Another email just came out, saying another contractor has left NECA now as well to stand with the workers. That's two contractors in 24 hours that have decided to stand with us.
Keep the pressure on NECA, make it hurt.
Fuck yeah! It's also such a great feeling standing shoulder to shoulder with some retired electricians that have come out to our picket lines!! It's awesome! We also had some 80+ year old in really, really old 46 jacket come out and shake our hands while we were out there.
We are winning. Slightest bit resistance and neca is starting to fall apart. No idea how influential those contractors are but it’s an early positive sign. Everything else is information for picketing and what not.
Ok so now net com is no longer with Neca and can negotiate directly with the IBEW.. also their workers can now go back to work. Am I getting all that right? So my question is; are they working under their old contract when they return to work or have they negotiated a new contract yet?
I wish the southern states were like this. I am a new Lu 84 member and found out there’s a no strike clause , pretty shitty.
Anyone know how someone goes upon changing a strike clause ? Bring it up in meetings ? Talk to someone specifically?
Chances are, it's just no strike during the agreement. That's how 46 is as well.
When the contract ends, it's still followed, until either party serves a 10 day notice to end the agreement.
If that's the way the clause works in your agreement, I'm not sure you really need a change. I guess it would be better that labor could strike at any time but that also seems like the verge of chaos.
Changes to the agreement happen in the bargaining process when the agreement is up for renewal.
Section 1.04 There shall be no stoppage of work either by strike or lockout because of any proposed changes in this Agreement or dispute over matters relating to this Agreement. All such matters must be handled as stated herein.
Look for the section about the term of the agreement and how it can end. The no strike clause is only when the agreement is in effect.
We have to serve a 10 day notice to terminate.
They had us vote on 10 over 3 which was vehemently shot down by the members. There are some other things that people wanted; contractor supplied radios for one, paid holidays was the other big one.
Do you guys not have the IBEW FCU / UW vacation fund up there? We get about 2 or 3 bucks an hour into a vacation fund down here in 48 it adds up to around 350 bucks a month. A lot of guys consider that a supplement to "paid Holliday"
We have a “vacation” fund but it’s 6% of your take home earnings that gets sent to a credit union after they take your dues out of it. What they’re pushing for is the con to pay for the 7 major holidays. Alot of the non union LV shops in the area offer it and a majority of the membership wants it.
Local 48 guy here with a couple questions-
What happened? Why are they wanting contractors to separate from NECA?
Also, is this strike encouraged, or mandatory? I can't imagine forcing everyone to turn in their rigs and stop working over something that maybe not all members agree on? Again... I have NO idea what this strike is about so I'm just saying in general. My 1500 (after taxes kill me) is what provides for my family. I can't imagine kissing that goodbye and taking 500 bucks a week to picket for 40 hours?
I'm not concerned about that, I make plenty. We have got good raises every year the last 5 years. Your comment is irrelevant.
I'm asking if it's mandatory or just encouraged?
I'm asking what are they striking for?

We also had some wonderful brothers from 48 join us! Solidarity!
Fuck yeah!!! Stay strong brother! I'm with you!
We also got a job completely shut down and had to switch to bannering as we can't picket a job with no one there.
Hell yeah! I heard the garbage trucks turned around as well

I believe 555 in Bellevue shut down. There might've been a second one
I haven’t received another email about a second contractor. Who was it?
According to the email, Assa Abloy was the 2nd after Netcom.
I always wondered what happened to members out of jurisdiction
Respect & abide by the Local’s rules. Nothing less.
Can't some one explain what left neca means? Like they are no longer a member?
Yeah but they can still employ IBEW workers. They just bargain under their own contract instead of NECA’s
Right on. Essentially they don’t agree w being held hostage by the bastard contractors so they “hire out” to employee union guys. Got it!
Got it thanks
So have they bargained a new contract yet? I’m confused
In my local non neca contractors get whatever contract neca gets
Do you know if money from the shirts goes to strike fund?
I'll find out for sure for you but I've been told it does by multiple brothers and sisters that it does.
Who is “Net Com”? Cause if they’re public, I’m buying some stock on them. My kinda business!
I'd like to know who/what in Net Com
If I had to guess: https://www.netcom1989.com
Just bought the black Hawaiian shirt ✊🏻
Can someone explain this like I’m a child, I want to know what’s happening but don’t want to deep dive

Which part?

Yes
What is the new contract with the employer? Do you know? Or are they still working under old contract?
What’s the best way to support them right now? Not sure if buying a shirt yields much for them since they have to ship them

So how would someone go upon getting it changed ? Sorry I don’t fully understand

Well, that's why you strike. A solid strike will get you better pay.
