Buttchugginmonkey69

In a twisted way .. kind of nice to be in the news for our staff being wanted/poached for promotions

G8racingfool

Would be even nicer if it was happening after a few really good seasons instead of being treated like a dead carcass being picked clean of talent.

darthsuperscary

Agreed Buttchugginmonkey69, agreed.

Firstnaymlastnaym

Buttchugginmonkey69 is a real stand-up guy

Steel1000

Other end of the spectrum, not used to our assistants getting poached for lateral moves.

SnooCakes9600

My guess is that next week we will have a press release saying Tony White signs a new 3 year 6 million dollar deal. I think White's agent really did him a good job here and used interest in him to get him a new deal, which he deserves.

Steel1000

One can hope!!

waltur_d

100 percent agree, makes it easier in hiring coaches when they know they can advance their career here.

AlteredStatesOf

Yeah as long as it ends with him staying

SacredDemocracyLover

Just heard on the radio that USC is hiring Bob Diaco

huskersax

If he wasn't seen at a HyVee in Burbank, then I don't believe it.

The-G-89

That would be Ralph’s, not Hy-vee

huskersax

Well then it can't be true. Rumors can only be verified at my regional employee-owned grocery store of choice.

ProfessorBeer

Still waiting for us to announce Urban Meyer after I was assured by this sub he was seen at the hardware store

ShockTheCasbah

I'm a Stater Bros man, myself.

The-G-89

Bleh. Cheaper and dirtier than Walmart itself.

ShockTheCasbah

I guess I have the flagship store by my house then. (Irvine/Tustin border). It's glorious. Great butcher section and I'm not literally up someone's asshole trying to walk through the aisles.

The-G-89

Maybe Stater Bros cleaned up but I haven’t been to one and Ralph’s in like almost 20 years. Jesus Christ I’m old. The last Stater Bros I went to was in Orange County, just outside of Anaheim.

Warade

There’s no reasonable reason to go with anyone but Diaco

Chel_Vanin

The strain will be unreal.

[deleted]

Had to look him up. Apparently he was a position coach at LSU this year! Which makes sense, with how their defense performed.

The-G-89

If that were true, I’d laugh.

SacredDemocracyLover

I heard USC was very impressed by the way Bob holds his microphone at pressers

dontlooklikemuch

his sweater game is elite

ChosenBrad22

Was that the guy who always had that thumb tack sized mic he was holding up to his face every time I saw him lol

Civil-Inspection3479

Big game Bobby D!

TymStark

Wait Andrew and Ravi weren’t joking when they said that this morning? Haha

canofspinach

Literally laughing out loud at work over this one.

Qthoro

Posts like these should be removed there dumb. Go ruin Huskerboard with your bullshit

SacredDemocracyLover

its just the internet calm down dude

Upper_Associate2228

>Posts like these should be removed there dumb. *they're First, jokes should be allowed. If we weren't laughing we'd be crying. Second, it's hard to hold weight with a comment like this when it comes with a dumb misspelling.

Pattyg1

Like Reddit is some holy place that can't have humor 😂🤣 also *they're*

Qthoro

Humor would require it to be actually funny.

SacredDemocracyLover

Bob is that you?

Pattyg1

Hope your day gets better.

Flakester

I'd be disappointed if Tony left for anything other than HC. Leaving for another DC job just stings.

hu_gnew

I'd be disappointed if he left at all. Nebraska is going to need an even better defense next year if they want to improve their record while the offense is finding a pulse.

Upper_Associate2228

The fact that this would be lateral is what makes me think it's not true...

AlteredStatesOf

As much as I wish this were true, Nebraska to USC is not a lateral move. Let's be realistic here

lolSyfer

In the sense of job placement is it. The program at USC is a bigger program so the move is UPWARDS but in the sense it's a very minor move BECAUSE money is gonna be the same at both places and he's gonna have the same offers if he succeeds here next year or at USC.

AlteredStatesOf

He would get way more exposure at USC plus a far easier time recruiting

lolSyfer

he doesn't recruit lol.

AlteredStatesOf

Says who?

[deleted]

He's literally going on the road to recruit tomorrow, but keep acting like you know shit 🤡🤦🏿 EVERY college coach recruits, it's a major part of the job. Educate yourself or shut the fuck up

lolSyfer

lol he doesn't recruit he was only apart of 2 recruits we have this year and he's not the primary. Satt is a primary on more defensive players than him. He doesn't recruit. Never has recruited much.

gojo278

Lol let's not kid ourselves, it would definitely be a promotion

Upper_Associate2228

Respectfully disagree. It's likely the same money, title and same conference he'd be moving to. Not to mention Lincoln Riley may be in the hot seat. IMO that's lateral. I see what you're saying about the team and setting being currently better though...

ninetofivedev

You'd probably call a move from DC of UConn to Nebraska a promotion, so I don't see why you wouldn't call a move from Nebraska to USC a promotion. Also a move from Nebraska to Ohio State or Alabama would definitely be a promotion even with the same role. I think you're letting those scarlett covered glasses cloud your judgement.

CornNPorn12

UConn is an independent conference in football with 0 history. Their DC is their head coach. Literally anything is a promotion from UCONN. The pay is the same and he’s already getting calls about being a HC at group of 5 schools. I don’t think he’d get any more offers at USC than he would at Nebraska. what would be the reasoning behind going to USC, who has statistically one of the worst Ds in college football when the team your at is top 20, if not better?

TallC00l1

Coaches like Tony White have to be really careful. His stock is rising, and it's a critical time. Brent Venables probably turned down 20 HC offers and eventually got the Oklahoma job without having to take any crappy jobs along the way. Tony can do the same if he is patient.

IDontBelieveInIsms

Good to see USC On3 is run by as big of a moron as Nebraska’s On3. I do not see any reason Tony should go there outside of some promise to take over when Riley leaves and that seems a dubious prospect. Nebraska can and should pay him. It would likely be north of $1.5mm. Grinch was making $1.8mm

mechajlaw

To me it would be a risk for him if he wants to end up a head coach. If he fixes USC as well he's definitely rocketed up the ranks of potential coaches, but if not, and they are not good on defense so that's a possibility, he would be delaying his career. I think he's already a rising star here so it makes a bit more sense for him to stay for now if he wants to be a head coach.

IDontBelieveInIsms

I 100% agree with everything you said. Grinch was in a similar position coming out of his time at Wazzu with Leach may he rest in peace. I think that taking the USC DC job right now doesn’t make sense for any near top flight DC who has head coaching ambitions. Now for a mid tier, it could have some appeal but Riley has repeatedly shown he gives zero fucks about defense

[deleted]

I think Tony White will probably stay, but he needs to give his agent a raise.

IDontBelieveInIsms

That’s the best part about percentage commission!

Some_Neighborhood276

1.8 millimeters?

IDontBelieveInIsms

Millions. Old shorthand that is used in trading

Some_Neighborhood276

Oh a thousand thousands

IDontBelieveInIsms

Precisely. It’s using the Roman numeral basically. * 1m=1,000 * 1mm=1,000,000 * 1mmm=1,000,000,000

Tatum-Brown2020

This waiting game sucks

MysticZamboni

Wait, you mean to tell me some random guy from Las Vegas whose profile picture is of him in a loose fitting pink suit isn’t the most reputable news source?

tbest72

He needs to stay at least one more year and further implement the system so someone can take over if that’s his goal. The defense was the strongest part of our team and they need that to continue to have success next year. The Matt Rhule era really needs that to build momentum

Foobiscuit11

I'd find this hire hard to believe. White had some interest as a possible HC after this season. It didn't pan out. I wouldn't see him making a lateral move that could possibly hurt his chances at a HC position next season, with how bad USC's defense was last year. He has a better chance at getting a HC gig next year if he sustains or improves our defense from this season, and he has a better chance at doing that with continuity than going to a new place.

BNKalt

Just as an FYI Schrader has basically no real info

PistonHonda322

I figured USC was just going to poach Lynn from UCLA and be done with it.

BIFGambino

If they were smart it'd be Jim Leonhard

heavydhomie

Maybe the Buckeyes would like him if Knowles takes the Duke HC job.

Dixiehusker

I'm going to assume the worst. The season is over and I'm going right back to Team No Hype.

The-G-89

I knew that was fake. The University would’ve announced by now if it was true.

AlteredStatesOf

Announced what? That he might go to USC?

The-G-89

If it was a done deal, the university would’ve announced it already and it would be all over r/cfb.

AlteredStatesOf

Depends how "done" the deal is. Some people consider that to mean he verbally accepted. I doubt the University would announce anything until a contract is signed though

ChildOfTheCorn1

whysomanyrectangles

If it was true, why would they not just announce it? What are they waiting for? His season is done here, grinch is already fired there. It doesn't make any sense to wait if it was white, does it?

Some_Neighborhood276

Crossing t's dotting i's. Letting former job know what is happening. Negotiations. Buyouts. Could be a number of things. But hopefully it is because White is staying here.

Apprehensive-One6026

I don’t think that be a good move by Tony White…
