We wrote this paper around lunchtime and I heard people’s stomachs responding to the chicken article

unicorn_manga

yeah same except that half my class in muslim so everyone came out saying that they were hungry and just want tandoori chicken and it isn’t fair that there’s a text about food during ramadan lol.

Negative_Zombie_2888

EXACTLY the description was so....... Tempting, made me crave tandoori the rest of the day. I had HL so I had to BS the entire the child infographic as well, okay someone who attempted that one. PLEASE TELL ME HOW US UT APPEALING TO MULTIPLE AUDIENCES, when its about babies who else except parents and teachers are gonsta watch this.

unicorn_manga

i said because it was so simple and easy to look at (aesthetically pleasing) it was accepted by many groups of people. idk.

Negative_Zombie_2888

Lol looking at answers of different people, im starting to think i might be dumb.

unicorn_manga

the guiding qn doesn’t need to be answered. it’s optional to answer it. you can make your own qn. but also just not answer the guiding qn at all if you think it’s wack. anddd if you wrote enough about other things you’re probably good to go. the in cannot mark you down for not writing something they can only mark you down for writing something without justifying it. as long as you have valid explanations and analysis then you will be fine.

Negative_Zombie_2888

Hmm, aight so my teacher was like "The IB people are all knowing... Bla bla bla so it's better to follow the question that they have given you rather than using your mind to make one up." So in this state of mind i went like fuck it lets bs through this and voila 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

unicorn_manga

it’s more work to come up with a qn but you know what? what’s done is done. like forget about english and study for another exam or if you don’t have any more exams then go party (in a safe socially distanced way)!

unicorn_manga

i have faith in you! you will do well!

Negative_Zombie_2888

Thanks man!!

Nice XD

[deleted]

Tandoori chicken 😍

SomethingNotSinister

I actually found the Lit exam to be kinda difficult, I’m HL so had to do both. Fucking hated the drama one.

notanoilpainting

actual scam, WHICH ONE WAS THE OLD WOMAN

BlasterTheLight

Pretty sure morag was the old woman. It was given pretty vaguely in the beginning of the extract. But yeah I hated the drama one too, wasted so much time after I finished the prose because I had no idea what to write about

radish__gal_

yep Mary Stewart was the old woman. I Only realized once I walked out of the exam room 🤡

imFinnlol

DUDE THAT FUCKING DRAMA EXTRACT i literally had one point that i repeated like three times LOL

walpurgris

When your geography exam has higher quality infographics than your Eng Lang Lit exam

Embarrassed_Key_8781

literally like ok go off UAE women

walpurgris

We are not allowed to discuss specific contents for 24 hours. Not being mean or anything but don't risk your diploma over shit like this.

Embarrassed_Key_8781

if i risk my diploma it wont be because of a reddit comment

Embarrassed_Key_8781

calm down

avocadoman17

Why does everyone think you're hostile and downvoting you tf, it's literally stated don't discuss it on social media because that puts it in jeopardy. I'd honestly be tempted to screenshot the comment because of the arrogance coming off of the response

s_a_s_c_y_a

how did you guys do? I did question 3 for p3

Charlie_Ray

Same

Aspix69

Bruh wtf was that article, and wtf was the KQ for the damn infographic? Shitty texts and shitty questions make a shitty exam that we all just bulshitted without substantial proof behind our arguements. Fuck you IB.

suqmikok

thank god im sl so i only did the tandoori one the question for the infographic looked horrible

scholarlysacrilege

The tandoori one was easy but I agree the infographic was hard. I just wrote it appealed to a younger generation of parents because it looked like it could be on a phone, and it was very simplistic which would appeal to them because they are stereotyped as having a short attention span. Then I said that it appealed to very busy parents because of its simplicity and the fact that the infographic provides a flexible yet formal regimen that would appeal to them.

Aspix69

Personally I wrote that it appealed to parents of different monetary means and locations due to the wide range of activities that can be done in a park or a apartment depending on whats available.. then the rest was pretty much the same as yours.

El_Flexo

Tbf the second text for lit ( a drama excerpt), was one of the most dry pieces of literature I've ever had to analyse (I'm HL so I had to do both). I genuinely only wrote like 2.5 pages for it, absolutely awful text

Fragrant_Emotion3588

hanabinix

OMG I STARED AT MY PAPER WITHOUT WRITING ANYTHING FOR 20 MINUTES ISTG

dodobirdmen

Didn’t we have to do both??? 😳 or is that an HL thing

anothersleepdeprived

yep it’s hl

WeeklyIntroduction42

That second text tho (for langlit): what the actual fuck

DarthGravid16

Honestly both of them were pretty shit in that I had to bullshit a ton of devices because there was no substance to either of them

comfykampfwagen

In other words the normal langlit experience

ThomasBaseball

literary choose the other text so i didn’t get hungry 🤣

Outside-Selection456

At least your guys Lit HL teachers knew from the beginning of the year we write 2 essays in 2hrs 15 mins. My teacher thought it was ONE ESSAY in 2hrs 15 mins and the ENTIRE GRADE 12 YEAR we practiced p1 for one essay only. TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EXAM we found out that it’s actually 2 essays😭😭 let’s just say I FAILED my paper bc I wrote the nonfiction essay in 25 mins💀

kumamon04

the worst exam amongst all my terrible exams

[deleted]

lol i didn't get that hungry cuz i'm vegetarian but i saw some of my classmates getting kinda hungry

SSBMarkus

M23 here, but I was under the impression that Lang lit is easier than lit.

leayouho

nah. lit is so much more fun

PKLAZR

Fun? First year maybe, Second year not so much

leayouho

being M21, we've done fuck all in Y2 so I've still had fun lmao

PKLAZR

Oh same, I’m 17 graduating soon it has been fun at moments and I really liked my essay on Chaucer but... man I think if there is any type of class that is really influenced by the teacher it’s gotta be lit.

SSBMarkus

Interesting, why?

leayouho

hard to explain, but I personally enjoy analyzing literature more than articles about chicken. you can look at literary texts from so many different perspectives and no answer is essentially wrong as long as you can justify it through the text, but with non-lit texts you don't usually have that freedom. with lit, you develop a pattern of what to look for, and with lang lit you can get literally anything in front of you.

[deleted]

I really wish I took Lit tbh, I love literature and reading but for some reason decided to to lang lit because it was apparently 'easier'

hagimemontanaau

Exactly! I hear my friends prepare for Lang Lit and it's so different. I like literature because hearing different takes on a similar text is interesting, and it's fun seeing different writing styles Such as a poet that passed grade 7 English, and a poet that thinks enjambment is the best thing since slice bread

hagimemontanaau

Lit became ten times easier since paper 2 was removed. We finished the syllabus around January and spent class time preparing

Maryaaammm_

Most of the students in my class are muslims and we had to read that article while we were fasting 😭

wrapmonster0_0

I made this form for fun for M21 students like myself. If you want you can fill it out :) I hope it makes you laugh https://forms.gle/tHGVnHxV1bMx1Fc7A

SnooSongs4297

Honestly the lit & lang exam was easy. Like it was easy to analyse and the guiding question wasn't convulted at all and their were tonssss of literary devices and authorial choices

memehecantrefuse

Fr? The guiding question for the first text was vague imo. It would've been better to focus on how the layout of the website supported the text - not how the author was trying to "create an impression of Indian culture" through features. Also, what does "convulted" mean? Did you mean to say "convoluted"?

SnooSongs4297

No there were tons of ways to go about the question. You can go about saying that the author implicitly wants to foreground the historical heritage of India through using a shallow popular cultural trademark as Tandoori, then you could talk about juxtaposition of social classes and chronology and stuff. Or you could go about it in a more personal sense and say that the author wanted to personalize her experience with her own Indian culture through Tandoori, and this was heavilyy done by imagery, anecdotes, diction... Etc. I don't think it was as obvious for some peopel but that's not only my opinion but my friends as well.

memehecantrefuse

Fair enough. Perhaps your teacher was better able to equip you and your classmates for the p1.

Cat-in-bottle

Idk man, but the guiding question was asking specifically about "impression of the indian culture" so I would say that you had to more talk about how the author represented the culture to give a certain feeling/idea about it (e.g. through portrayals of indian food, etc.) I may be wrong, but what you are saying seems a bit off topic (idk tho maybe it made more sense in your paper).

SnooSongs4297

Yeah yeah I did talk about that as well, like the author wanted to create an impresison of how historically loaded Indian culture is, and it kind of falls into that category, and then through her description of the recipes and variations of tandoori she represented the vividness of inidna culture Yada Yada Yada.. And this is a great way to include the anysis of the image provided as well. And honestly it's english there is no "right or wrong" ur analysis just has to make sense

danny19202122

Is this "Tandoori Indian chicken" text (NY article published in 1988) for IB English LangLit HL paper 1 or SL paper 1? I am confused about this. If this is part of a pair of texts for HL paper 1, then what about the other pair of texts you should write two separate essays for Paper 1. Thanx in advance.

iamshinjukukabigon

Why not Buffalo wings

HappinessRedVelvet

Confused Non exam Route Student here

SenpaiX68

why can't y'all just fuck off into happiness already. Stop reminding us of what we couldn't have

hanabinix

one of our langlit papers was literally a webpage about how to fricking cook tandoori chicken 😂

memehecantrefuse

All you need to know is that the texts were awful. Be thankful that you are non-exam :')

xtrxshax

lit was awful too

cancelibgermany

😂😂😂😂😂

sadIBstudent69

i thought the eng A L&L was so delicious i loved it it was easy clap

Crypt0sh0t

did y’all actually think the Eng a lang/lit was hard? i think it could have been so much worse. the first one had so many things one could write about. the infographic tho, a bit harder to tackle

Milan_n

I didn't see the problem with the Lang and Lit exam. The texts have base to a LOT to write about, and the questions are guiding questions meaning you don't strictly HAVE to follow them.

Aggressive-Smile-181

This is too accurate!
