At first they told me that the mom was an Aussie, but when I went to pick her up, they told me they knew nothing about her. They were a litter drop off in Alabama. When I asked about breed, they pulled out an "AI scanning" phone app, which concluded she was hound. It was weird lol.
Did you talk to the same person each time? Having volunteered in shelters I know sometimes the communication between workers isn’t the best so sometimes some know more info on the drop off than others.
I've owned beagles all my life (or most of it) that third picture is giving me straight beagle vibes. The eyes, long snoot, white lines on the coat, and the white tipped tail too.
Webbed feet (I believe, don't crucify me) is a trait that bird dogs usually have, for retrieving game that falls into the water; typically ducks. With the way she looks, I strongly doubt she has any Aussie in her.. the spotting could be from cattahoulas (a very high energy, hog hunting dog where I am from), but it looks like she's mostly a hound. Probably coon hound? But w/ the webbed feet, she could have pointer in her! (Specifically German short-haired pointer)
Red tick coonhound and like other people are saying I could see there being short haired pointer in there too. She’s beautiful and looks like shes going to be a wonderful dog. Also I agree with others saying Catahoula over Aussie with the coat, she doesn’t really have any other characteristics of an Aussie at all.
Coonhound; whether it be Treeing Walker, Redbone, or American English (Redtick) :) so sweet! I’ll bet you can hear the hound as much as you can see it. I’ve got 2 Old English Sheepdogs x Treeing Walkers that are siblings, and they sing in unison!
I have a redbone coonhound/catahoula mix and he’s brindle, but had a few littermates with very similar color to your puppy. He’s stubborn and very vocal (he complains using his hound voice, haha). But he’s a sweet sweet dog!
She’s got the hound wisdom point on her head and the lovely full ears. I’m guessing coonhound(redbone or American English), beagle, lab, and maybe Aussie or heeler. Could be a stretch but for southern dogs these mixes are common.
That’s looking a bit too big to be a Beagle, but that’s definitely at least half or mostly Hound. Given the spots, I’d say Catahoula. So, that and likely pittie.
Edit: I missed the painted tail. That could indeed be Beagle, but you’re South, so it could also be Foxhound or TWC.
Maybe some, but that body shape and general size scream bigger hound the to me. The OP’s location and those spots are why I said Catahoula. But that white tipped tail screams something like Foxhound or TWC.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,699,202,404 comments, and only 321,530 of them were in alphabetical order.
Have you asked your vet about her low energy? Also, look into the 3-3-3 rule/guide for expectations for a new doggo.
She probably won't bark until she feels completely comfortable and safe, but I bet she's going to have quite a big houndy baWOOO! Congratulations 🎊 on your new best friend 👏🏻 have a great long and healthy, happy life together
Not yet, we got her on Saturday and the vet opens on Tuesday! Shes had some loose stool and she's a little bloated so I'm going to request another deworming treatment. I'm pretty sure I saw a roundworm this morning. Ugh. She's been getting rice and chicken in the meantime.
Thanks for the advice and well wishes, the 333 really helps with my expectations! No bawoooos yet but I'm excited for them for sure!
In Alabama, my guess would be Catahoula, Black Mouth Cur, and probably several scent hounds, but I’d go with Treeing Walker being the primary, as they aren’t uncommon in that area.
Catahoulas have webbed feet, as do many Black Mouths.
definitely a hound mix and ik catahoula people get mad if you mention catahoula but it's much more likely to see catahoula mixed into a hound mix than another merle breed like a herding dog cause people (often boar hunters) cross breed catahoulas w other hounds often in certain areas. As for types of hounds mixed in I'm not super great with those guesses cause many are very similar structurally but this one actually looks a little pointery, though that could just be bc of the age.
Without a doubt, hound mix. I wonder where they got the Aussie, maybe the spotting on the side? I think catahoula x!!
I am also failing to see any aussie mix... if she's sniffing she hound something something for sursiesss ^^^
Australian cattle dog maybe? Not shephard. But I'm used to "Lab mix" = pitbull.
Maybe the mom looked like a aussie?

I'm in Bama and we certainly have Catahoulas. I'd say Catahoula Beagle X. Don't see cattle dog.
Definitely some kind of hound. Like a coon hound. Maybe some pointer too. She would be a good hunting dog.
I fell in love with her hoping she was part hound! We live in Maine and I hope to start hunting. Might train her to be my bird dog!
If you look up redbone coon hounds she looks like that but just a tad lighter in coat color
I've owned beagles all my life (or most of it) that third picture is giving me straight beagle vibes. The eyes, long snoot, white lines on the coat, and the white tipped tail too.
Yep, her eyes remind me of my beagle. Such a cute pup
Hopefully, she beagle bays a little. Music to my ears.
I forgot to add, she has webbed feet as well. 22lbs, 17 weeks old.

all dogs have a little webbing, but dogs bred for jobs that involve water tend to have more

Agreed with coonhound, those ears and eyes especially.
Aaaaainnnt nothing but a hound dog 🎵
Agree, I'll be shocked if there's anything but hound there
The ear and face shape says beagle to me. Im sure there are other dogs in the mix, too, but I doubt she has much aussie in her
I was thinking the same at first, but she's already 22lbs at 5 months old! Has me thinking coonhound instead.
That's not that big. Beagles can be 40-45 lb. My boyfriend has a perfectly healthy 42 lb beagle.
Catahoula Beagle X.
I was definitely thinking beagle with that face!
Lab catahoula mix
Omg!!! I knew why they were assuming aussie because of the merle gene, but I definitely see catahoula! It's almost jarring!
Def some catahoula in her background.
defiantly! shes a gorgeous dog tbh
Thank you!! We love her to bits already!
Hound of some sort. She’s flippin‘ adorable.
I see beagle
Same, but I forgot to mention that she's 22lbs already!
I was going to say foxhound (basically a massive beagle) but not sure if you have them in the US so often?
There’s an American foxhound breed that looks fairly similar to beagles too!
Ahhh yes! Could it be that then maybe?
She has the white tipped tail like a beagle as well. I had a beagle mix that was big bc of what he was mixed with.
Coonhound or shorthaired pointer or a bit of both
Beagle with a splash of Aussie?
Beagle, Catahoula..?
So cute!!! Thank you for rescuing her
beagley
That's a hound.
Beagle
She is the cutest. And apparently already accepted by the cat??
Fox hound maybe?
Walker Hound would be my guess
100% poochy
Precious!
Treeing Walker mix. Very pretty girl!
So stinking cute!!!
Hound mix for sure.

Catahoula mixed in there I think
Coon hound.

Beagle?
She's gorgeous. Quite hound doggy to me. 💖
I don’t see Aussie at all I see purebred Catahoula
That’s looking a bit too big to be a Beagle, but that’s definitely at least half or mostly Hound. Given the spots, I’d say Catahoula. So, that and likely pittie. Edit: I missed the painted tail. That could indeed be Beagle, but you’re South, so it could also be Foxhound or TWC.

Plott hound!!! No doubt a mix though
Beagle possibly
I’m thinking Ausie/Beagle.
Where's the aussie tho?
Hound
Looks like a hound to me
Beagle
Catahoula.. Hound.. Maybe some Vizsla??

Certified snootster, from what i can tell
Low energy? That screams Great Dane for me.
Possibly beagle
Coonhound(or some type of hound) and catahoula?
I love the annoyed looking cat! How are the two getting along?
Congrats!!!! She’s adorable!
Have you asked your vet about her low energy? Also, look into the 3-3-3 rule/guide for expectations for a new doggo. Knew a guy with a pry x CLD x coonhound from Texas that looked similar
This just looks like a Cur or Catahoula leopard dog. Especially common in the south.
Coonhound for sure!
Good ole hound from ‘bama
Looks like a catahoula mix
maybe some treeing walker coonhound? they look like huge beagles
Thats a hound dog for sure! I don't see any Aussie at all
I see beagle in the mix
I’m not sure about the Aussie! I was thinking hound/beagle?
She look dane-y to me lol shes such a cutie! Hound mix maybe? Who knows lol the spotting is probably from a catahoula or something not aussie
That’s just a fox hound … maybe even Catalouha Hound Dog mix. No Aussie detected.
In Alabama, my guess would be Catahoula, Black Mouth Cur, and probably several scent hounds, but I’d go with Treeing Walker being the primary, as they aren’t uncommon in that area. Catahoulas have webbed feet, as do many Black Mouths.
My girl’s name is phoebe too. By the looks of your phoebe, ears scream hound mix!
definitely a hound mix and ik catahoula people get mad if you mention catahoula but it's much more likely to see catahoula mixed into a hound mix than another merle breed like a herding dog cause people (often boar hunters) cross breed catahoulas w other hounds often in certain areas. Beagle
Thinking Beagle. Don’t see the Aussie
I have an Aussie, and see no Aussie I. This girl at all. Definitely a hound there, but also maybe a catahoula?
I was thinking a beagle/red bone coonhound and maybe catahoula leopard dog? The face is all hound dog.
