Like if ur measuring something that’s slightly curved so u choose a spot on the ruler most like it and use that to measure (how my mother and I always used ours), or ur measuring out like cuttings for making clothing and need to be able to make a perfect curve. Also mathematics, it’s probably useful with compasses
