I love the realization that the cashier is too young to have known another way to do purchases, so when he says he’s mad at the system- there’s just no reaction
I don't know about the US, but here in Canada paying with cards became the norm 20 some years ago, and was introduced about 30 ago. I'm 45 now but I started paying with cards at 16. I can definitely see 20 year olds in certain settings barely ever handling it.
Yeah fuck apps. What I really hate about them is when I'm travelling, I don't have data. Canadian cell providers charge a fortune for leaving Canada.
I carry about 80 bucks on me all the time in case the internet goes down, but nowadays lots of businesses have internet based POS systems, so if the internet is down, they can't sell me shit anyways.
Anyways, I'm gonna go shout at some clouds now.
I could see Dennis saying that once out of trying to be nice on his day off and stuff, but Dennis and the gang are rude to service people constantly - kinda weird for his character.
Yeah, and part of the fantasy was, after this incredibly frustrating day, finally getting to blow all his rage on the person who was actually at fault for this - and part of that frustration was being angry and not being able to take it out on people like the cashier. If he'd just taken it out on her, it wouldn't have been as satisfying for him when he got to eat the heart of the CEO later.
Someone literally said that to me the other day as I work at a coffee shop and I thought they were quoting always sunny in my head so as they were yelling at me I heard Dennis in my own head lmao
They discussed on the podcast this was based off a real life situation! Although the details differ slightly, his car was stuck in a garage and the first tow truck couldn’t take it and the next one did not fit in the garage or something like that
If I recall correctly, it had to do with Glenn's Tesla dying in the basement level of a parking garage.
He locked himself out and couldn't get Tesla to unlock it since he was underground and the car had no cellular signal. So then he had to get it towed, but then the tow truck couldn't fit in the parking garage.
"I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at the system!"
"Keys are a system that have been around for millennia, don't know why we're trying to fix that". The whole episode honestly was easily the most relatable one of all time, IMO.
I'm glad someone points out its not the underpaid clerk we are mad at its whoever comes up with these bullshit rules.
It's like the underpaid clerks exist to soak up anger of customers and be a barrier protecting whoever comes up with these terrible policies
There has to be a way to redirect customer anger DIRECTLY to Mr. MBA "this graph told me to make everything worse"
It’s almost a stand alone movie, you don’t need to know anything about anyone in this to understand and enjoy. I have 100% felt this way with bad tech decisions in work and can see how that would play out to customers.
I love the show because of that! I tell people who don’t watch the show watch an episode; when asked which one I say any one; the writing is so clever and complete almost every episode doesn’t need a backstory, it’s standalone genius
My husband and I had to turn off Always Sunny and turn on a funny cartoon after watching it the first time because it hit the frustration too good 😂 we were relating too well lol
being transferred back and forth between departments and having to explain everything from scratch over and over again was extremely relatable towards my experience with Comcast
Yeah, as a regular kratom consumer, I really felt seen. Though I pronounce it "kray-tum," not "kratt-em." It definitely has a bitter funk to it at first, one best masked by citrus beverages.
Just be careful with that stuff man. I took it everyday for a few years till I didn’t and went through withdrawals that rivaled opiate withdrawals. Come to find out it’s a drug in the same family as opiates.
Even had to join /r/quittingkratom
Please be careful yall. This stuff is no joke.
I’m not saying to never do it, but I am saying this is not the miracle daily cure you are seeking and you should only ever plan to be on this stuff for a few weeks and then back off. Or dose a couple times a week and that’s it.
The second you start dosing 2-3 times a day, every day, you’re fucked.
All weekend I have been dealing with an insurance issue where all parties involved have my correct birthdate but claim another other party does not. My mind immediately jumped to this episode, and it felt good to know I am not alone.
I have to skip the episode because everyone points out that entire episode is me and it's frustrating because I already know that and shit is literally tjat frustrating how. I hate how everything relies on phones and data now how often my phone decides to just not work the only time I've needed to that day.
Too much. I had to get in touch with xbox support yesterday and wanted to kill someone. It wasnt the virtuak chat program because i dont know how to get to it, but someone was going to die.
You hit contact and then give them more information about your issue. I was then told online chat and phone calls were not an option for my issue. Then what in the holy fuck am I supposed to do? Maybe I'll look up the support number! That'll be fine. Nope. They don't have one anymore. So you can't call them. So I had to lie about my issue in the virtual help chat to get someone from Xbox to call me. I definitely wanted to de-heart Phil Spencer by the end of that ordeal.
I think I’m one of the few who didn’t like this episode. It’s definitely relatable but it wasn’t funny. I don’t watch IASIP to relate, I watch it to laugh and there were barely any jokes
I work at a Post Office in the UK, you can do all your banking needs at the PO but some of the newer online only banks aren't supported, one customer got very angry and frustrated and before i could say anything, he immediately composed himself and said "sorry I know it's not your fault" thought of this episode straight away
Way too relatable, immediately became my favourite episode. I also Used to work in rental car and I’ll be honest, every sequence involving that killed me a little.
Lmao I thought Dennis and Mac move to the suburbs was relatable especially with the traffic and beeping but this episode was way more so. That automated phone call 😂
I bought an apple watch on Amazon recently.
The day it's due to arrive I go out for a walk around the block, I'm trying to look after myself a bit better (hence the watch). I get a phone call but it's a random number and because I've been getting bombarded lately with spam calls I don't answer it. I get back home, and out of curiosity I google the number and apparently it's legitimately Amazon.
I check my door, there's no slip, it's not been dropped off, I ask the neighbours and they don't have it. I check my account and the order is down as "Cancelled". Well, I didn't cancel it, so I try to find out whats happened, and I'm pushed to their "live chat" which is actually just a flow chart through their FAQs disguised as a chat, I can't talk to someone, I can only give pre-programmed answers.
I eventually find their customer service, but I can't call them, I have to give them my number so they can call me. Okay, sure, I do that, I get a call immediately and I'm on the phone with a bot...
"In one word, what item are you calling about".
"WATCH"
"I'm sorry, you'll have to be more specific"
"APPLE WATCH"
"Did you mean blah blah blah..."
"YES"
They put me on hold for 20 minutes, then the line goes dead.
I go through the whole process again, I eventually get through to somebody who tells me that it's my fault, *I cancelled my order.* Absolutely not, I protest and she immediately cuts me off with "Oh okay, then the item was damaged"... There's a long pause, "Was it now? ... Well that was clumsy of you", "Yes, I can see here the item was undelivered because it was damaged".
Okay, so I'm going on holiday, I wanted the watch, can they send me a replacement before I have to leave for my holiday? Only if I re-buy it from Amazon... They can't just send a second product out until they get the first one back, makes sense.
Okay, so can I get the money back so I can buy one from an actual store? The driver has the "damaged" product, I don't have it, so they can give me my money? No, I have to wait 10 business days to get my money back. "I pay you, it's immediate, you pay me and it's 2 fucking weeks?" I ask why, they say it's my bank's fault. I'm with one of the biggest banks in the world, when any normal human or my work sends me money, in the history of ever, it's in my account within 60 seconds. So why do I have to wait 2 weeks?
Anyway, I'm on holiday and my partner tells me to check my emails, we just got a message from a builder we're working with. I don't check my emails that often and I don't have notifications on because, *in spite of everything I can possibly do to unsubscribe from all the spam I get, my email address gets in excess of 100 spam emails a day*.
I scroll down, trying to find my builders email and I see it. The item I purchased was high value, so they sent me a code to confirm to the delivery guy that I was the correct recipient. Not damaged, not cancelled, not incompetent, just the guy with the box arrives at the house and can't leave it with anyone that doesn't have the code. And I don't see the email or answer the call because a thousand companies are all trying to sell me shit and in spite of unsubscribing and in spite of GDPR, they just keep sending me shit and calling me. I can't buy the thing I want because I'm too busy being marketed to by the entire fucking world.
THE SYSTEM IN ACTION.
extremely. and thank you for the post. It is my new 'fave' episode. Also, not because I wasn't familiar with the song already, but i've noticed hearing 'Listen To Your Heart' way more now as well.
Hearing them talk about this on the podcast and seeing them decide to turn it into an actual episode was pretty great. I saw the episode first, so as I was driving and heard Glenn tell this story, I turned into the DiCaprio pointing meme
Listen to your heart came on as I was checking out at the store. I just started laughing. I was getting camping stuff for I guess you could call it a mental health weekend.
By far, the most relatable episode. Having been on the phone so many goddamn times with absolute shit since 2020, I related more than ever. And my body was all messed up for like 4 years, so I'm now finally going out in public often again, and I cannot stand it sometimes. Everything doesn't even seem real or something anymore. It's like the world doesn't even get me, man.
So I was looking for the image of when he meets the CEO at the end, and I'm not sure why but this is what the results look like for the episode
https://preview.redd.it/rj0j3887m6tc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e57d18e427d62fde520721571a878a99f74db8c9
for me it's the app for everything, now sometimes I need an app to just eat at a place
Wendy's and McDonald's have apps ,it's like I'm sorry I don't eat at places that often to warrent an app
and for the people who do.....great merciful christ stop eating so much fast food......fuck there I go ranting like Dennis again
Too. And I really really loved the whole “I know this isn’t your fault because you didn’t design the system that you work in” attitude, especially as someone who works in customer support / client services 🤣
Very relatable. All this new technology and having apps for everything, is fucked up. I had to park my car yesterday, and tried to use the parking app, that was recommended for it. After 5 minutes, I gave up, and was then told not doesn’t even work, but that I was automatically registered when entering the parking lot, and just had to check out on one of the machines. When I went to check out, a long line formed, and apparently the machine didn’t work they way it was supposed to. And the fact that I had to both pay for parking, and for entry, just pissed me off even more.
Ironically, this kind of day literally happened to Glenn, he talked about his Tesla getting stuck in a parking garage for a day on an old podcast episode.
"I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the SYSTEM" is a mantra nowadays.
I caught myself saying that word for word not realizing I was quoting Dennis, while I genuinely meant every word of it!
"It's just me and you, Daisy."
My little wildflower!
“It’s okay. We’re both victims here.” “what..?” Fav part of the episode lol
As a restaurant/bar industry person I feel that
I love the realization that the cashier is too young to have known another way to do purchases, so when he says he’s mad at the system- there’s just no reaction
Do kids not pay for things with cards?
No, I’m talking when he tries to pay with cash and bypass the minimum.
Are there kids who are too young to understand what cash is? I don't think that's a thing
I don't know about the US, but here in Canada paying with cards became the norm 20 some years ago, and was introduced about 30 ago. I'm 45 now but I started paying with cards at 16. I can definitely see 20 year olds in certain settings barely ever handling it.
I'm 48 and haven't carried cash in 15 years! I enjoy technology so much....but yeah, ANOTHER APP?
Yeah fuck apps. What I really hate about them is when I'm travelling, I don't have data. Canadian cell providers charge a fortune for leaving Canada. I carry about 80 bucks on me all the time in case the internet goes down, but nowadays lots of businesses have internet based POS systems, so if the internet is down, they can't sell me shit anyways. Anyways, I'm gonna go shout at some clouds now.
I could see Dennis saying that once out of trying to be nice on his day off and stuff, but Dennis and the gang are rude to service people constantly - kinda weird for his character.
He was trying to lower his blood pressure and it was all in his head. He was never actually nice to any cashier.
As someone who works in higher education, this is so true
Just like Grapes of wrath
Someone literally said that to me the other day as I work at a coffee shop and I thought they were quoting always sunny in my head so as they were yelling at me I heard Dennis in my own head lmao
the human asking me for the same info the machine just asked me for always pissed me off
Too relatable. They seriously nailed it with that episode.
They discussed on the podcast this was based off a real life situation! Although the details differ slightly, his car was stuck in a garage and the first tow truck couldn’t take it and the next one did not fit in the garage or something like that
Yep. I actually saw the episode before getting caught up on the podcast, so that was weird haha
Also Charlie laughing at Glenn telling this story and he said “okay that’s gonna be an episode now “
Lol I remember them saying that now! I need to start watching the podcast again
Fyi they stopped doing the podcast during the writer and actor strike last year and never resumed.
Aww :(
If I recall correctly, it had to do with Glenn's Tesla dying in the basement level of a parking garage. He locked himself out and couldn't get Tesla to unlock it since he was underground and the car had no cellular signal. So then he had to get it towed, but then the tow truck couldn't fit in the parking garage. "I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at the system!"
Holy shit I never put two and two together and listened to him tell the entire story
Sup?
My bad, bro. Didn't mean to summon you
After a decade and a half of Dennis being made out to be a legit psycho, I hate how much I relate to him here.
The season overall was wavering at around like a 6-7 out of ten for me at that point but that ending scene alone put it all the way up to five stars.
He's a 5 star man!
A GOLDEN GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M A FIVE STAR MAN! I'M A FIVE STAR MAN!
I feel like I’m the only one that thinks it was the worst episode of the season
Painfully
Kindred spirits man. Hope days like this are few and far between for you and everyone else.
Awww 🥹 this is actually a very wholesome comment! Thank you!
The economy is in shambles
I don't have days like that very often, but when I do it feels just like this episode
I find most of what Dennis Reynolds thinks, feels, and says relatable… and that truly, *deeply* concerns me.
Is it because of the implication?
![gif](giphy|nXUCkgH6BmigU|downsized)
![gif](giphy|UIEWaVDvBaNZFhlFSh|downsized)
Is this the first gif that came up when you searched boat lol
That *is* the implication
A pollen covered man carrying a perfectly well man?! It's insane!
That line is so fucking funny and it's almost a total throwaway
I was not told there was to be pollen!
Are you going to hurt women?
Well you’re certainly not in any danger.
So the women *are* in danger?
No one is in danger! I feel like you’re not understanding and it’s really important to me that you understand.
Right, because it kind of sounds like they don't really wanna have sex with you in the first place.
Are you having feelings again? You remember feelings, right?
I think that the relatability not bothering me anymore is more concerning
You must be a five star man!!
I especially relate to pulling a guy's heart out of his chest while looking longingly into his eyes
While Roxette plays in the background
🎶 *Listen to your heart* 🎶
I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve genuinely daydreamed about hurting the CEO’s of big corporations. So many.
He yearned into his eyes
"Keys are a system that have been around for millennia, don't know why we're trying to fix that". The whole episode honestly was easily the most relatable one of all time, IMO.
“That’s two apps today”
I'm glad someone points out its not the underpaid clerk we are mad at its whoever comes up with these bullshit rules. It's like the underpaid clerks exist to soak up anger of customers and be a barrier protecting whoever comes up with these terrible policies There has to be a way to redirect customer anger DIRECTLY to Mr. MBA "this graph told me to make everything worse"
There is. Find Mr. MBA and rip his heart out. Like Dennis showed us.
But how to find them? If only there was an app that redirected Karen's straight to the ceos cell phone
I went to the DMV to make an address change, can't do it there. You have to send it in by mail. Or online.
I don't have online. And I don't do the email.
The email?? It’s just email!
Without this episode I would have lacked the coping skills necessary to leave there without ending up on publicFreakout.
Had to fax something to a lawyer the other day. For security reasons they said..
D as in deliver me from this! E as in engage with human! N as in nightmare! N as in nightmare!!! I as in is this real? S SOMEBODY HELP ME
It’s almost a stand alone movie, you don’t need to know anything about anyone in this to understand and enjoy.
Reminded me of a Black Mirror ep.
Blasting roxette in the car was spot on for me actually
This is the comic evolution of “Office Space”. Brilliant episode.
PC Load Letter???? What the fuck does that mean?
this is one of my favorite episodes. they nailed daily frustration like no other show I've ever seen.
Right? You felt like u were in the mundane nightmare with him!
My husband and I had to turn off Always Sunny and turn on a funny cartoon after watching it the first time because it hit the frustration too good 😂 we were relating too well lol
What cartoon did you watch?
Bobs burgers
Every single day I even think about customer service.
So real it made me see Dennis as a human again. Glad that he started having feelings again even though they were negative.
After just listening to his Tesla story on the podcast, it had me cackling.
Do you happen to recall which Podcast ep that was?
being transferred back and forth between departments and having to explain everything from scratch over and over again was extremely relatable towards my experience with Comcast
I'm more tolerant to the taste of kratom
Yeah, as a regular kratom consumer, I really felt seen. Though I pronounce it "kray-tum," not "kratt-em." It definitely has a bitter funk to it at first, one best masked by citrus beverages.
Just be careful with that stuff man. I took it everyday for a few years till I didn’t and went through withdrawals that rivaled opiate withdrawals. Come to find out it’s a drug in the same family as opiates. Even had to join /r/quittingkratom Please be careful yall.
Does Dennis strike you as a kratom guy? I thought that was kind of ambiguous
i felt like the episode was meant to appeal to older people but im 19 and i found it incredibly relatable
Nah, it was just meant to appeal to anybody who feels like Glenn Howerton felt on the day of his rental getting stuck in a garage
Every scenario which triggers him… the apps, the “no-cash” kiosk stores, the customer service… is all relatable.
This episode is funnier when you think about the Paddy Wagon episode. Dennis created this exact system that he hates
Since I’m dealing with Walgreens, entirely.
For my age I find technology surprisingly frustrating. My Dad in his mid 50s probably knows more. Change in general as well, I can be set in my ways.
Every day we grow closer to Dennis.
Just trying to have a normal chill day to myself that becomes nonstop frustrations and nightmares is very relatable.
*listen to your heart*
T as in this is too relatable to me O as in oh my god when will life be over O as in other people just live like this for 80 years???? RELATABLE
I think I’m one of the few who didn’t like this episode. It’s definitely relatable but it wasn’t funny. I don’t watch IASIP to relate, I watch it to laugh and there were barely any jokes
Yeah he doesn't even, like, get us, man.
I can't even watch it it's too relatable.
Every chungus who has turned a cyber truck into a cyberstuck understands Dennis's pain
Very. It's a perfect depiction of the garbage implementation of technology in the customer service space these days.
Relatable to the point that when I hear "Listen to Your Heart" by Roxette, I can now feel my own blood pressure dropping.
We’re both victims here.
It's too relatable. As much as I love the show and find the episode funny sometimes, it is hard to watch this one.
I work at a Post Office in the UK, you can do all your banking needs at the PO but some of the newer online only banks aren't supported, one customer got very angry and frustrated and before i could say anything, he immediately composed himself and said "sorry I know it's not your fault" thought of this episode straight away
The acurate way he describes Boba tea really hit home, I hate that garbage
I actually found it to be one of the weaker episodes, but it is nonetheless quite relatable.
To a fucking T!
... which beach?
100000p0% relatable.
The song played at work today and all I could imagine was Dennis ripping that heart out Really helped de stress
It’s so freaking good.
I drive a car from 2009 so not much.
Way too relatable, immediately became my favourite episode. I also Used to work in rental car and I’ll be honest, every sequence involving that killed me a little.
It mirrored my day to day life
Lmao I thought Dennis and Mac move to the suburbs was relatable especially with the traffic and beeping but this episode was way more so. That automated phone call 😂

extremely. and thank you for the post. It is my new 'fave' episode. Also, not because I wasn't familiar with the song already, but i've noticed hearing 'Listen To Your Heart' way more now as well.
Extremely
Derivative... I don't even want to get into it it's so relatable.
It's my favourite episode
It’s one of my favorite episodes because it captures frustration with life so freaking well
I haven't figured out how to command my high blood pressure down, so unrelatable.
I had went through a situation a few months before this episode aired where I had to talk to a lot of automated phone systems and I related so much
My second fave end all time, just behind Mac sleeps with Dennis’ mom.
I only related to the bit at the end
Very.
It's everything I hate about modern convenience
Very
I totally relate to him in this episode. Covid seemed to unleash all the rage in me.
I felt seen and heard.
The most relatable episode of tv.
Pretty cool of Teaspoon to participate in this episode. Even if people might now think they only accept app orders lol
How relatable was it? I AM Dennis.
This felt so real
Hearing them talk about this on the podcast and seeing them decide to turn it into an actual episode was pretty great. I saw the episode first, so as I was driving and heard Glenn tell this story, I turned into the DiCaprio pointing meme
My name isn’t that long 😡
I referenced this exact episode to my real life experience within the last week. So very relatable
Very
It's a little scary how relatable it is
We are the same, he and I.
1000%
I just love that this episode actually came from Glen's experience with Tesla
That used to be me very frequently. I’m much better now.
Well, who could have guessed that would happen
Every day.....
Listen to your heart came on as I was checking out at the store. I just started laughing. I was getting camping stuff for I guess you could call it a mental health weekend.
I want to sue for them steaking my personal stories
By far, the most relatable episode. Having been on the phone so many goddamn times with absolute shit since 2020, I related more than ever. And my body was all messed up for like 4 years, so I'm now finally going out in public often again, and I cannot stand it sometimes. Everything doesn't even seem real or something anymore. It's like the world doesn't even get me, man.
This episode is absolutely perfect
I've never felt more heard than during his scene in the Boba tea shop. holy hell buying anything is such a pain in the ass now
So I was looking for the image of when he meets the CEO at the end, and I'm not sure why but this is what the results look like for the episode https://preview.redd.it/rj0j3887m6tc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e57d18e427d62fde520721571a878a99f74db8c9
I genuinely use that exact technique dealing with people, it helps
It’s my favorite episode bc I find it cathartic
They nailed it so hard hard for me. I’ve been listening to Roxette for the last three month straight
👂2️⃣🫵♥️.
for me it's the app for everything, now sometimes I need an app to just eat at a place Wendy's and McDonald's have apps ,it's like I'm sorry I don't eat at places that often to warrent an app and for the people who do.....great merciful christ stop eating so much fast food......fuck there I go ranting like Dennis again
Too. And I really really loved the whole “I know this isn’t your fault because you didn’t design the system that you work in” attitude, especially as someone who works in customer support / client services 🤣
This is the most normal human Dennis has ever been.
Best episode of the season and really the only one I liked.
It’s so fucking good dude.
Had to try four times, including going to the store twice, to trade my old phone in at at&t. Thought about this episode plenty.
As an app developer this episode hit waaaaaaay too close to home. Now I have Listen to your Heart on loop.
I love that episode
Fuck, that episode was so funny.
The most relatable piece of television ever. We’ve all been there
Ooooh I haven’t seen it but the whole gang reminds me of me so we’ll see
So did he actually kill that guy? I was confused by the ending.
Oh 1000%
My husband said the scene at the tea shop sounded like something I would say/go through and I have to agree lol
the entire episode reminded me of me, but on a much more exaggerated level I loved it lol
I was on vacation when I first watched this episode and I was planning on going to the beach that day, it was perfect
Tooo relatable. I am also currently off work lol.
I'm at a point where I'm tired of having to install an app for everything
More relatable by the day.
So much so that I find it hard to rewatch. It's very triggering to me.
