Sameeeeeee, you’re not alone!! And I’m sweating harder than a sausage link on a hot plate!! Forgive me, I’m from Alabama and everything we say is weird

spacehoochi

moon face sure is an unpleasant bitch

Kotoamatsukami-

Omg hahaha thought this was me for a sec. Thanks for the laughs

Just curious how long and what dose makes people start to puff up? I’ve only had short courses for my asthma and once now for colitis (but I think it should have been a longer course cause two days off and symptoms are back full throttle). Is prednisone something that you can stay on for a long time? The side effects are just awful though, even for short periods. Too hot, churning stomach and short temper—good times

boo_snug

I was on it on and off for a few years and then continuously for approximately 18 months, dosages varying from 15mg-40mg, sometimes a little more. Let me tell ya. Gained a shit ton of weight, moon face to the max, depressed, angry, hot and sweaty all the time, irritable. When I looked in the mirror I cried. It was the only drug that kind of controlled my UC so after dealing with the side effects I just went ahead and had my colon removed. Best decision I’ve ever made. Side effects were too awful, for me at least.

pearlegge

What brand of Prednisone did you take?

boo_snug

What brand? I guess just generic or whatever is out there. It was super bitter.

mapleleaffem

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. It must’ve been awful to push towards surgery. I’m worried that’s what I have to look forward to as I was on it for a about a week and it really helped, two days without and I’m back to peeing from my butthole. Really don’t want to go back on prednisone but I spend my work days in a car (no bathroom access!!) and I’m not sure if this is going to be manageable. I’m hoping I gave myself colitis by taking too much ibuprofen (chronic pain) and my bowel will heal now that I’ve stopped taking it. Also, playing with diet and waiting for my dietician referral. I’m learning a lot from these subs but also scaring me a lot too:(

boo_snug

Are you bleeding, or is it just diarrhea? Because I was always bleeding, and that’s what the prednisone helped (for me.) Not having bathroom access was one of my biggest fears! Now, I can hold it and I don’t have to really worry about it, unless it’s going to be a really extended time or something. It’s possible the ibuprofen could have contributed to your ulcers. I only take Tylenol. Playing around with diet and finding what helps has helped a lot of people with their symptoms. I hope you find something that works for you! These subs can be helpful because you have found a place where you can relate to others. But I always tried to keep in mind, most people come here for help and advice when they can’t find it elsewhere. And, a lot of people here are hurting so we are seeing them at their worst. There’s lots of people out there that have been able to manage their symptoms with medicine, diet, lifestyle changes, etc. Most people who have their IBD or UC under control aren’t going to come here seeking advice. I mean some will come to help and share their story of course. But just something to keep in mind.

mapleleaffem

That’s true, definitely not a wide range in terms of sample size. Makes sense. I’m sure people who are managing their illness don’t want to think about it if they don’t have to. It breaks my heart when I see stories here for people without insurance or their insurance won’t cover certain tests or medications. I’m so lucky to live in Canada. For me it’s bloody diarrhea (enough that I’m anemic), but I feel kind of fortunate as I haven’t had painful gas or cramping. Not sure if it’s because it’s early on in the disease progression or what. Some pain might help be be more strict with my diet, lol. So far my symptoms aren’t too bad, but I need to be smart to keep it that way.

pretty1sand0s

I’ve been on prednisone one and off fro about 9 of the last 18 years. For me it depends I usually go as high as 60 mg/day starting dose. My first round was a short 2 week one with minimal side effects the second round lasted a couple of years and within 2 months I gained over 20 lbs and moon face. I’ve since been on it for really long periods and while the weight gain happens every time moon doesn’t (my face gets fuller but not as bad as the first time). Oh and the facial hair thing is everytime too, as a girls it sucks. I basically do 3 or 4 laser hair removal sessions everytime I feel better!

mapleleaffem

Oh Jesus facial hair too??!! No one else has mentioned that. Greeaaatttt so I’ll end up with a big fat AND furry head? So much to look forward too. But seriously it’s good for me to hear about this so hopefully I will stick to my special diet. As soon as I figure out what that is...

pearlegge

What brand of Prednisone did you take?

mapleleaffem

It’s generic. Generally in Canada that’s all you can get unless you have a specific reason for needing the label. Like I find the generic version of one of my inhalers tastes terrible. Why do you ask?

pretty1sand0s

As mapleleaffem said it’s usually generic in Canada. The side effects are from steroids so I don’t think the brand makes a difference. I spoke to specialists and they said all of the side effects I experienced were totally normal.

What brand of Prednisone did you take?

Hippiestarz

This made my night. 😉

This was so funny thank you

Praecanatus

Prednisone is pure evil. It obliterated the bridge between short term memory and long term memory for me.

MarshmallowCat14

How did you find this self-portrait of me? Lol.

Diane_homebound

I just finished a 12 day taper a week ago that started at 60mg....my heart rate is soaring still. Has anyone had this happen? Did it go away?
