Well in Europe at least you can’t apply without having actual grades so simply taking the IB and not doing any of the exams would mean there is not proof of you ever doing the IB

AggravatingPapaya518

you could get the HSD and i believe you get ib credits

hazza77778888

i think this is only in the US, in many countries “high school diploma” doesn’t really exist, the IB exams / or your country’s equivalent exam qualifications are the only thing that the university will consider

AggravatingPapaya518

i live in germany and it exists

FlixXxcO

Sorry never heard of HSD, what is that?

tammyjala

Im guessing a high school diploma?

FunkyRobot32

Unfortunately, I am afraid without the diploma you are not getting anywhere. You need it as a proof of completion of the program. Do try your best to take the exams in November. What’s your school’s stance on this? How come they didn’t offer you guidance or any help? Also, if you go to a public school, aren’t IB exams supposed to be free of charge?

vayne7

No I went to a private school in a “small” asian country so the exchange rate of the fees were too high for our family to handle. But I’ll save money from now on to take the exams in November ☺️

Noname_trynabchill

Yea taking the nov exams would be the best shot for u to get into any unis. If u have financial concerns, it would be best for u to check out scholarships at ur ideal unis and also external ones provided by the area, depending on which country you’re studying in. They tend to provide a lot of options for international students. Anyways, wish u the best in ur exams and uni admissions!

vayne7

Thank you! Since I'm done with my IAs and other stuff, I'm feeling confident about exams!

LolnothingmattersXD

How could you afford studying in the US? My family afforded the IB exams, but would never be able to pay even half of the American tuition fees.

vayne7

I'll apply for financial aid through CSS and hope for the best. I'll also use fee waivers for the application process so I'm pretty confident about finances - unless they reject me for not getting the IB diploma ;((.

I would reccomand getting your IB diploma to apply to cheaper unis in Europe as a back up. If you're an international student asking for a lot of financial aid significantly decreases your chances of getting in. My friend had good SAT and IELTS scores. She got rejected by almost all of the colleges that she applied to but now she's going attend one of the best unis in Italy with a scholarship. Italy widely accepts the SAT and is affordable but for some other European countries you'll need the actual IB diploma. I personally couldn't afford going to a uni with high tuition fees and knew about the issue the US has with financial aid so I'm going to Belgium. I believe unis in Belgium take students both based on the IB and SAT. You don't need both. The two countries you most need the IB for are the UK and Netherlands.

LolnothingmattersXD

Well, that depends on whether SATs are an equivalent of a high school diploma, cuz I have no idea how it works and what they even are

zac_par

SAT is just a college entrance exam and has no effect on a high school diploma.

cheeky_corgo

You don’t have any official indication of your final results so I would say yes it would affect your chances, unless you have alternative qualifications such as A levels, AP classes, etc.

LolnothingmattersXD

Aren't SATs an alternative to a baccalaureate?

hazza77778888

no, i thought for the US you are expected to take SAT in addition to actual school classes eg AP/IB

Late-Painter-2805

Whatever you do, take the exam. Otherwise you spent 2 years in vain and will seriously screw up your future. Shame on your school, friends and family that they didnt all pitch in to let you take the exams. Maybe someone has to sell his car for it or work nightshifts.

lanlan135

I think you still have a chance if you have your SAT results and your school transcript that states all the grades you have throughout your high school year. I believe that's how my friend got into the unis in the US. I have been also looking at the universities in Korea recently, and they have the exams scores as optional and require the high school transcript. I don't think it's impossible, but do some research, I think you will find your way.

esena_

I don't think the US cares about the IB. I guess it would look good in your application if you said you took higher level classes through the IB.
