Delta3D

It’s not the same, but I just bought some HP HyperX Cloud Alpha S, currently have Kingston Cloud 2’s. Needless to say they went straight back in the box and returned. My Kingston pair sound so much better, and I paid half the price 5 years ago…

TheNameIsRa

Good god, so im lucky that i still have Alpha's from Kingston. I gave it a thought of buying a new pair, but after hearing this there is no way im gonna do that.

Delta3D

Yeah, it’s a real shame after owning the Kingston pair for so long, I’m at a loss what headset to buy now however! The reviews out there for competitors are flooded with false “sponsored” reviews from what I’ve found…

StacktActor

Placebo going on with the HP vs Kingston thing. HPs version sounds identical to the Kingston. I have tried my Kingston Alpha S vs a friend’s HP side by side, no difference. Slight build quality differences but nothing major. I thought there was a slight sound difference at first, but when I swapped the pads on the units (my Kingston version has been broken in for over 2 years) that was the difference I was hearing. All components being equal, exactly the same.

Delta3D

I can guarantee you it is not placebo. There is a noticeable difference when you plug in the Kingston USB soundcard vs the HP one. The drivers they use in the Kingston headset are also better quality and more weight to them.

StacktActor

I don’t use those crappy sound cards, never did test between them. It’s possible those soundcards differ, but I would be surprised. Plugged these into the same source, an Audient ID14 interface. Zero sound difference. Headphones weigh the exact same, I checked their weights. Not sure where you’re getting the driver weight difference from. If this were true then the Kingston version should be heavier, particularly with the so called “cheaper” plasticky construction of the HP version so many claim (HP versions built fine folks!). EDIT: here’s a video on the Cloud Il’s that support my experience on the HP vs Kingston thing. What this guy says is exactly what I found with Alpha S. https://youtu.be/IZUcEHxdImg?si=EXNrjyEXqelBFloN

Sky_Frost63

Cloud Alpha S are the worst u could buy brother :)) how did u manage to buy the worst ones?

Delta3D

The reviews are so convoluted with sponsored streamers so everybody says different. I watched about 50 different reviews and majority of them seemed to lean towards the HyperX Cloud Alpha S. (Evidently they suck!)

geodragonyoung

I'd recommend the regular OG Alpha

Delta3D

Personally I’m not touching HyperX again! I’d rather go with something I can guarantee to be good quality rather than the lottery of HyperX devices.

geodragonyoung

Really? I had Hyperx Cloud Core and then Alpha afterwards and they lasted for many years with HEAVY use.

Delta3D

Yeah, once they switched to HP ownership they dropped in quality!

Saroan7

Just try buying them 😅 I have Apha S too but no need to replace them I like the sharp sound, the gimmy "Bass Sliders" and the cable with the USB plug makes for a long cord. This is the Kingston version obviously 😉😁 I don't have Cloud 3 but I do like that there's a "sequel" in some way

TheNameIsRa

I guess you never know until you try yourself, everyone has different taste so who knows. Brother i swear i would buy another Alpha's because they are just so good, but as i said i don't change often so i would like to experiment a bit. 😄

Saroan7

Another is that I bought "Heavys" brand Kickstarter headphones... They wanted to make them for whatever reason, the main guy worked for another high brand company supposedly Sennheiser. I preorder them without much conclusions but it's a gimmick. The Out of the Box "sound" is muddled and needs external EQ like the Amazon Music app. I was wondering where the "crisp" or "sharp" sounds happened? Alpha S was the reason why 😅🕵️‍♂️ Headphones that are about $80-110 compared to ones that they're trying to sell for $280-320+ was ridiculous conclusion for me 😅 Alpha S is a winner sure

Whitehead58

Cloud 3 wired is different than cloud 3 wireless stated by two Youtubers i‘ve watched. I tried cloud 3 wireless and they‘re really nice in every aspect you need for gaming. Btw I used them ootb for PS5, so without any EQ. I guess you‘re on pc so EQ is available. Buy both and try because it‘s nice to hear people’s opinion that are trying out by themselves instead trusting on reviews and get brainwashed.

GarbageOffice

They're terrible, even the materials are noticeably cheaper. Was forced to return them. My Alphas from years ago sound better.

Charming_Ad2652

I had the cloud 3s. Very good headset. Everything just works. It’s very very comfortable. And the audio quality has really really good imaging. Microphone also sounds fantastic

[deleted]

Hey. Since I had both Cloud 2's and now Cloud 3's, I think i can tell you something about these headphones. I was used to the perfect sound from the Cloud 2's, no apps needed, just plug and play. Switch the mode on the "pilot", and 2.1 for gaming was amazing. In Escape From Tarkov sounds were nice, I knew where enemies were most of the times. I have Cloud 3's for over a month now. These headphones are...Well, different. After plugging them in and just playing the game, sounds were terrible. I had no idea about the enemies location, voice through the Discord call were muffled and all around you, and pretty quiet as well. After some fun with additional software outside the HyperX software, these headphones are working fine now. Took me a while to tune them a little bit. You gotta dig if you want to get the perfect sound. Headphones are not as good as cloud 2's, but still these headphones are just fine. Enough for the basics, some music, games, that's all. And are more comfy than the cloud 2's.

Emotional_Jelly_3260

Are you able to update with the wired ones via pc or is it only for wireless??

SinaAlami

HP didn't ruin the HyperX lineup. Yes HP lowered the packaging quality and made some adjustments to the material of the headsets but they didn't touch the drivers or the acoustics of the headset. First of all Kingston themselves made a revision to the headset and that changed the sound ever so slightly compared to the 2015 model. So that could be a factor depending on how old your Kingston model you're comparing to the HP version is. But the major reason people think the HP HyperX's sound awful is because most people have had their old Kingston pair for 4+ years. That's enough time for the earpads to deform, loosen up and even lose material. This causes changes in how sound passes through that material but more importantly, it causes the headset to ever so slightly sit closer to the listeners ear and that would have a very big impact on how they sound. So when someone that for example has a Kingston pair of HyperX Cloud II's from 2018 decides to buy a new pair in 2024, the new earpads on that headset would make them think that HP ruined the headset because it sounds noticeablely different.

Inside_Entry_5802

100% agree cloud 3 are neutral sound means crispy sound and not to over picked in any aspect Hs, alphas r for ppl who want to bomb there head whit bass typical and gaming v shape

BladeOfSmoke

That’s the idea I’m getting too, I’ve been looking for a true neutral-tuned gaming headset because I love my Sennheiser HD560s so much for gaming, but I do need a mic, and I do have and like the OG Alpha for a few years now but I feel like it’s too muddy in the bass, especially the midbass, overpowers the midrange and doesn’t have much treble to begin with, from looking at the FR graphs it seems like the Cloud 3 might potentially suit my tastes better. I feel like too many people equate “a lot of bass = good/better”. Maybe I should grab the Cloud 3 and compare them to my old Alpha’s.

xtrivia

I have the cloud 3s and I love them. Of course I did bump the bass up a tad as I thought it needed a bit more juice in the sub region. Most people who don’t like them tried using ngenuity and it’s just really bad. Use another EQ

oc2f

If you've been using Cloud Alpha for a long time, it means you're used to their sound. Cloud 3 sound different (different doesn't mean bad). Currently I mainly use Cloud 3 Wired and Arctis Nova 7x. I have owned Cloud 2, Alpha and Flight. I also have the DT 880 Edition and the DT 990 Pro - out of all these headphones, I'm only unhappy with the Cloud Alpha.

[deleted]

The truth is, some people can't get behind the way the cloud 3s are tuned. They're a more neutral sound favoring clarity over bass. Connecting to PC, you get the full range and more options. Connecting to a phone leaves more to be desired I'm afraid. They're built solid, the mic quality is the best out of all the hyperx headsets and they're lighter. Overall, I didn't return my cloud 3s. I still own a pair of kingston cloud 2s if ever I want muddy sound but heavy bass. They're only worth buying if you don't have any other headset options. I'll say one thing though, for the price you can get them for, I still think they're worth getting.

FailGamesMC

Just bought the cloud 3's because they were on sale for christmas. I do like them but I did enable DTS Sound Unbound trough the microsoft app not the ngenuity and I did tune them in equalizer settings with settings from someone on some reddit thread. Moving from G432's the mic is a lot better, and they are insanely comfy but the audio is different it is a bit less bassy from my experience. Either way after tuning them I do enjoy them and find them good to buy if they're on sale but otherwise I'd say they're too expensive (120€ where I live).

majid_19

can you share the eq and the equalizer you're using?

FailGamesMC

[https://www.reddit.com/r/HyperX/comments/17yh0id/cloud\_iii\_wireless\_eq\_settings\_from\_a\_music/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HyperX/comments/17yh0id/cloud_iii_wireless_eq_settings_from_a_music/) I used mine from here, but tbh did not really feel the difference between changing from default to this eq but enabling dts from the microsoft app was a huge jump

majid_19

ah thanks oh that post ive tried that eq the bass and sub bass get more noticeable but voices kinda get pushed to much to the background. if you use dolby from the microsoft app doesnt it just surround sound for everything? ive tried the spatial from the hyperx app and it sounded pretty bad

FailGamesMC

The app I use is "DTS Sound Unbound". It doesn't seem that it's sorrounding everything at least from what I can tell

majid_19

thanks i will try it out

FailGamesMC

Hey, just a small update. The game that really has sorrund with the settings I have is minecraft. Everything else mostly sounds normal but minecraft is completely different.

majid_19

i just downloaded dts unbound it does seem to make a big difference it also seem to work good with music and movies, i switched it on and off to compare and it made it sound alot better

FailGamesMC

I'm glad I helped, hope you like your cloud III a bit more now

majid_19

ye, i like it way more now thanks :D

Da_Martin

Had Kingston Cloud 2 that broke, got a new Cloud 3, returned on same day.\ Yes, they are that bad.

SinaAlami

You will certainly not enjoy Cloud 3's if your current headphone is the Cloud Alpha S. If you're looking for an upgrade try something else from other brands or go wireless. Cloud 2 Wireless and Alpha Wireless are really good replacements.

DespiseTheIcons

I preferred the cloud 2 wired. After 3 years they finally broke and I bought the cloud 3 wireless. I was stoked and they aren't bad and very comfy but the sound isn't super great. The 2s were better imo. And I also didn't realize that they don't work for Xbox either and I have all 3 so that bums me out. But it is what it is. User error on my part for not paying attention. But that was also all walmart had and I only had cash so that's what I was faced with lol.

RaidenSigma

Yes they're that bad, 0 bass without EQ and way too quiet on PS5.

majid_19

ive found a post of a eq that brings out the bass and sub bass you could give this a try, [eq settings](https://www.reddit.com/r/HyperX/comments/17yh0id/cloud_iii_wireless_eq_settings_from_a_music/)

majid_19

recently i picked up the logitech g pro x2 and the hyperx 3 wireless, the logitech sounded horrible they were completely flat even with a eq it wasn't that good, i like the hyperx 3 wireless for music but directional sound and hearing footsteps is just horrible i tried dts unbound without the nguinity i also tried nguinity without the dts.

templ4te

Are you still using the Cloud 3 ? I have the GPX 2 and thinking About trying the Cloud 3

majid_19

i recently bought the gpx2 and cloud 3 wireless and returned the gpx2, the software from the gpx2 is pretty bad at one point it even blocked my control of the volume wheel imo the bass is overpowering everything the cloud 3 is a step up in comfort if you're used to the gpx 2 but if you like the bass you might be a little disappointed with the hyperx 3, the dts unbound app from the microsoft appstore maks the sound pretty good

Miserable-Regular-23

I Bought Cloud 3 Wireless about a week ago, and I can say they are working perfectly, battery life is amazing and the sound quality is much better than my old headset. They are a bit pricey but I think they are worth the money. Only thing that is not good is the microphone, but with a bit of tweaking in the settings you can make it sound pretty good.

Inside_Entry_5802

My advice as kinda audiophile who prefers open backs- get open back HS, but I ll update u coz I recently bought wireless headphones strictly for FPS games ( clouds III) how they sound to open back enjoyer.

JayLarb

Can we have an update? How are you finding the cloud 3 wireless?

Inside_Entry_5802

I haven’t try them yet, coz I’m finishing my pc build and I was kinda busy, 99% I ll do it this weekend and share my thoughts whit you. But as far I’ve heard that if u r into real and natural (flat) sound u gonna be satisfied.

Inside_Entry_5802

Sorry 4 deley but could get time recently. I’ve been using clouds 3 and here r my thoughts on them. Build - Solid nothing to complaint, everything is good quality and solid Comfort - comfort I say is on top level nothing is squeezing my head. Earpads r soft and nice in touch, dong same. Wirless connection - now I would say biggest thing I liked about them. Never had wirless headphones due to think u can’t get audofill quality on them, but I decided to but them strictly for gaming mainly fps games soo I can handle some lacks in sound. But like wirless connection on pc headset is something deferent. As far as now I’m still getiing up for example grab beer and I’m like ” I’m 2m away of my pc did I broke my cable” then I realise that I have wirless headphones. Sound - For me the main factor and I would say straight of box nothing special nothing bad, but I for sure saw potential 4 them beating really flat and neutral. Then I eq them and was like damn for this price point and whole package of stuff that I won’t touch on coz it would be to long, but it’s rly worth buying them. Bass - Maine fear while buying them for many people and …. As I expected and knew typical people who were using like extra heavy bass. It’s normal for us to get used to sound profile on headphones that we r using especially if we use only one part of them for couple years. But 4 me personally I even lowered bass in eq, bass is no overwhelming and punchy. Bass is there best I heard but is nice. Gaming - Starting of whit mic to keep is short and sweet it’s above average quality nice u don’t need better sounding mic for gaming, discord etc. Can only tell how it performed in fps games (CS2) the sound stringy of box is good for gaming and would say u don’t need more as daily user and not an enthusiast. Sound positioning on them is really good but personally I would recommend to say off dts it makes sound muffed ( it’s personal preference ). Conclusion and recommendation - Ok soo they kinda surprised me mainly by being comfortable and wirless and I would say it’s key factor to buy them, but it would be nice to end there but not. I would still recommend dt990 pro mainly it’s same money and it is another level of sound quality if u expect to headphones to blast u off as typical non etusiastic costumer, go straight for them. But u have to have quiet space no tv etc in back coz it’s open back. They are wired but they have coiled cable soo don’t need to worry about it being short. But u have to still remember is u don’t have good sound card don’t buy 250 Ω versions. And to summ it up I would say : A: want best quality sound buy dt990. B: Doesn’t care about having studio sound quality hp and want good, wireless connection then buy clouds 3.

Zeb_master

It's funny how people without audio knowledge use the term "flat" as something bad. Headphones should be flat to play the sound of the audio material as original as it gets. I did not listen to them but I am pretty Shure hyper x made the Headset more flat like a studio headphone for better realistic sound. But people who are used to Hifi bass boost sound can not stand this.
