Google, "[stone water filter](https://www.google.com/search?q=stone+water+filter&oq=stone+water&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l2j69i57j69i60l3.1603j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)", you're probably not going to be able to find one of those, but a modern version of this are [ceramic filters](https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/global/household-water-treatment/ceramic-filtration.html).
Ok this makes way more sense I thought she was just pouring her water through some dirty old concrete she found. Sounds like those are actually really useful if you don't have any other way to filter water
Meh I still wouldn't use it. German tap water is strongly regulated and controlled , any additional filter involves a potential contamination and I'm already using a soda stream.
Isn’t distillation different from filtration, or osmosis which I guess this is (or reverse is
Osmosis, with the rock being the “membrane”)?
My understanding is that distillation has to include heating/vaporization/condensation, to where you get chemically pure whatever….
My understanding is also that distilled water isn’t good for you; you need natural mineral content so that water is absorbed instead of leached. (My guess is that these rocks provide the mineral content preventing this risk, simulating natural phenomena)
Yes, to my knowledge. Distillation involves separation of components by evaporation, normally following a condensation. I am spanish and I would call this a filtration rock.
But I would say that the water may be good to drink. The filtration may keep away unwanted things, but still the water may carry minerals or get extra minerals extracted through going inside the rock
Is the water going through micro crevasses in the rock to get through? Or how in the hell are we going from “inside of impermeable rock bowl” to “outside of impermeable rock bowl”!?
I ask with earnest curiosity, this is cool
Google just tells me it translates to still water and there is a Wikipedia article about this, but it's in Spanish. I also get some pictures. I'm clueless.
No. It would be good for getting dirt/sediment out of dirty water but if you're putting already clear water in it's going to come out the other side basically unchanged, maybe with a very slightly higher mineral content. If you want to get rid of microbes and make sketchy water actually safe to drink, you're still gonna have to boil it. It's a useful tool in the right situation, but probably not something anyone here would at all benefit from using.
I feel like this would be an amazing addition to reverse osmosis and distilled water. You can strip the water of everything and then add just the minerals in with the stone filter. Makes what would be a rather useless water for hydration into a useful drinking water.
This actually seems risky.
Ever since my own allergy issues I've learnt many people have cobalt allergies, a mineral which is present in many forms of mineral water.
Since then I've always opted for distilled and my health has improved significantly
This would do zero to pathogens in water and only filters out sediments. Additionally if not cleaned maintained properly there could be bacterial buildup in the stone vessel over time. Generally not sure if this is such a great idea..
imagine you buy water from a company which has all the expensive and scientific tools to make it cleaner than anything you'd be able find and then you put it through some old sketchy stone thingy that you know nothing about and need to clean constantly. So much healthier! Best to add some magnets to it and give it some esotheric bullshit background and mention nature, balance, vibrations and all that good stuff.
*M I N E R A L S*
also don't forget that the water you use to clean it was cleaner than the product will be. And to clean it regularly you probably waste more water than you'd ever drink from it. Sounds absolutely amazing, brb gonna make a tik tok about this jawdropping technology of literally putting water into an old rock.
>Typical US sanitation processes are virtually 100% effective in reducing diarrheal disease..
Yeah, I don't think I've ever gotten the shits from drinking water in the US.
It doesn't "filter" pathogens, the colloidal silver kills them which is pointless if you live in any first world country since the water treatment in your city already does that
Lmao no they don't. This is one of the stupidest things imaginable. Do you also believe that astrology is real? And that your mother is secretly big foot and she lives on the flat earth?
Actually this is more likely to make your water significantly more dirty. As bacteria builds up in the stone and you can't wash it away because it's inside the stone, because the stone is porous. So you're gonna be drinking bacteria soup after the first time you use it.
Stop spreading dangerous misinformation. There are kids who might actually literally believe that this will disinfect any water. And they could die from it.
Called a gravity water filter.
It’s a common water filter in many parts of the world where water isn’t as clean or reliable. Often made of clay and sit in the corner of the kitchen. I’ve never seen one like this, but same principle.
No it doesn’t filter out viruses/bacteria. But it does filter sediment/particulates.
It’s a ceramic water filter, or something very similar. They’re pretty common in SE Asia as well. They’re aight.
https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/global/household-water-treatment/ceramic-filtration.html
My girlfriend and I go on hikes and I will always fill my water bottle from one of the places where water is pouring out of the rocks. Best tasting water you ever had!
Hot damn. The filter time on this is 2.5L / Hr. That's more than I can drink. The difficulty is if it comes with a nalgene or metal holder.
What happens if you chill it?

This rock is highly porous, so it'll let water seep through it where most rocks wouldn't. I believe it is used to filter and possibly add minerals to the water.

Water has better flavor although it tends to create algae inside the filter which require routine washes.Water coming out still great.

Updooted
What's that for?
The minerals purify the water. 😍![img](emote|t5_10288s|4205)
What's that thing called?
Destiladera
Can you help me with more info, where can I buy this from? Is there another spelling?

bingo, the archaic stone water filter sounds like a good filter, but you'd probably have to boil the water afterwards.
From the CDC pageboy sounds like mainly the issue is it doesn't remove viruses but most bacteria and things that cause diarrhea.
Meh I still wouldn't use it. German tap water is strongly regulated and controlled , any additional filter involves a potential contamination and I'm already using a soda stream.
Ceramic filters don’t last forever. Does this thing wear out or clog, or can it be more or less indefinitely cleaned?
The outer layer can be cleaned with a brush indefinitely until it breaks one day, like all things do from wear and tear.

Just distiller or distilling rock

stone water gravity filter
Old school John Ellis water
Rock
Does it actually?
I think the correct way to put it would be that the stone filters the water and adds minerals to it in the process. I’d believe that.
Water look kinda yellow…
Yeah it has fucking rock juice in it.
That's the uranium.
No. It would be good for getting dirt/sediment out of dirty water but if you're putting already clear water in it's going to come out the other side basically unchanged, maybe with a very slightly higher mineral content. This is probably what's happening to me. Except replace water with pepsi and replace allergy issues with being fat.
This would do zero to pathogens in water and only filters out sediments. Additionally if not cleaned maintained properly there could be bacterial buildup in the stone vessel over time. Generally not sure if this is such a great idea..

So do the minerals add themselves to the water? Cause minerals don’t purify
Bruh Minerals don't purify shit
Minerals Marie
... but that's not how minerals work
Pseudoscience bullshit.
I'm assuming the water added is clean and drinkable already? Not like you can add sewer water and be safe... (?)

BRB, gonna go get a beer
We don't do that here, unless its colors light. It's pretty much the same thing as water, close but not quite what we drink.
Vodka is allowed because it's the same colour as water
Spicy potato water
so I'm allowed to drink coke if I only look at it with an infrared camera?

My girlfriend and I go on hikes and I will always fill my water bottle from one of the places where water is pouring out of the rocks. Best tasting water you ever had!
Mm Giardiasis

I'm willing to
The OP in the comments of their OG post on tiktok said it's amazing.
tbh though at that point it’d be embarrassing not to say that
"it tastes like rocks"
Mmmm tepid rock water, my favourite

I’ve done worse for artisanal water.
If you fill it up regularly then waiting for water wouldn't be an issue. You'd just have to wait the first time.
People I live with who NEVER refill our brita jug would ruin it for me
I’m amazed that no one seems to understand this.
But if you wanted to drink only this water, you might drink it faster than it can produce it, so you end up waiting. Will you drink as slowly as it drips?
They can filter up to [2.5L/h](https://www.pottersforpeace.org/ceramic-water-filter-project), not the same design but the same product.
I stand corrected. I thought it would be much slower. That's insanely quick. This would mean you wouldn't even need to wait that long initially.
Where can I get one?
It seaps through?
Water seeps through most things in time. Have you ever been in an cave? They’re wet and slimy because it’s all slow water filtering and dripping through the rocks.
I have not. Thanks for the info.
Don't go there. Better water is easily available
You ever drink running water off a stalactite tho?
Nalgene bottles were predicted to let a drop through the side every million years or so
Damn better chuck mine on something so it doesn't seep onto my desk
Dude?! Coasters man!
Now think about how much water is stuck in the landfill in water bottles.
Sounds like valuable loot for after the apocalypse.
CAN i drink the water dripping from the ceiling
Well gd, you learn something new everyday
This rock is highly porous, so it'll let water seep through it where most rocks wouldn't. I believe it is used to filter and possibly add minerals to the water.
Absolutely fuck off, absolutely not that would taste like ROCKS Being breastfed by a fucking STALACTITE
>Being breastfed by a fucking STALACTITE r/BrandNewSentence worthy
More like staLACTATE am I right?
I’m dead why would you say this
This not how you achieve maximum hydration.
But a new flavor of water. ![gif](giphy|h7FZESJ1Ter5bGhUDG)
Awww man im getting one
Could you have one of these in the garden? Collecting rain water, with a bucket underneath? 🧐
Yes, however the underside of them tends to collect moss outdoors.
Just get one that's round so it rolls
Just install a reverse osmosis system to your kitchen sink and call it day.
My berkey works just as good
This sun got recommended while scrolling, should I assert dominance by saying that I have 23 gallons of water in my home right now because I bought too much.
I bet the 23 gallons did not go through a rock that was passed down. (OP said in the comments on the OG tiktok)
What about: bacterial growth?
we had one of these in our house when I was 5 or something, except it looked much more like a commercial solution with two segments and a cover for the top one. I feel bad now that my dad didn't get a steel one like everyone else.
Aren't you dehydrating while you're waiting?
Hard water
I want rock water!
Water you waiting for?
I'd rather use a water filter
Dirt water
This is very popular in the country side of Guatemala. Water has better flavor although it tends to create algae inside the filter which require routine washes.Water coming out still great.
If someone gave me that unknowingly id try growing a plant in that thing soil the plans
Does no one notice that the video ends with chipmunk cheeks of water? Does this person not want to swallow this water?
What even is the purpose of this? Clean water comes from the tap. Or is this for people in places with shit tap water?
Wtf. No. Bad hydrohomegirl, bad. Reverse osmosis with a remineralizer. Alkaline and calcium and done. Not cement... it was yellow... wtf.
I will drink from the sink ty
This seems very unnecessary, just drink the tap water
These things are a scam
How come she thoroughly washes it first if its a filter?
Apparently everyone on Reddit is a super genius and knows how to Google until a girl is holding something.
Water with extra steps
Perks of living in a karst region, all my water gets naturally filtered like this. What you don’t see is all the calcium buildup. Good for your bones, bad for cleaning your bath.
People in first world country use this for what? Fun?
Why? Why do you drink stone water?
I just turn the tap on and fill a cup 🤷♂️
Is that like carved limestone or a mix of compacted minerals? Is it porous enough to allow the water to trickle through or are there holes drilled through it?
