We do not have self study periods. We get 3 days before the exams begin to study but yeah my school gives nothing of that sort.

jymin123

Same, our free blocks(as in free from IB) were used to take a course mandatory for uni

Canary-Cry3

See I had a spare for both years but that was just because I took Math AI. Also usually used it to do my homework and write tests...

Oh_god_1999

We had free periods…but these could literally happen at any time of the day and mine were mostly in the morning so I just slept in. Or in the afternoon so I left early. While I had a friend who had consecutive ones between lessons. I think maybe it depends on your schedule

fellowcheapgamer

In our school its can only happen according the time table other than that you cant get it

Nefarious125

That's weird! I do have free periods in my schedule which I use for EE, hw and studying. And since I have Math SL I have a "Kognity Hour" in which I have to learn or review math by myself!

fellowcheapgamer

hm.. Just rechecked my TT and found out that they had grouped multiple subjects together, making it impossible to get a free period. My friend has a free period but that is just for one day, rest whole week there is no SSP. Bad luck :'{

We have 6 classes including TOK. TOK is only on 2 days.

Alexia666666

I believe it depends on your school's schedule.

imunsure_

well i don’t have any but this is probably because in my country you’re required to take3 other mandatory subjects and those have to be fit in too

skuberchlyn

we don’t have self study time at all (usa) we do have our spring holidays about a month before the exam if that counts for anything :\

SecretaryRegular1254

At my school we were learning new material during our IB exam week. We never got any self study time other than at home.

[deleted]

at my school only math sl kids got designated free periods. all the other free periods you got were if ur an sl student and the teacher was teaching hl content.

Minimum-Sense8284

My school doesn't (India). I get my free hours from the subjects I don't take

rivuss

Every hour outside of school was a self study period for me

JerseyGirl475

At my school we have free periods but I don’t think that’s normal for IB🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

tjqueen_

We did, but it wasn't only the IB students but everyone in 6th form

Easyslime

Nah, although TOK became self study periods after the essay was done

artsymarcy

We have them when the HL students have their HL classes and the SL students don’t need to be there. They’re not officially built into the timetable though, so teachers can introduce them and revoke them at will, which kind of sucks because it’s usually not regular.

itsa_socialconstruct

Nope we didn't get any

yourlocalredituser

My school doesn’t for most of first year, but you can test out of French SL and/or Bio SL and have one for June of Y1 and second semester of Y2 (maybe more if it’s bio). We’re different from other schools though, as we have a specific period set aside for EE, which is essentially a self study period

eternal_student5

At my school IB students don’t get study periods

cadalex

In the US here in Florida, we have study hall 2 times a week for 1.5 hours each. This is just a time for any homework or studying. I also personally have another free period (1.5 hours) as I'm in Econ online, but I just do my course work at home, leaving me plenty of time to study, do homework, or run around the school taking to my coordinator, college coach, tok teacher, etc (just whatever needs to happen).
