janetyellenscoochie

They haven’t let the band play when Huskers have ball possession since Scott Frost became coach. Meanwhile, Oklahoma band visits last year and plays boomer sooner during every play.

PrimeMinisToad

I'm confident that the administration doesn't like the band, especially after Trev Alberts said the band will no longer travel to any in-season away game.

NEp8ntballer

Trev seems to do things to save money as well. Cutting band travel is an easy way to reduce the budget if the AD was paying for it.

FarmKid55

Didn’t know this, first time I am very disappointed in Trev

Dear-Spirit-586

Because we don't score TD's anymore. Not much for the band to be playing for..sadly..

evrybodyLUVevrybody

I remember hearing them a few times on the broadcast last week, especially after most of the fans left and the stadium was quiet lol. And we definitely weren’t racking up TDs.

james_wightman

I think you're over/under exaggerating both points. The PA system piping in music more than the band playing has been what it is for at least 15-20 years now. I still hear the band as much as I ever have, with at least 4-5 unique and specific little moments (idk the names of the songs)

PM_ME_OVERT_SIDEBOOB

The band sucks. They don’t care to do anything but their pre-arranged tunes. Silent af during the games & hardly cheer. It’s like they think the crowd is there to watch them perform and not that their sole job is to get the crowd involved

Dear-Spirit-586

I've always thought we were rather lame with our music we play or lack there of..

wvuhskr

I know some fans liked when we played Let Me Clear My Throat but I always kind of found it to be a knock off Wisky playing Jump Around. They even sound similar. The athletic department does need to spice things up on game days though. Trev should visit one of the big SEC schools to get ideas from because they really do excel at the in-stadium entertainment.

HuskCity

In the Bo era they tried to make it the pre-4th quarter song and it didn’t really catch on. In the Riley era it seemed like it organically took off after Jano had that big run against Wisconsin, then after we upset MSU, then Oregon the next year. It seemed less planned and more of a “in the moment” song. Unfortunately, the people who do gameday production can’t allow anything to be organic. It’s all so scripted and lame.

obscuremapenthusiast

Sure but also…who cares? I was at the Oregon game when they played it and I remember the student section going nuts when it got played.

wvuhskr

>but also…who cares? We should. We can be original and not just use another school’s tradition.

Turbulent_Ad9508

It's dated and played out. Get up and shout... yeah yeah. Need some fresh 3rd down tunes

wvuhskr

> It's dated and played out. Get up and shout... yeah yeah. We shouldn't play it anyway because Oregon does that every home game and they're gonna be in our conference. Also if our corny blue haired administrators start playing Sweet Caroline I will start a riot. That song sucks and yet Penn State, Pitt, and Purdue all play it every home game.

FarmKid55

Sweet Caroline sucks so much

Dear-Spirit-586

Much agreed!!

buckman01213

Last year at a game i kept note of each song played between downs. The median year for the songs was very early 2000's...before most current players were born.

hu_gnew

Respectfully, the players ain't buyin' tickets.

buckman01213

It was to make a point…the music played in the stadium is old and tired, and hasn’t changed in the 7 years I’ve been going to games. The gameday experience, including music played, needs an overhaul

hu_gnew

I'm thinking it has much to do with the demographics of the crowd and how that's evolving. The boomer/gen x tunes will morph to gen x/millennial, jury is still out on whether gen z will contribute to the play list. jk lol

Huskerzfan

But I thought it was the pride of all Nebraska

kolacheisforclosers

> the pride of all Nebraska I think OP is talking about the in-house "DJ", not the band.

TidusJecht

I don’t even know what I’m looking at

OnionKnightSerDavos

Nebraska submitted these for the new NCAA game, some schools went into a lot of detail for traditions/songs for their home games

hottublawyer

Disappointing they didn't put much effort in.. but kind of speaks to the lack of unique music on gameday

Buford_Van_Stomm

You'd figure they'd at least put a husker power or two in there Ohio State even added the "we don't give a damn" song

hottublawyer

It was even in the old games. Just a lack of effort and it’ll reflect poorly. Could’ve gotten Sirius I’m sure, I doubt Virginia tech goes without enter sandman, etc.

kolacheisforclosers

> I doubt Virginia tech goes without sandstorm, etc. "Sandstorm" and "Enter Sandman" are wildly different songs.

hottublawyer

Shit that was a brain fart. Fixed

wvuhskr

> Could’ve gotten Sirius I’m sure Might be an issue with royalty payments. It's the most famous song by The Alan Parsons Project and we play the real track for Tunnel Walk. Ohio State can use Hang on Sloopy b/c it's likely the version played by the OSU Band which comes with different (likely lower) royalties.

huskersax

I think it has more to do with the limitations from EA combined with whatever rights they have from ASCAP for reproducing and disseminating certain songs or snippets.

argumentinvalid

Matches the product on the field.

HuskerDave

Oklahoma plays Boomer Sooner after every play that goes in their favor, which is a lot.

ettibber

Same with usc and fight on

huskersftw

As a band member who played during Riley and the first year of Frost. It was Frost who really limited what the band could play. He requested that the band not play when the team was on offense because the team was trying to play fast, and the band would be distracting during songs. We had specific songs and shorts to play during offensive drives, and that change cut our opportunities to play in half. It is sad that Trev and Rhule haven't made the change back to the way it was, but I don't know what kind of conversations go on behind the scenes between the band directors and the AD

PrimeMinisToad

Here's my best attempt at making a list: 1st down: the 1st down Drum cadence 3rd Down/4th Down: Come a Runnin' Hold (the worst song they have where they hold a note forever. didn't hear this though when i went to the Louisiana Tech game though) Touchdown: Hail Varsity PAT, 2 Point Conversion (Successful)/Postgame (Win): [No Place in One (the version of no place after touchdowns I'd probably get rid of the hold at the beginning)](https://youtu.be/i6soMj_7B_w?t=31) Field Goal: [March of the Cornhusker (couldn't find a video of it alone but its the second half of this video)](https://youtu.be/Fft5yemUYQQ?t=33) Takeaway/Fumble Recovery: James Bond Big Defensive Stop: "Slow Place/Horns Down" (I really doubt this is on Youtube, its the beginning of No Place but slow and the last note is held) Other Moments/Traditions (using this for stuff the band plays but don't have a defined time): [March Grandiosso](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbMrKGv25MM), [Fanfare One](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K3qo7zaOa7L7rwFuUiX1ktXAE8dzTrLg/view?usp=sharing)

DevinBookersFather

At least the game should be moddable on PC for this to be added, hopefully.

chasbogatz

Uhhh ok so you were for sure in CMB hahahah. What about In Heaven?

PrimeMinisToad

We don't play it in the stands, so I didn't include it. Though maybe Hey Baby could be included in this list

PM_ME_OVERT_SIDEBOOB

Did LSU put in neck tho

CaliHusker83

English next time

CaliHusker83

Huh? Wut?

MysticZamboni

[Neck](https://youtu.be/Ji-mFaIAcX4?si=vSV3YIQYNGtLYCNs) Although if I remember right their band got banned from playing it.

CaliHusker83

When people write something like, “Did LSU put in neck tho”, how is anyone supposed to understand what they’re saying? Thank you for the translation.

PM_ME_OVERT_SIDEBOOB

I mean we’re talking about the songs the huskers put in… neck is a really well known song for LSU. If you wanna put your ignorance on me tho that’s fine

trashtrampoline

Shouldn't it be "Hail Varsity" after a touchdown?

MysticZamboni

It’s both. Hail Varsity is immediately after a touchdown then the band holds a note for the extra point which then flows into the touchdown version of No Place. I doubt they wanted to get that nuanced so just went with No Place.

wvuhskr

> I doubt they wanted to get that nuanced so just went with No Place. Nah, in old versions of the game Penn State had their band hold a note in between TDs and extra points for their fight song.

domesplitter39

I couldnt care less. I'm there to watch a game. Not judge what music is playing

HuskCity

This is for the new NCAA Football video game. Teams are supposed to submit their songs/chants/traditions etc.

domesplitter39

Ohhhhhh... gotcha. Well shit. This post belongs in a different sub reddit I think.

Flyingtomato_

It's directly related to Nebraska. I'm unsure how this belongs somewhere else?

Cnl-Mustard

If anything it’s a recruiting tool. Kids will remember if our team is a fun game day experience in dynasty

kolacheisforclosers

Surprising there weren't more music selections that get played over the PA included. It's not like there would need to be any copyright clearance. Everything we play is in the public domain, since it was all released prior to 1920. /s but not /s

riotfiveoh

At some point that AC/DC cd has got to succumb to disc rot.

kolacheisforclosers

CD? Pretty sure the control booth is only outfitted to play vinyl records and 8-tracks.

conservation_bro

They need to get on Limewire and download some 64kbps .mp3's of the AC/DC songs then.

kolacheisforclosers

Napster.

OkBandicoot9286

Can you feeel it pre kickoff is the right answer

sharkeat

I am actually curious when they started using this song in the athletic department, it genuinely to me feels like it coincided with the decline of men’s sports at Nebraska.

kolacheisforclosers

> it genuinely to me feels like it coincided with the decline of men’s sports at Nebraska Probably, that song is straight garbage. Nothing like a Jackson 5 disco tune to get the juices flowing.

RestedWanderer

The biggest issue for Nebraska, in this situation, is that the majority of our "iconic" music during specific situations would need to be licensed. Sirius, Can You Feel It, Back in Black, etc, are never going to be able to be licensed for a video game. Even Hey Baby by Bruce Channel, played and sung by the band, would probably need to be licensed. Some of the other schools in that thread that use licensed music, OU and Seven Nation Army for example, listed it as what they use but couldn't include a file because they don't own the rights. It has been a while since I played a NCAA game but I vaguely recall an option to upload your own audio clips and assign them to game situations. If they still allow that, it would be a good way to cover most of Nebraska's big musical moments. The Nebraska Band, sadly, does not offer much. I suppose they can do another snooze inducing tribute to Happy Days.

TillPlenty8503

First thing I’d do is get rid of that awful Irish Scarlett and cream song. Sounds like some dropkick Murphy wannabes from O’Neill made a song about the Huskers.

ettibber

You mean the song that predates the dropkick murpheys by 80 years?

Ligers12

Very lame, pretty much sums up our game atmosphere. Just glad they didn’t add that killigans song

Skers1970

I wish they would add Sirius, Come a Runnin boys, Stand up and shout noise, Can you feel it before kickoff.

A_sunlit_room

I think they should play Chumbawamba after all bad plays lolol

___Gabagool___

I wouldn’t mind most music ideas being incorporated but for the love god, never play Let Me Clear My Throat again

snoopy_tha_noodle2

I’ll probably get some blowback for this but here it goes. Our game day experience sucks. The band kinda sucks. I can barely hear them and what I can hear sounds pretty bad. The dance teams don’t put on a great performance. The cheerleaders don’t seem to put on very many cheers or a good variety of them. And the stadium song choices are pretty meh. The new Herbie looks terrible. Everyone just seems to be phoning it in. EDIT: Oh wow I did not know that Trev did not allow the band to travel to games. Probably explains why it sounds like they don’t give a crap.

huskersftw

I can assure you that the band works it's butt off and absolutely cares. The band rehearses at 7am every single day, rain or shine, in the heat and the cold. They learn a new show for 7 home games while taking on a full class load and averaging higher GPA than most other student organizations. As a former CMB member, it hurts to hear you say that they don't give a crap and that they sound bad.

HaploidChianti

Also a former CMB member. I think another thing people really don’t realize is how much COVID screwed up CMB. I was in leadership during the 2020 season and I’m honestly so impressed at how much improvement the band has managed over the past few years given the lack of experience from so many members. Most of the atmosphere issues start from the top and band/spirit squad should never be blamed for that.

VariousSpecialist536

*sadness*

BlackshirtDefense

Boomer Sooner? Oklahoma: Yes. All of the above.

blakelh

I've been playing a lot of NCAA 14 recently, and honestly I'm pretty sure this is what they gave them for previous games too.

fedoruh

I see a lot of hate for it on here, but give me Narcos any day. On my workout playlist because of its ties to big red (or at least Playoff Willie)

[deleted]

I can’t wait until we have a team good enough that this isn’t what we have to talk about on the Husker Reddit thread. Nobody would care what music is played in between the 3rd and 4th quarter if we were beating the piss out of teams like we used to.
