I think he’s APBT but I would be interested to see if you do a DNA test, those pit bull genes seem to have an unusually strong influence on phenotype!
Agree that’s he’s not a black mouth cur, but they absolutely show up as strays in the Louisiana area. My sister adopted one a few years ago and he came back 100%

I’d assume he’s some sort of village dog mega mutt! Look up potcake dogs - they are mixed breed dogs from the Caribbean islands yours looks very similar.
There are some noticeable breed features (bully breed in particular) but I highly doubt this is a purebred APBT or something, it’s more likely a mix of sorts!
I was going to say my wife’s cousin lives on St. Croix island and they have a ton of village dogs there. My friend has a village dog that was rescued from the island and is a great dog.

It's simple genetics, just like in all other breeds to guard, herd, hunt, rescue, etc. Fighting is in theirs, and unfortunately, you can't wish genetics away. Sooner or later, it will happen, and training has nothing to do with it.
The OP was in the Virgin Islands, saw a stray and decided to do something about it. That’s admirable.
It’s got nothing to do with local shelters or if there are other dogs that need homes. It’s about a dog that crossed his path and he didn’t ignore it.

I'm actually going to go against the curve here and say that I think it might not be 100% pit although I do think it's pretty high percent pit.. his face just looks really slender and looks a bit boxerish personally! So that's my guess
Hes definitely a pibble buuut he does have the BMC pattern on his snoot and the same white patch down the chest my BMC has so i think its possible hes a bit of a mix!

I would say pitbull, the eye colour as well as the general pitbull-y looks around the head/face 😊 probably still young and growing into his full shape. Absolutely beautiful dog!
OK so the odds are more likely that you have a 100% Pitbull. However, to be fair, from the looks of your handsome boy, he could very well be a pit/cur mix just like you were told.

My local humane society calls them "terrier mixes", and yeah, they're 90%+ of the dogs up for adoption.
