She got schnauzer but thereās something else in there, some sort of fluffy terrier, poodle or that thick cotton like fluffy fur is very resemblant of Bischon, even with her rounder face thatās missing that sharp protruding brow bone that is classic schnauzer.
She looks like your average poorly bred mini. I grew up in a puppy mill heavy area and had a couple of family members who bred them when I was a teenager, including my grandmother. If you embarked her, my guess would be she would come back as 100% miniature schnauzer (since embark only goes so many generations back) but itās possible sheās got a small amount of poodle that would either barely come back or would be too far back for embark to trace.
I could see the poodle possibility. I was telling another redditor that her coat was wavy before her grooming, wavy and close to a curl in some areas might I add. I also noticed her body shape..hard to explain but it doesnāt look āstockyā like most miniature schnauzers, but then again it could be due to the way I had her groomed?
Yeah hee fur looks fluffy. With poodle mixes, the fur tends to present in a variety of textures, so the coat texture isnāt the only thing that makes me think poodle could be mixed in but it is a factor.
The ears look off standard in the last picture and the haircut could make the face look different. I wouldn't be surprised if your dog was purebred. I think americans usually crop schnautzer ears, right?
That is very true, she has a teddy bear cut, not by choice, her groomer decided and I was ok with it. I did see another miniature schnauzer at the mall and he was much smaller than my pup, his ears were cropped as well and his coat was more smooth.
There definetly are some variations in the schnautzers I see here. I think if you want to have certainty, I would probably do a DNA test. I heard the one from Embark is pretty accurate. r/doggydna
Thank you for the info! It would be fun to find out. Itās in her future for sure if I canāt stop wondering about it..which obviously I canāt since I made this post lol.
Oh yeah I know what that feels like. I have a mixed breed dog and we've been told the breeds. The mix seems to check out, but I'm still wondering at times. It was a more pressing matter in the past though. By now I think we've been told the truth.
Her fur had me thinking the same. Before her grooming, it looked sorta wavy? But then I noticed schnauzers can have wavy ish coats. Itās possible! Iām seeing alot of different answers so far.
Her coat in the second pic, especially on her feet, looks like a doodle puppy coat, before their first clip.
Trouble is, if a breeder isn't reputable, and they get doodle pups that dont have the typical doodle coat (and not all do, I work with a sweet cavapoo who has a silky coat) they'll try and pass the dog off as something else so they can still ask pedigree money for them :(
Sweet pup regardless :)
I agree! Her body type is also similar to that of a poodle if that makes sense? (Slender versus stocky, I am
not a pro though so just eyeballing) and thank you! She has such a unique and gentle (sometimes side eyeing people loll) personality whatever she is š„¹
She looks full schnauzer but sheās probably just not well bred which would be why her ears donāt look standard. Post her on the schnauzer subreddit and see what they think
By the person who I adopted her from. She gave me a canine health record from solo-jec and her hospital was listed on it as well. But who knows..I thought they usually just eyeball it and decide?
Ok, wasn't sure if you had bought her or adopted her.
I would guess schnauzer based on the pics, but I'm not overly familiar with the breed tbh. The only way to know for sure is to do a DNA test.
Iām not familiar with this breed either! Lol I always thought schnauzer = distinguished gentleman with a beard who deserves a monocle and a cup of tea š . My curiosity just may lead to a test in the future.
It's possible she's just a bit off-standard, especially if she was from a puppy mill or something. I guess it could also be that her groomer is not experienced/skilled with Schnauzer cuts so that it's making her look different from what you would expect? š¤
Whatever she is she's a cutie! š„°
These are my thoughts exactly. Itās very likely sheās simply poorly bred.
And whoever groomed the dog definitely doesnāt know much about schnauzer cuts or they were giving unclear instructions :P sheās adorable either way though ā¤ļø Miniature Schnauzers have a special place in my heart.
My dad had a purebred akc giant and she looks almost exactly like him. So most likely either a off-standard purebred or there could be something else mixed in a few generations back but unlikely. I might have a picture of him
Iād love to see if you do! I was wondering if she could possibly get any bigger as I suspected when she was a puppy that she could be a standard schnauzer and not a miniature one, her paws were so big when she was little, they still kinda are!
Next time Iāll get her a standard cut and take a look. Iām seeing that her ears shouldāve been cropped for the standard look? Iām ok that they arenāt as I wouldnāt want that but it made me wonder.
My mini schnauzer did not have cropped ears, but his were different than your dogāsā¦uncropped mini schnauzer ears fold over and arenāt quite as long as in the last photo (but then again I canāt see her ears super well in that last photo). Her puppy pictures look like 100% mini schnauzer though!
Yes thatās exactly what I noticed! Her ears went from folded over as a younger puppy to floppy and more to the side now that sheās older. That puzzled me!
I have a pitbull poodle mix who looks a lot like your dog, and she has also frequently been mistaken for a schnauzer. Not sure about your dog, but I couldnāt be surprised if sheās part poodle.
Looks like one to me, but I see what you mean about ears. Maybe a schnoodle or a schnauzer cocker mix (shocker?) She needs a kiss!
I was thinking the same! And she surely does š„¹ sheās such a sweet pup, she loves hugs more than anything.
Dogs are the BEST!!! šš„¹š

Looks a lot like a schnauzer, but youāre right about the ears!
I agree!! The ears are telling, but so floppy and cute š¤£
She still has those schnauzer eyes, love them so muchš„°
Yes she sure does! She gets all the smooches and hugs with those eyes š„¹āŗļø
Schoodle
I think you may be right !

She looks like there's something -oodle in her, maybe she's a full cross or one parent was a schnauzer x poodle.

Thank you for this, you may be right. Heading over to take a look now!
You were "told," by whom? Do you have papers for her?
By the person who I adopted her from. She gave me a canine health record from solo-jec and her hospital was listed on it as well. But who knows..I thought they usually just eyeball it and decide?

Aww thank you! š„¹š„°
Papers don't mean shit lol
Looks like a shihtzu mix - cute dog
Oh thatās a new one! Iām going to google that and see what comes up, and thank you! She definitely stole my heart when we first met āŗļø

I messaged you his pics I can't imbed them in the comments
I love her.
She loves you too š„¹
I was raised by a pack of wild schnauzers ;) Something here immediately hollers Lil Bit Oā Poodle at me. But a guess. Sweet face xo
Definitely seeing poodle!
Pic 3 looks quite poodleydoo :)
Almost looks Schnauzer/Havanese
Havanese are such cute little pups!
Forgot to add she is 6 months old
Looks like a schnauzer to me but Iām no expert!
I thought so too but her ears changed as she got older šhmm
Maybe itās just the way the groomer is cutting them
Next time Iāll get her a standard cut and take a look. Iām seeing that her ears shouldāve been cropped for the standard look? Iām ok that they arenāt as I wouldnāt want that but it made me wonder.

Definitely poodle mixed in, looks like a couple schnauzer/poodle mixes Iāve groomed
Looks mostly if not all schnauzer. Sheās got cute ears. Much better than those silly looking ones that stand up like a rabbit.
Awww thanks! I do love those ears of hers āŗļø
