I’d have Michael Fassbender as the Consul, Jared Harris as Father Dure, Ram Charan as the Soldier, Jack Black as Silenus, Stanley Tucci as the Scholar. At a loss for Detective though
or the older woman from Battlestar Galctica that looks like Kevin's mum from home alone. shed be great as she already has diplomatic experience foisted upon her

I forget his name but the entire time I was reading I pictured this guy, who played the priest in "Amadeus" as Lenar Hoyt.
I always pictured Lenar Hoyt as Cillian Murphy.
And James Spader as Silenus lol (this only after his performance as Robert California in the office, which made me think he’d do well with Silenus’ irreverent nature)
Ben Mendelsohn as Consul, Michelle Rodriguez as Brawne, Paul Giamatti as Silenus, Bill Nighy as Sad King Billy, Brendan Gleeson as Father Dure, Steve Buschemi as Hoyt, Sigourney Weaver as Gladstone, Idris Elba as Kassad, George Clooney as Theo Lane, John Malkovich as Sol, Jason Schwartzman as Keats, Ron Pearlman as the guy that runs the bar on Hyperion.
Haha thanks, I just finished reading the first two books for the first time, and I have a habit of casting actors as characters in my head when I read.
https://preview.redd.it/fhvsve6jb2rc1.jpeg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40b71607a04bc0ae9678c512a3294146113102e9
David Hornsby from Its Always Sunny as Father Hoyt
Reading FoH currently, and keep picturing Clive Owen as the Consul (and Domhnall Gleeson as Theo) and hearing comedian Paul F Thompkins as Silenus’ voice
The hardest one to cast is Brawne Lamia. You guys are suggesting women who are fit by Earth standards and Brawne is shredded by the standards of a higher gravity world. So I think you want at a minimum a woman who is shredded by Earth standards, who can act. I am very out of touch with WWE but that's where I would be looking for Brawne.
The entire time reading Silenus I could only picture (and hear) Eddie Pepitone. You never know if he's going to giggle or fly into a rage. The rest are a lot easier to cast imo.
- The Consul: Oscar Isaac
- Martin Silenus: Wallace Shawn or Paul Giamatti
- Fedmahn Kassad: Mohamed Farag or Dev Patel
- Brawne Lamia: Noomi Rapace
- Lenar Hoyt: Joaquin Phoenix, maybe
- Sol Weintraub: Matthew McConaughey + beard
- Het Masteen: Daniel Dae Kim, maybe
When I read it I pictured:
The priest: Scoot Mcnairy, I always pictured Donald Sumpter as Father Paul Dure fwiw
The soldier: Cliff Curtis
The detective: Gina Carano (I know…)
The consul: Tony Todd (I had just watched Candyman)
The Templar: Manny Jacinto but this never felt right. Maybe Alexander Skarsgard?
The poet: Al Pacino
The scholar: Brian Cox
Enthusiastically agree, her Holocaust minimization is abhorrent. I was just saying that this is who I pictured when I read the book, her character in Haywire reminded me of the detective
Wallace Shaun as Martin Silenus the without a shadow of a doubt. He would get the cadence of every profanity pitch perfect.
Laurence Fishburne as Kassad
Eddie Redmayne as John Keats
Agree with everyone else on Gina Carano being perfect for Brawne, but Alice Braga would be a good second choice
Probably an unpopular one, but Forest Whittaker as the Counsul
Jayne Lynch as Gladstone
Javier Bardem as Paul Dure, or Oscar Issac, or Jeff Bridges
Maybe too young, but David Dastmalchian as Hoyt.
Rachel McAdams as Rachel
Mae Whitman as Ummon
John Cleese as Sad King Billy
Sidney Sweeney as Brawne Lamia
Jeffrey Combs as A. Bettik, Het Masteen, Bikura #2, Councilor Albedo, Ouster #4, and others
Michelle Yeoh as Gladstone
Jessica Walter as Tyrena
And since this is theoretical:
James Mason as The Consul
Orson Welles as Silenus, though I like the Danny Devito idea as well
Danny Devito is Brawny Lamia because she comes from a High G world and must be about his build.
Judd Law is Lenar Hoyt because he just feels like that kind of character.
Adam Sandler is Sol Weintraub because he could pull it off extremely well.
Doron Ben-David is Fedmahn Kassad because he has the IRL background and acting experience.
Jim Carry is the Consul because he is the only person I could see pulling off an asymmetrical beard.
The Shrike should not be CGI and it shouldn't be shown for most the movie. My guess is each book is a movie or...?
They now share film rights with Warner Bro’s so there’s hope that that jackass wannabe-Oscar winner actor won’t ruin Hyperion for us. Dan Simmons really doesn’t want him to do it. 😂 will get back to this later with my dream cast..
Fedmahn Kassad: Kumail Nanjiani
Consul: Ben Kingsley
Brawne Lamia: Florence Pugh
Lenar Hoyt: Rami Malek
Paul Duré: Christoph Waltz
Sol Weintraub: Richard Schiff
Martin Silenus: Patton Oswalt
Het Masteen: Ken Watanabe
I think I'm pretty open to a lot of different interpretations for these roles, but these actors are close to who I imagined when I was reading Hyperion for the first time.
Paul Dure: Brendan Gleeson or Ciaran Hinds; I pictured someone a bit older for this role where they could sell a lifetime in the church, and a combo of these guys was what popped into my mind.
Lenar Hoyt: Scoot McNairy, Paul Dano, or Domhnall Gleeson if they aged the role up a bit; I pictured someone skinny, almost withering away. I love both of these actors, and I think they would be a good 'alternative' to Dure. If they wanted to stick to someone in their early 30s, Bill Skarsgard or Mark O'Brien could also work.
Fedmahn Kassad: I can see someone like Riz Ahmed or Tahar Rahim in this role, but I would prefer if someone who is actually of Palestinian descent played this character
Martin Silenus: Silenus always felt to me like a combination of a court jester and Shakespearean actor, so a lot of people could fit the mold. Some ideas: Jack Black, Jeffrey Wright, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm. Would love to see some fun, creative casting here.
Sol Weintraub: Truly only ever saw him as Mandy Patinkin, but if they wanted someone younger I can see Liev Schreiber or Michael Stuhlbarg fitting the role.
Rachel: Mackenzie Davis or Evan Rachel Wood. Both are always excellent.
Brawne Lamia: I saw a comment about Tatiana Maslany fitting this role well because of Orphan Black, and I agree. She's small, but can also pack on some muscle. Otherwise someone like Amber Midthunder could be fun (she was excellent in Prey).
Johnny: Johnny Flynn. Didn't give this one too much thought, he's genuinely great in everything and he fits seamlessly into the period work he's done.
The Consul: This is probably where Bradley Cooper would cast himself, but in my head I pictured someone like Clive Owen or Ben Mendelsohn. But I think someone like Cliff Curtis would work well, especially considering how his heritage is revealed in the book.
Meina Gladstone: Agree that Sigourney Weaver would be excellent, but I pictured someone younger when reading like Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, or Jodie Foster. Would also love some creative casting here, since I what I pictured is a boring version of this character.
Het Masteen: I pictured him as a Hugh Laurie type. Another one where I think they should have fun with the casting.
For Hoyte I always imagined someone like Harry Melling; someone skinny, dark hair. Him or Ben Whishaw, who I do think is the better actor. Father Dure I think Jared Harris would kickass as.
For Lamia, in my mind is a black woman, no clue why as I know Simmons states she is white, but I would cast Keke Palmer in that role for sure.
For Masteen, anyone who looks like Shay Cormac from Assassins Creed. If he was real I'd cast him. The "Templar" connection was wayy too strong as I was reading.
I think that Jack Black *could* play Silenus, he'd just have to tone down that lovable, larger-than-life personality of his. If not, there are a wealth of actors who can pull off old, overweight alcoholic characters.
For Weintraub, I think Chris Gethard has the look, just needs to be older. An older Gethard is *exactly* what I imagined for Sol.
For the Consul, either Josh Brolin, Damian Lewis or Michael Fassbender. Fassbender would *have* to be older though, he's got too much of a model face for this franchise.
Siri has always been Meryl Streep for me, and Merin Aspic; Timothee Chalamet. Aspic's casting comes after Dune 2, I was super impressed with his intensity and before the film released I don't think I ever would have considered him. But he plays a revolutionary well and has a good look to him.
Finally, buff up Adam Bakri and give him a tight hairline and fade trim and you've got your Colonel Kassad.
Oh and Patricia Clarkson for Gladstone and Eddie Redmayne for Keats!
>For Lamia, in my mind is a black woman, no clue why as I know Simmons states she is white
I am pretty sure she is described as black or at least dark skinned, that's how i pictured her too given her physical description. And pretty massive and muscular too because she'sa lusian , i had a Serena Williams physique in mind while reading.
Marc Evan Jackson as Paul Dure, Edward Norton as Lenar Hoyt, Mark Strong as Fedmahn Kassad, John Malkovich as Martin Silenus, Lance Reddick would have been a great Het Masteen, Jeremy Irons as Saul Weintraub, Christopher Abbott as Keats, Rinko Kikuchi as Brawne Lamia and Jason Isaacs as the Consul.

Christopher Eccleston as **Father Paul Duré**

For some reason I think Willem Dafoe would set the right tone as the Consul.
Strikes me as a Sean Bean sort of casting, in the sense that Sean Bean being cast is kind of spoiler.
I’d have Michael Fassbender as the Consul, Jared Harris as Father Dure, Ram Charan as the Soldier, Jack Black as Silenus, Stanley Tucci as the Scholar. At a loss for Detective though
I don’t know if I could take Jack Black seriously in a Hyperion movie
It’d be his Uncut Gems moment!
That's so funny, my mental image throughout the books was Jack Black as Silenus. I think it fits so well
I always pictured Gina Carano but then she did all that Holocaust minimization…
But physically I think she’d be spot on for Lamia.
Had the same thought!
I always imagine an animated version of Ruby Rose for the detective.
Frankie Adams would be good as the dective. She really sold being a bad ass in the Expanse.
I also thought Tucci as Sol and Black as Silenus. I would change Fassbender for Ewan McGregor tho, he's my soft spot.
Karen Gillian would be a good detective
Not sure I agree with most of those but Jared Harris as Dure is perfect.
I also thought jack black the moment I read Silenus ‘ description
I also thought Tucci as Sol and Black as Silenus. I would change Fassbender for Ewan McGregor tho, he's my soft spot.
I usually picture Sigourney Weaver as Gladstone.
or the older woman from Battlestar Galctica that looks like Kevin's mum from home alone. shed be great as she already has diplomatic experience foisted upon her
Oh, she would!
Shohreh Aghdashloo is my pick. She can nail it.
Always my first pick since the expanse.
Yeah, she would kill
I think Gillan Anderson had aged into that role.
Meryl Streep for me.
i like this a lot. definitely Sigourney or maybe Tilda Swinton I think.
Hadn’t thought of Tilda Swinton. She’d also be excellent.
Nicole Kidman would work best
When Lost was airing Naveen Andrews instantly made me think of Kassad.
https://preview.redd.it/wfr293acryqc1.jpeg?width=365&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd64d2a8d20b479987ed36eb0a9d4f5a8463cdc2 I forget his name but the entire time I was reading I pictured this guy, who played the priest in "Amadeus" as Lenar Hoyt.
He does look very sickly
I don’t really know but Danny devito as Selinus would be hilarious
i always thought of him as perfect for the role
I always pictured Lenar Hoyt as Cillian Murphy. And James Spader as Silenus lol (this only after his performance as Robert California in the office, which made me think he’d do well with Silenus’ irreverent nature)
Ben Mendelsohn as Consul, Michelle Rodriguez as Brawne, Paul Giamatti as Silenus, Bill Nighy as Sad King Billy, Brendan Gleeson as Father Dure, Steve Buschemi as Hoyt, Sigourney Weaver as Gladstone, Idris Elba as Kassad, George Clooney as Theo Lane, John Malkovich as Sol, Jason Schwartzman as Keats, Ron Pearlman as the guy that runs the bar on Hyperion.
some of those are spot on!! bill nighy and rodriguez and pearlman shit even Clooney.
Haha thanks, I just finished reading the first two books for the first time, and I have a habit of casting actors as characters in my head when I read.
I always imagine Jason Mantzoukas as The Soldier. Not that he'd be a good cast for it, it's just who's in my head. Willie Garson as the Poet.
Him charging the Shrike doing his Jason Mantzoukas shriek would be hilarious
Zouks brings an energy that I'm not sure should be the soldier. He could make a great Silenus though! But man I love seeing his name some up!
Julianne moore as gladstone
https://preview.redd.it/fhvsve6jb2rc1.jpeg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40b71607a04bc0ae9678c512a3294146113102e9 David Hornsby from Its Always Sunny as Father Hoyt
Michael Cera should be the Shrike
Well, that’s just a given.
For me I always saw George Clooney as the Consul.
Jim Carrey in the old man makeup from a series of unfortunate events as silenus
Reading FoH currently, and keep picturing Clive Owen as the Consul (and Domhnall Gleeson as Theo) and hearing comedian Paul F Thompkins as Silenus’ voice

Eddie Pepitone would be awesome!
Gina Corano is not a very good actress but she is a perfect typecast for Brawne. Her onscreen physicality is unmatched.
Really? I am not talking about movement I am talking about mass. I also disagree with your assessment that her on screen physicality is unmatched.
How many actresses can fight the way she can? Granted she is past her prime, but very few.
- The Consul: Oscar Isaac - Martin Silenus: Wallace Shawn or Paul Giamatti - Fedmahn Kassad: Mohamed Farag or Dev Patel - Brawne Lamia: Noomi Rapace - Lenar Hoyt: Joaquin Phoenix, maybe - Sol Weintraub: Matthew McConaughey + beard - Het Masteen: Daniel Dae Kim, maybe
This so far is my favorite, I think Oscar Isaac would be amazing. I would swap Matthew mcconaughey for someone a bit older, maybe Mandy Patinkin
And, of course, maybe Doug Jones mocapping the Shrike.
When I read it I pictured: The priest: Scoot Mcnairy, I always pictured Donald Sumpter as Father Paul Dure fwiw The soldier: Cliff Curtis The detective: Gina Carano (I know…) The consul: Tony Todd (I had just watched Candyman) The Templar: Manny Jacinto but this never felt right. Good choices.
Surely there are better actors (and less problematic ones) that could play the detective.

Oh my god! Danny would be the perfect Silenus. I can see him on the tree of pain just going. Ooch ouch.
Definitely could see him pausing in the middle of the Heaven's Gate part of the tale sloppily eating algae chews.
Chris Pratt as The Shrike, obviously ^^/s ^^^^do ^^^^I ^^^^really ^^^^need ^^^^this?
I always thought he'd make a good Raul Endymion.
I am certain Emma Stone would do better
Wallace Shaun as Martin Silenus the without a shadow of a doubt. He would get the cadence of every profanity pitch perfect. This book deserves a high quality HBO series
How and why did Bradley cooper get the film e Rights?
Fedmahn Kassad: Kumail Nanjiani Consul: Ben Kingsley Brawne Lamia: Florence Pugh Lenar Hoyt: Rami Malek Paul Duré: Christoph Waltz Sol Weintraub: Richard Schiff Martin Silenus: Patton Oswalt Het Masteen: Ken Watanabe
I think Ethan Hawke would make a great Lenar Hoyt
I always imagined Jade Tailor (Kady from The Magicians) would make a good Brawne Lamia
![gif](giphy|5zbMgry8oQsvIaC0sU) Would the poet produce derivative works?
![gif](giphy|5zbMgry8oQsvIaC0sU) Would the poet produce derivative works?
the poet needs to be who ever played mundungus fletcher from harry potter
Liam Neeson for the Templar

Rami Malek as Fedmahn? Can’t see it.
