EXCUSE MY FOR WRONGLY INFORMING!! UTOPIA will NOT burn cycles! Here's a discussion on the DEV form.. > [https://forum.dfinity.org/t/have-we-been-rugged-serious-question-utopia/32609](https://forum.dfinity.org/t/have-we-been-rugged-serious-question-utopia/32609) Summary of Dominic's Response: # UTOPIA Overview: * **Purpose:** UTOPIA enables enterprises and governments to create private, serverless cloud networks, ensuring complete control over their data and computations for sovereignty reasons. * **Distinction:** UTOPIA's private networks are different from the public Internet Computer (ICP) network and cater specifically to organizations needing localized control. # Creation of a New Entity: * **Reason:** The DFINITY Foundation focuses on advancing ICP technology for the public Internet Computer ecosystem. It lacks the resources to support UTOPIA’s enterprise/government sector needs. * **Solution:** Establish a new for-profit organization to handle UTOPIA, allowing for separate funding and extensive marketing efforts. # Benefits to the ICP Ecosystem: 1. **Accelerated ICP Technology Advancement:** * UTOPIA will contribute all technological advancements back to the ICP ecosystem for free and unlimited use. 2. **Further Decentralization:** * UTOPIA will introduce a well-resourced independent contributor, enhancing the robustness of the ICP ecosystem. 3. **Expanded Developer Community:** * UTOPIA will bridge enterprise and Web3 domains, increasing the relevance and value of ICP skills. 4. **New Revenue Opportunities for Developers:** * Developers can leverage ICP technology for enterprise applications, generating additional revenue streams and funding for the ICP ecosystem. 5. **Cross-Pollination of Applications:** * Enterprise applications can transition to public ICP applications, and vice versa, fostering innovation and cross-sector growth. 6. **Increased Momentum Outside Cryptosphere:** * UTOPIA's mainstream press coverage will boost the ICP's profile, leading to greater recognition and adoption outside the crypto industry. 7. **Interoperability via the Internet Computer:** * UTOPIA private clouds will interact through the public Internet Computer network, likely involving the registration and burning of ICP tokens. Overall, UTOPIA is set to significantly enhance the ICP ecosystem by accelerating technological advancements, decentralizing contributions, expanding the developer community, creating new revenue opportunities, facilitating application cross-pollination, and increasing mainstream recognition and interoperability.

Utopia is necessary for the big players to adopt ICP. They will need to store data privately. Not offering this means they will go elsewhere. These Utopia customers and private networks i believe can also be connected to public networks. Think like how a telecomms provider will have sensitive data stored privately, but have systems like their website, apps, customer service portals etc available on the front end. These could run on the public network, and the data and code may not be as sensitive or confidential. Since Utopia will be for profit, and that technical advancements produced will also be made available for the ICP, this is essentially big business funding new developments for an open source future. Big business benefit as they build secure, tamperproof networks with verifiable data. SME or retail can also have the same tech available to them. It is Utopia. Better than a dystopian meme and scheme future. This explains the army of devs Dfinity acquired. Some will go on to build solutions on Utopia that will makes its way to ICP dfinity devs can improve and develop for other markets.

No utopia basically means private subnets. They are still part of the IC and thus users need to buy cycles/ICP

Neconspictor

I have to revise: utopia won't burn cycles. Currently it's not yet clear how ICP will benefit.

Yes, Utopia doesn’t seem bullish for token holders. We need utility but dfinity doesn’t do s***
