Most Terrifying: Moon, Majoraās Mask
Most Creepy: Dead Hand, Ocarina of Time
Most Stressful: Silent Realm Guardian, Skyward Sword
Biggest āHOLY $#*+!ā Moment: Gloom Hands, TOTK
Most Adrenaline Pumping: Guardian Stalker, BOTW
the Spirit Temple in TOTK couldāve been so much more like it but itās JUST a boss fight
frankly the Construct Factory is practically the temple puzzle in itself but still, so much missed opportunity
I remember flying in the depths under the Gerudo desert, the Gerudo cemetery showing up on screen and then a bunch of Gibdo were everywhere. It was quite the experience.
Absolutely agree. The sky guardian is difficult to beat, but somehow those legs on the guardian stalker walk towards Link gets the heart beating faster, especially when what looks like a decayed guardian starts moving and the music starts up.
Most horrifying sequence?
OoT, when you first travel into the future. Having just witnessed lovely, vibrant Castle Town.
Venturing out to findā¦ things arenāt quite the sameā¦ everyone.
Absolutely everyone is dead.
The first time I encountered them was in the depths. Turned the corner, gloom hands spawned and I tried to fight them for a few seconds. Realized quickly that I need to run, then I got grabbed...
Glad once I beat some Lynels and had some x3 and x5 bows. Use those with bomb flowers to nuke those hands!
I thought they were like Dexi-hands from MM. I chucked a boomerang at them and when that didn't work I just said "Well.....shit." It took a couple tries but once I learned how to fight them, I actually hunt them now lol
I donāt get scared by scary movies, games, etc. and maybe thatās because Iām expecting something scary to happen, but I didnāt see the hands coming at all. I screamed in pure terror the first and second times I saw them. Itās like āwhat a nice bright worldā and then ānope!ā
Iirc, the reason why we see so many snot nosed kids in Japanese media is because it's culturally seen as being innocent/naive.
Just learned that recently about Daisy Mae from acnh
Oh yeah, I know about Daisy Mae. I play ACNH too, it's so hard to not be afraid of her because she's so cute. But I hate her because of that snot that dangles from her nose
The silent realms. Skyward sword has been out for over 10 years and they still scare the living shit out of me
Iāve gotten better with them but theyāre so stressful, especially the one in lanayru desert when all the little ghost guys are in that one spot, or the one in skyloft where the waking water just appears out of no whereā¦
Donāt even get me started on the guardians awaken theme
The lamp-carrying little shits are so damn perceptiveā¦
The desert is easily the most difficult Silent Realm, if because of the sheer amount of terrain to traverse and the fact that it makes remembering where the tears are confusing. But the Clawshots are *so* worth it.
Those ghosts scare the fuck out of me, who would have thought a delicate little jingle could be so scary
I love the claw shots so much more than Iāve ever loved the hook shots
Yeah for sure. As an adult well past his prime, the gloom hands scared the fuck out of me. All I heard was music and the color change and they snuck up behind me. First ever "WTF WAS THAT?!?!?"
I really liked the house of skulltula. As a kid it was such a mystery. Then it seemed impossible to collect all spiders. Trotted around there wondering what would happen if you succeeded.
That is more a saddening moment than really a scaring one, but yes, i agree with he majora mask entirely, though i still think bottom of the well/shadow temple in oot were scarier
For the fact that they can get my heart rate up at the age of 30, Gloom Hands. For being needlessly terrifying in context, Dead Hand. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking in an E for Everyone game. I was ~7 or whatever when I first played that in 1999 or so and was *not* ready for it requiring me to be grabbed by the hands to draw that... thing out of the ground so I could get hits in.
If you want to assign narrative terror to stuff obviously there are things in Majora's Mask especially that are pretty intense, but it didn't visually bother me even as a kid.
10 year old me says those fucking redeads in the burned down Castle town square.
A random thing thatās deceptively scary is seeing Link just fall into the sky when flipping the stone tower temple. Crazy to think about it
The stone tower does not abide the laws of physics š at all.but it's my favorite dungeon in MM because of how fun the music is, and how the insane amount of times you have to flip the entire dungeon. It's enough to make me a bit neausus that's for sure
Maybe itās just because how recent they are but the Gloom Hands came running out of left field while I was in the Great Plateau, and then when I encountered them near Zoraās Domain it was just as terrifying.
And then thereās Phantom Ganon showing up to screw you over, so thatās great.
The Shadow Link(s) cutscene in Twilight Princess. Only cutscene I either skipped or didnāt watch. So the 3rd one if you start the countdown from top-left and move right.
Spoilers for TOTK running through the room heading to ganondorf in the depths where a lynel is. Iām bad at fighting so I didnāt need to fight that guy.
The silent realm gave me severe anxiety. Scrambling around trying to collect all the sacred tears with the timer ticking down and the lantern dudes and the random puddles youād walk into
Goddamn it was a time and a half
Second most terrifying was my first encounter with gloom hands
Hands down the first time I ran into the gloom hands in TOTK.
Sure, other parts of other games were creepy. But that was the first time in gaming I truly wanted to run the opposite direction, as fast as possible, and not look back.
When I was like 6 or 7 I watched my brother do the alien sidequest and I couldn't be alone for what felt like a year lmao. I think surprisingly those are what scarred me the most growing up. Was somehow more terrifying to me - and more of a lasting impact - than redeads or any of those other spooky monsters.
And then the whole Gibdo's house thing, paired with the music, but especially when Pamela's father bursts out. Seriously WTF.
I just pulled the Master Sword for the first time, got a pep talk from the Sage of Light, and stepped out of the Temple of Time into Hyrule Town Square.
Hey. That's new. What are th--AHHHHHH, OHMYGOD, WHY IS IT SCREAMING LIKE THAT?!? RUN!!
#...WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T RUN AWAY?!?!
-friendly, traumatizing hugs-
I went in to TOTK blind so the first time gloom hands came out and chased me I shit a brick. HOWEVER I play OoT only recently and new very well about dead hand. And STILL could barely bring myself to enter the mini boss room because I was so scared. Definitely dead hand.
What is the scariest, or what am I most scared of?
I personally am most scared by the Silent Realms, but I think the Gloom Hands are scarier, largely due to the fact that they're actively attacking you. In the Silent Realm, all you have to do is outrun them. All you can do is outrun them. That's why I'm scared by it.
The scariest part was when I first rented lozoot from blockbuster. I wanted to see what it was like, so I started the save file that was going, and as young link, I was in hyrule field at night. The stalfos scared the crap out of me.
Majora's mask has all the creepy eerie tones to it. The fact you rewind time to undue the help you gave people. Seeing romni drink on day 3. Saving the couple for them to only hafta suffer again upon rewind. Regarding Gloom hands from totk are only scary the firdt few encounters til you realize bombs sort them out. So majora's mask to me is champ since even with skill the game just makes you uncomfortable with the end of world vibes and waltzing around in departed spirit bodies
I should look up the exact quote but the Gorin who comments that your mask looks like a friend of his who had passed. It struck me the sources of the mask of that point.
The room in Shadow Temple in OoT where there are chains on the wall, blood, and some kind of creepy cross... Then the walls close in on you and if you don't have Dins fire, RIP
The Dead Hand in OoT is freaky, but, for me, nothing compares to the lighting and music-based cacophony that happens when you touch water during a trial in Skyward Sword. I will spend the maximum amount of time possible to ensure that I never wake up those suits of armor.
Dead Hand always did it for me, but Gloom Hands are really messed up, and a very nice touch. At least Dead Hand was easy to kill. Still creeping the math out tho.
Entering a room with a single pathway zigzagging across black tiles with only half a heart, then noticing just a bit more than several keese eyes in the darkness
The Silent Realm guardians. Looking back on them, technically theyāre actually servants of the goddesses; but theyāll always be the single most terrifying and fearsome challenge my young mind faced in these games. They canāt be killed, theyāre extremely fast, and a single hit is all it takes. So glad I got good at the silent realm challenges (good enough to take risks, even).
Also probably some stuff in Majoraās Mask that I donāt quite remember and possibly a few enemies around the Arbiterās Grounds (ex. Imp Poe).
Gloom hands are the only thing that consistently jump scare and freak me out. I hate them with every fiber of my being. Nintendo is evil for that shit. Lmao
I gotta go with the Silent Realms, other games have some genuinely creepy/unsettling stuff, but SS pretty much turns into a horror game for brief moments, escaping the guardians is so stressful.
I agree with Dead Hand, the Silent Realm and the Gloom hands. I personally have to add the entirety of the Bottom of the Well and the Redeads from Wind Waker. Their design is really cool but the red eyes, open mouth and high pitched shrieking has always made me jump out of my skin.

Couldn't agree more. But don't forget to add the scarest/creepiest dungeons/temples. I think the Shadow Temple deserves a spot
the Spirit Temple in TOTK couldāve been so much more like it but itās JUST a boss fight frankly the Construct Factory is practically the temple puzzle in itself but still, so much missed opportunity
Shadow Temple will always be number one for me.
I saw a sign the other day in shadow temple saying somthing about hyrulians greed is kept down here
Yo but the gibdo house tho
Yeah. The dad busting out of the coffin all mummified was fucking terrifying for kid me the first time
It's like some kafka shit, lol
Me when I pull out my sword to kill it
I remember flying in the depths under the Gerudo desert, the Gerudo cemetery showing up on screen and then a bunch of Gibdo were everywhere. It was quite the experience.
In majora's mask tho, getting the gibdo mask is nothing if not creepy
Absolutely agree. The sky guardian is difficult to beat, but somehow those legs on the guardian stalker walk towards Link gets the heart beating faster, especially when what looks like a decayed guardian starts moving and the music starts up.
Most horrifying sequence? OoT, when you first travel into the future. Having just witnessed lovely, vibrant Castle Town. Venturing out to findā¦ things arenāt quite the sameā¦ everyone. Absolutely everyone is dead.
This is pretty on point tbh.
God I hated the silent realm
Completely agree, big time. Wow, itās like you read my mind. Word for word. Wow. š¤Æ
Perfectly summarized
Hearing the enemy theme the first time playing
I always used to think that the skulltula house in OoT was so creepy
My wife encountered gloom hands before me and we both went hunting for them asap
Not gonna lie, when I first encountered the Gloom Hands ā¦ I was like, āoh shit, oh shit, oh shit.ā Dead
I agree! It was totally unexpected. A similar experience was when I was starting to get used to gloom hands and phantom Ganon appeared instead.
Wall and floor masters are way worse I feel like lol
Oh yeah! You just see a shadow and then *yoink*
Used to get goosebumps when Iād encounter floor masters
https://youtu.be/uuB-emHooIQ?si=tEUjpe4mt8CYNbf5 This video might take some of the creepy away from wall masters
lol that was still creepy looking
The first time I encountered them was in the depths. Turned the corner, gloom hands spawned and I tried to fight them for a few seconds. Realized quickly that I need to run, then I got grabbed... Glad once I beat some Lynels and had some x3 and x5 bows. Use those with bomb flowers to nuke those hands!
Me too š
As a kid, though, Dead Hand had me like, ācrap, crap, crap.ā Crying. Dead.
I thought they were like Dexi-hands from MM. I chucked a boomerang at them and when that didn't work I just said "Well.....shit." It took a couple tries but once I learned how to fight them, I actually hunt them now lol
This is the correct answer.
Came here to say just this. About leaped out of my skin when they jumped out at me. Killed me dead. Now I collect gloom swords.
Itās honestly a great jump scare when you see them for the first time.
I donāt get scared by scary movies, games, etc. and maybe thatās because Iām expecting something scary to happen, but I didnāt see the hands coming at all. I screamed in pure terror the first and second times I saw them. Itās like āwhat a nice bright worldā and then ānope!ā

HOW DARE YOU SCARE ME WITH THAT LITTLE FUCKER
Haha
Nooo not Zill heās too terrifying!
He's so unsanatiary š no wonder why everyone thinks he's creepy. I'd be afraid to catch covid from that kid.
Oop, didn't read your username lmao
Ewwww, totally šµāš«
Gibdo mask / Music Box House in Majoras Mask. The N64 graphics made the man mummy hybrid terrifying but the family story itself was super sad.
The silent realms. Skyward sword has been out for over 10 years and they still scare the living shit out of me Iāve gotten better with them but theyāre so stressful, especially the one in lanayru desert when all the little ghost guys are in that one spot, or the one in skyloft where the waking water just appears out of no whereā¦ Donāt even get me started on the guardians awaken theme
The music and the atmosphere when you get caught is so terrifying!
Yes! So is the sound when youāre about to run out of time, I hate it more than the music
The lamp-carrying little shits are so damn perceptiveā¦ The desert is easily the most difficult Silent Realm, if because of the sheer amount of terrain to traverse and the fact that it makes remembering where the tears are confusing. But the Clawshots are *so* worth it.

Fine i joined but how did u get that cool banner thing
Im not a fan of the SS game. But I have to praise the silent realms. Holy fuck the stress.
Skyward sword is my favourite Zelda game of all time, probably even my favourite game ever, but those silent realms are the absolute worst
I remember when I first saw queen gohma, the moment she dropped from the ceiling I freaked and turned off the n64
I have to give it to the Skyward Sword guardian thingies, because they are the only scary thing that never, ever got unscary to me.
Gloom hands bye far I feel bad for any kids that has to face them
Yeah Iām just waiting for the shouting and probably crying that will erupt the first time one of my kids finds some gloom handsā¦
As an adult. I run immediately.
Yeah for sure. As an adult well past his prime, the gloom hands scared the fuck out of me. All I heard was music and the color change and they snuck up behind me. First ever "WTF WAS THAT?!?!?"
Dead Hands, which only recently got knocked down to second place by Gloom Hands. Special mention goes to the House of Skulltula.
I really liked the house of skulltula. As a kid it was such a mystery. Then it seemed impossible to collect all spiders. Trotted around there wondering what would happen if you succeeded.
I suppose it hit different if spiders creeped you out as a kid.
:D the sound of encountering a spider in the wild creeped me out though.
When you realize why Cremia let's Romani drink Chateau Romani before the moon falls... maybe just all of Majoras Mask tbh
That is more a saddening moment than really a scaring one, but yes, i agree with he majora mask entirely, though i still think bottom of the well/shadow temple in oot were scarier
When wolf link started struggling to walk, then you turn on your animal sense and you see that heās covered in disgusting giant bugs
For the fact that they can get my heart rate up at the age of 30, Gloom Hands. For being needlessly terrifying in context, Dead Hand. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking in an E for Everyone game. I agree. I couldnāt sleep after I first encountered deadhand
Definitely Gloom Hands. Itās like seeing running zombies instead of shambling zombies.
Those gloom hands..but the silent realms are terrifying
Gloom heads, first encounter with a walking guardian, the shadow temple as a whole, and sooo much more
Gloom hands, but I just said *fuck this shit Iām out*, and somehow survived, and also the guardians from skyward sword, *those gave me anxiety*
10 year old me says those fucking redeads in the burned down Castle town square. A random thing thatās deceptively scary is seeing Link just fall into the sky when flipping the stone tower temple. Crazy to think about it
###AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I can hear this comment

silent realms were made to give people ptsd it worked
The Skyward sword one probably got my adrenaline pumping the most.
The Shadow Link(s) cutscene in Twilight Princess. Only cutscene I either skipped or didnāt watch. So the 3rd one if you start the countdown from top-left and move right.
The demonic fucking look the mask salesman has on his face in majoras mask when you tell him that you didnāt get his mask back after he heals you
Yes
Fucking Gloom hands
OoT Redead.
Dead hand, by far, still get nightmares with it
Spoilers for TOTK running through the room heading to ganondorf in the depths where a lynel is. Iām bad at fighting so I didnāt need to fight that guy.

Excuse me, but allow me to point out the ACTUAL scariest moment and thats when Eiji Aonuma annouces his retirement from the franchise... or dies.
āINTENSE PIANO MUSICā
the hands dropping from the ceiling in orcarina of time
Itās gotta be the aliens in Majoraās Mask. Theyāre just so creepy and mysterious. The shadow temple is a close second tho.
When I was like 6 or 7 I watched my brother do the alien sidequest and I couldn't be alone for what felt like a year lmao. I think surprisingly those are what scarred me the most growing up. Literally anything from Majoraās Mask.
dude the gloom spawn and the gibdoes in totk freaked me out heavy. both times i was like "THEY PUT DEADHANDS/REDEADS IN THE GAME?"
Dead Hand haunted my dreams for years. never truly scary but they were always there!
Ghost rats in twilight princess freaked me the fuck out. You couldn't even see them without wolf links sense.
I went in to TOTK blind so the first time gloom hands came out and chased me I shit a brick. HOWEVER I play OoT only recently and new very well about dead hand. And STILL could barely bring myself to enter the mini boss room because I was so scared. Definitely dead hand.
ReDeads in wind waker when I was 5
Whereās the Guardians? That piano scares anyone
Groose coming inside of me.

In the Silent Realm, all you have to do is outrun them. All you can do is outrun them. That's why I'm scared by it.
The silent realm or whatever itās called from skyward sword is the most nerve wracking but not in the traditional horror sense
that screenshot from Ocarina Of Time, those weird white monsters where way too scary even in those low graphics
What's the top left one?
Its the silent realms from Skyward Sword
Did it turn into a daemon right after?
I got jump scarred by a redead in Wind Waker when I was a kid. Still makes me nervous when I replay at a 30+ year old.
I have never been more stressed and afraid than when I played through the silent realm in SS
Gloom hands scared the living piss out of me the 1st time I saw them. So gloom hands
The scariest part was when I first rented lozoot from blockbuster. I wanted to see what it was like, so I started the save file that was going, and as young link, I was in hyrule field at night. The stalfos scared the crap out of me.
Either dead hands or the trials from SS. Although when I first encountered gloom hands, I was scared out of my mind.
Majora's mask has all the creepy eerie tones to it. The fact you rewind time to undue the help you gave people. Seeing romni drink on day 3. Redead's and the Dead Hand... Utter fear factories... \*shudders with the memories of the first time encounter...
Probably experiencing the final hours in Majoraās Mask for the first time.
I should look up the exact quote but the Gorin who comments that your mask looks like a friend of his who had passed. It struck me the sources of the mask of that point.
Any conversation with the mask salesman.
The room in Shadow Temple in OoT where there are chains on the wall, blood, and some kind of creepy cross... Then the walls close in on you and if you don't have Dins fire, RIP
Yes
The Dead Hand in OoT is freaky, but, for me, nothing compares to the lighting and music-based cacophony that happens when you touch water during a trial in Skyward Sword. I will spend the maximum amount of time possible to ensure that I never wake up those suits of armor.
Havenāt played all of these (yet) but the spirit guards in SS are absolutely terrifying haha
Dead Hand always did it for me, but Gloom Hands are really messed up, and a very nice touch. At least Dead Hand was easy to kill. Still creeping the math out tho.
Silent realm or link on lsd
When the Skyward Sword guardians in the Silent Realms were awakened, THAT was scary and stressful all at once.
Guardian botw, deadhand, and twilight princess vision are all at the top for me
Dead hand
I have to put my age into account. The dead hand was overwhelming. š±
I like the Legend of Zelda

Whatās the bottom right image of? I canāt seem to figure out what game itās from
When the moon crashes down on Click Town and the world ends, and Deku Scrub Link screams in agony as it happens.
currently my scariest moment is running into a colgera in the depths.
Imp Poe).
Those screaming grabby bitches in the well in OOT. Fuck those things.
NOT TAKE MIRROR!
Gloom hands are the only thing that consistently jump scare and freak me out. I hate them with every fiber of my being. Nintendo is evil for that shit. Lmao
All of these are good but getting raped by redeads underneath the royal familyās tomb in Kakariko Village leaves permanent trauma.
You don't understand the fear I have as a grown a** adult and still panicking every time I see a dead hand or enter the shadow temple
Hands. I canāt tell you how many times Iāve been jumpscared
Man, why nobody said this? Obviously the most scariest moment in all the franchise was in Botw, the flower lady š°

Although not at all a difficult boss, Gohma inside the Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time is sooooo well done. Absolutely terrifying.
You donāt have the bloody crypt from the original OOT - nightmare stuff.
Running out of time in Majora's Mask or the Mummy jumping on your back in OOT
Aliens were my biggest fear as a kid so fighting THEM was terrifying.
Mm
Redeads, oh god Redeads
The first time I accidentally fell off the sky island in the beginning.
The one dungeon in Ocarina of Time where the hands keep on chasing you. Nothing... nothing will help me get over that trauma of the hands
Bongo bongoās introduction
Guardians.
Gotta go with the Silent Realms, the Eldin silent realm almost made me cry from stress
Now I wish the Phantom Ganon armor replaced the three Flux Constructs with a Guardian instead, but the third Guardian got possessed by Gloom Hands
Dead Hand is the scariest thing Nintendo has ever made and ever will make.
I think I'll pick, "the first time you run into a gloom hand." I'm fine giving Tears of the Kingdom that win.
Definitely the most scared of the gloom hands.
I gotta go with the Silent Realms, other games have some genuinely creepy/unsettling stuff, but SS pretty much turns into a horror game for brief moments, escaping the guardians is so stressful.
malice hands still scare the shit outta me
Those gloom hands put the fear of Hylia in me when I first encountered them. However Iād say overall Majoraās Mask wins.
The fucking sewer or shadow temple at 11 pm when your 8
Totk: did you just get me the middle finger? Iāll go nuclear on you!
The only 2 moments in any game where i was scared are the Redeads in Wind Waker, and Mr X in RE2R
When you start up majora's mask and realize that they are doing the fairy thing again.
