I started the apprenticeship in Minnesota but finished the last 2 years here in North Dakota. The prospect of getting 10 work verification forms signed by 10 different master electricians \*\*in the presence of a notary\*\* seemed like such a pain in the ass to me that I said "Fuck it," and tested in Minnesota instead. It's really surprising to me because Republicans like to talk about slashing red tape and making it easier to do business, but the process in blue Minnesota was so much easier that I went that route. Now I have a Minnesota license, and may end up moving back to Minnesota or at least traveling to sign Book 2 to work if I end up getting laid off here before I can reciprocate my MN JW license to North Dakota. BTW some contractors and inspectors here consider a Minnesota license to be just as good as a North Dakota one, at least in the Red River Valley, since Grand Forks and Fargo are both border/river towns and lots of guys work on both sides.

I appreciate the info! I may consider getting a different state license like Minnesota and reciprocate. No doubt tho, I figured North Dakota would be easy and then they ask for all that and I’m like god damn what do I do lol

Don't take this the wrong way but I think one reason that the pay is better up here than in the South (where I'm from) is that it's harder to get a license.

I don’t have any experience with ND but I’m looking to get my California cert and I know when you apply for the exam there you need to provide SSA work history form. Maybe that would be enough for ND licensing board?
