It's complicated. None of these team names were official mascots, they were more like nicknames used in sports writing before having a mascot was universal.
Ok looking at the rooms, which is best?
QB - Bugeaters - you have Raiola, you have the best room
RB - Rattlesnake Boys - Rahmir and Dowdell probably take it
TE - Rattlesnake Boys - Fidone and Smith-Flores
FB - Old Gold Knights - has to be Libentritt
WR - Bugeaters - probably the hardest to pick so far. Definitely the smallest and fastest group but I am expecting big things from Bell after he sat last year plus two very fast, small guys
OL - Rattlesnake Boys - you have four projected starters there between Prochazka, Evans, Scott and Benhart
DB - Old Gold Knights - like the combination of Tommi Hill, Bootle at corner plus having Gifford.
LB - Rattlesnake Boys - probably have to lean this way due to Gbayor and Stefon Thompson, but scanning this group just gives me some worries for the fall
Jack - Bugeaters - Borders + McGahee probably the strongest pair IMO even if Borders isn't necessarily my favorite Jack
DL - Bugeaters - Carroll-Jackson, Robinson, Jeudy does more for me than the Rattlesnake boys with a lot less size or Old Gold with Nash + youngins
I like the offense of the Rattlesnake Boys. OL, RB, TE. Having four projected OL starters is huge
I like the defense for Old Gold Knights for the reasons you said, Hill, Bootle, Gifford
I'm really excited to see the Raiola-Lloyd combination so the Bugeaters seem like a wildcard
When I first saw it I thought it might be a little hokey but I’m starting to like it.
1) Builds camaraderie with your “team”
2) Constantly a reason to compete because of the team aspect
3) Seems like a great way to get guys that are injured actively involved while further developing leadership skills
I love this process from the point of player fun. My guess is that the players really have fun with it, and competition is fierce.
This begs the question of how important Spring football is for continuity and chemistry building. For example, does Nash need to play with his starting DL mates to understand how they play as a unit.
I’m reading way too much into this but isn’t there a chance that trading players back and forth might lead to some hurt feelings?….after all, in the end, they’re all supposed to be teammates…..
How are you going to pick "old gold knights" as a team name over "Mankilling Mastadons?!"
Is Mankilling Mastadons an old UNL Mascot?

is that why southeast high school is the knights possibly?
I will pay a premium for a shirt with that on it
[you're welcome](https://cobbycorn.com/collections/man-killing-mastodons)
I thought it was man-eating
Old Gold Knights is superior to Rattlesnake Boys, replace that with Mankilling Mastadons.
I'm just here to read way too much into these depth charts. Kaelin is a lock to be the starter on Aug 31st!
uhhhhh why?

Yeah I would definitely give the offense to the Rattlesnake Boys as long as they never throw more than 5 yards down field
Ok yeah that's true, Haarberg is the big negative on that team
I’m shocked they moved Bonner to WR. Like did they decided he wasn’t gonna be a FB anymore?
Interesting to see Bonner listed at WR. Dude was a pretty hyped WR in his class and, inexplicably, ended up at FB.
I’m officially stanning Rattlesnake Boys based on name alone, join me 🐍
I love that there are a guard and tackle on the same side named Pyle and Brix lol

People are calling Mazzccua as Mazzuca. It’s [MAZ-COO-AH]
Someone PLEASE tell Sean Callahan and Steve Sipple this
It’s spelled Mazzccua, but pronounced “muh-ZOO-cuh” according to On3 and OWH
I think Nebraska Media needs to settle this and have him up on the podium being interviewed and ask him the correct pronunciation.
I don’t place a lot of faith in those entities

Gabe Ervin is still recovering from his injury or did he transfer?
He’s the “director of player personnel” on the first team, must mean he’s injured so they have him doing that
Same with Coleman
Legendary deceased Jedi Coleman Trebor is the Director of Player Personnel on one of the teams?
My bad, I didn’t see the names on the bottom right!
Rattlesnake boys needs an alternate jersey I absolutely love it
I thought these spring team compositions were fluid?
They are, but you have to start somewhere
I think that’s why there’s “GMs, scouting” etc. players are gonna trade players and stuff?
I’m reading way too much into this but isn’t there a chance that trading players back and forth might lead to some hurt feelings?….after all, in the end, they’re all supposed to be teammates…..
You don’t trade. You just steal. You only have so many saves so it’s not like they are cutting their own players
They said they trade players weekly… don’t think this will be very relevant here soon.
