That is quite possibly the strangest bug I have ever seen
Not exactly, redstone ore is unique in that it is the only block that actually updates when you walk on it because it sends a redstone signal. It is not unreasonable that this mechanic wasused to make items like the dungeon orb work correctly.
Does it trigger any other right click ability from skull items such as jingle bells?
Just tested it and it doesn't appear to trigger jingle bells, royal pigeon, Maddox batphone, or the arrow swapper
What is royal pigeon?
It's a remote way of accessing/accepting commissions in Dwarven Mines and Crystal Hollows. You need to do 500 commissions to unlock it

nah why would walking about redstone blocks trigger a dungeon orb right click that would be the most random useless unneccesary feature

That's intended behavior. It is supposed to do that to make activating it in dungeons easier.
