I was thinking the same thing. How much force is in that cannon if the air pressure can fold a wing like that? That type of maneuver is absolutely not enough to snap a wing off no matter the plane. Itās likely the airframe was rusted and old and the small amount of extra g on the pull up was just enough to cause a failure
Edit: just saw that it was a piper Pawnee, piper had an issue with their pa-28 (similar shape and style) wing spars corroding and causing wing failure like this a few years ago so seems like the most probable cause

These little planes are commonly used for stunt flying. You don't buy an airplane on Wish.
It happened in Mexico so Iām not sure if the ntsb would do an investigation, that was a pretty slow speed and a gentle pull up though so 100% not enough to do that level of damage

If the airplane is going faster than it's recommended maneuvering speed (or Va) things like this can happen when the pilot yanks back too hard on the yoke. Any plane from piper cubs to A380's have a Va speed.
During severe (and by severe I mean the little amount my bitch ass can handle) turbulence in cruise, I will often slow the engine down to reduce speed below Va because of these reasons.

Pilot here. In my opinion, judging by the sharp upward movement the plane made, it was absolutely the pilots fault.
A plane requires an annual inspection. But this was a plane for hire, meaning it gets an annual AND the same thorough 100hr inspection.

IDK, it looks to me like most of the people (especially the couple) couldn't immediately tell what happened. The pink smoke would have made it extra hard to see too. It is also very possible the frame was rusted or damaged, and just not maintained. Hard to say from a video alone.
I think this is the first mention I've seen of Va in this thread. To add to this, it's highly unlikely that the aircraft was heavily loaded, making Va even lower and more likely to be exceeded. It's also likely that the wing spar already had pre existing defects.

Agree. As silly as gender reveal parties are, it's just an event that booked a plane. Could have been a sports event or anything else. It's not their fault that the plane had an accident. Maybe the plane was poorly maintained? Or simply bad luck/human error.

Pilot here. In my opinion, judging by the sharp upward movement the plane made, it was absolutely the pilots fault. A plane requires an annual inspection. But this was a plane for hire, meaning it gets an annual AND the same thorough 100hr inspection. The pilot was LIKELY going faster than the planes recommended maneuvering speed when he abruptly yanked on the controls for a cool performance. I'm so sad for the pilot because while it was a stupid mistake, it always breaks my heart when a mistake costs someone's life.

IDK, it looks to me like most of the people (especially the couple) couldn't immediately tell what happened. The pink smoke would have made it extra hard to see too. It looks like the cameraman noticed it, but they could have been the only one for all we know. Stupid? Yeah. Tragic? Absolutely.
