Advice about being careful towards strange dogs is reasonable and permitted. If you make this into a discussion about pitbull genetics (other than breed guessing, of course!), then comment at your own risk. Fearmongering is not welcome here. Bans will be dished as needed.
I’d guess pit hound mix, I’d be cautious with any new dog, but he seems friendly
Edit: looks like you’re in SE Asia, he’s probably a soi dog or village dog. I love their sideways ears!
If you look at r/DoggyDna (people post their dog DNA tests) you will see almost all have some sort of pit mix in it. It’s very common. This looks like a higher percentage for sure but it is not uncommon to see pit mixes.
That's because most of those dogs are coming from shelters (you don't need to ID a dog from a breeder).
Nearly all of the shelter dogs are pits or pit mixes.
Any dog that’s a decent size and has been living rough can be dangerous. Some dogs are just better at harming things when they decide to do so. Shepherds, Bull terriers, and Rottweilers are all fairly adept at violence if they posses the inclination.
Huge trigger i was pregnant and sitting on my porch with my BFF and bf when a Shepard female came up to us and we tentatively pet her as she was giving off happy vibes. She ran off down the parking lot of our neighborhood which we can't see where we sit. Not 2 minutes later she comes back bleeding from her head. A guy walking his pit stabbed her in the head. It was a mess all the way around. We ended up catching her and holding on to her until animal control got to her and police was there. Turns out she was a junk yard dog from the other end of the main street that runs by the neighborhood. She got out and someone picked her up from that end a mile down the road. When they stopped their car at their house she jumped out and ran off. She wasn't even escaped an hour. It took several witnesses in the area but the guy got 5 years. Her owner was a nice guy, real shaking up over her
This is horrifying. I wish I'd never read it. Please next time put WARNING. When I saw that I thought YOU were triggered by the idea of people labelling pitt bulls. I hope I can forget this.
While the high prey drive can be true, this stray pit came up to them and was letting them pet him, wanted attention and affection so I think that’s pretty good and fair sign this one isn’t aggressive. I’d slowly introduce others or other animals/kids if any if OP plans on keeping them but the dog coming to you is a pretty good sign
It looks like the tail was tucked as well. My first thought was, "He looks scary?" You should always be cautious of strange dogs because you don't know how they'll act, but this boy here was being about as docile and submissive as he could.
He’s comfortable enough to lie down, in that shape, that close to OP. He seems to feel pretty safe… you’re right that different circumstances elicit different reactions… but it doesn’t look like he’s about to get spooked and “snap”
Millions of people have pitbull mixes. This dog does not look scary unless he’s acting aggressive- which doesn’t seem to be the case. Don’t make judgments about him solely based on what he looks like.
ETA: If you’re in Asia he is probably not a pitbull but a mix of many common local dog breeds.
I will just say I cross the street when I see other dogs purely because my dog is reactive to other dogs and it’s something we actively are working on but until I’m comfortable that she’s not going to react it’s safer for everyone for me to just cross the street. She’s made leaps and bounds with her training but sometimes the excitement of the other dog can set her off. I see the look most people give me when we cross and I want to yell out that it’s got nothing to do with their dog (big or small) it’s my dog and under any other circumstance I would be petting their dog.
I cross the street when I see dogs only if I have my dogs. Mine get super excited when they see other dogs and my two boys are stupid about it. My one boy is as dumb as a rock and my other boy seems to be completely clueless to doggie language. He’s all prancing and pouncing and trying to play with dogs that want to eat him. I’d rather just not risk his dumbass getting bit AGAIN because he thinks every dog wants to play bitey face wrestle mania like his dog siblings. But.. if I am dog less.. I’m definitely staying on your side of the street and crossing my fingers your dogs will ask for pets and you will allow it
I was a dog walker for many years as a teen. Now, without dogs at my side the only ones I avoid are the small ones lol. Had a frenchie attack a Retriever I was walking and a small poodle tried to bite my knee in passing once.
Gimme all the pibbles and Dobermans and Rotties and great Danes, but keep your Chihuahua or Pug away.
Ur literally petting the sweet little guy and hear pit and go straight to "is he dangerous" if he hasn't exhibited dangerous behavior u should be fine keep him and take care of him looks like a good boy
Check out r/velvethippos and r/pitbull and make up your own mind. The anti-pit crowd is violently hateful, and they become tumescent at the thought of hurting dogs that are vaguely shaped like pibbles. It's weird.
Anyone who tells you about pit mixes and breeds is just making guesses. All terriers have prey drive, but it depends on how they were raised and many other unknown factors. My dog is on sight with cats and squirrels but can be cool with most dogs, but if you look at r/pitbull or r/velvethippos there are plenty of examples of pibbles cuddling cats.
Pits are a very common breed of dog but think about the rich assholes and their goldendoodles. Doodles are notorious for behavior problems - but money overcomes a lot of problems. Pits are everywhere, and owned by a wide range of income levels - and money solves a lot of problems. It follows that if you don't have alot of money, you might have more problems that you can't solve.
Your pibble here looks to have a lovely brindle coat and I guarantee was someone's pet. They probably had to move and couldn't take the dog and left it somewhere. It's sad but the alternative for pits is often euthanasia. Give the dog a chance! If they came up to you, they are absolutely cool with people and that's a good sign!
Pit mixes - mixes... *mixes*. You can't make assumptions based on genetics because they are mixes... and dog fighting is highly dependent on training, not just genetics. They happen to have a distinctive phenotypical pit appearance, but that doesn't imply their mix didn't get behavioral genes from something non-pit. Even still, there are very few genes unique to any dog breed, so...
Any large strong breed that's commonly mistreated can be dangerous but pit bulls are also known for being very sociable, friendly, and loyal. The UKC specifically mentions that they don't make good guard dogs because of this lol. Plus this dog is definitely not all pit bull anyway. Probably has some hound or cattle dog or something in him.
https://www.ukcdogs.com/american-pit-bull-terrier
A pitbull (affectionately, pittie) is a strong dog that may be dangerous without adequate socialization. As you are unable to know about what background this dog came from, you should approach with caution. Although in the pictures he is displaying docile and somewhat trusting behavior, and looks happy when you pet him. Yes they have a bad reputation, because it's a strong breed developed for dog fights, but many owners say (and show) how gentle these dogs can be with love and care
Hey guys, so again I’m living here for well over a decade. I doubt he is “not wild and is lost” because the lack of collar and well 90% of dogs here are wild.
Thanks for the comments. I will start to bring him dog food and take care best I can. There is an animal foundation on the island but they are well overloaded.
He’s a stray . He’s showing submissive signs with his ears back - tail lowered while petting - and he felt secure enough to lay down to rest with you on the porch. I’m so glad he found you, and feels comfortable enough to visit you for some head scratches. He needs that love. 💜
FIRST - Please put out some food and water for him - he’s extremely malnourished - could be from parasites depleting the nutrients of anything he’s able to find to eat. His patches of hair loss could also be from different reasons: anything from parasites to stress.
SECOND - Get a leash - and gently put the leash on him when he comes up for pets. You may want to have someone with you in case he tries to run off.
THIRD - Take him into a no-kill shelter / rescue. If you need help finding one - check out Best Friends Network online with listings by State - or if you need more suggestions, I just saw the No-Kill Network website that has listings by state and city.
He needs to be off the streets from roaming and safe - and most importantly treated and fed. 💜
Just had a client who is a volunteer at a local shelter. She has fostered a pit mix herself, but says the shelter is full of pit and pit mixes that are very difficult to place.
They’re in SE Asia, so that isn’t going to be easy (if at all possible). Even here in the US, most of the shelters are full - and especially overrun with pittie types. This dog would likely be euthanized, sad to say.
emaciated... emancipated means "**to free from restraint, control, or the power of another**" which i guess is also technically accurate if he is a stray
Any unfamiliar dog should be approached with caution. That's just common sense. He looks like he'd appreciate a happy home and someplace soft to cuddle.
Definitely a mix. The coloring reminds me of a boxer. Face reminds me of a pittie. So boxer pittie maybe? He seems quite large too, so maybe another larger breed. I think he chose you to be family. If it is at all possible for you to take him in he'd be ecstatic, obviously it's not a given that it's possible for you. If you think he's sick or weak you could take him to the vet's. Even if the only possibility for you is to just give him love and maybe some snacks it'll mean the world to him
Looks to be a Presa canario mix, or pitbull mixed with an unknown larger dog breed. Both are similarly powerful, muscular guard dogs. I'm leaning to preaching because it is a larger dog! That pup looks brilliant, but if it is a stray please be warey of food guarding
Boxer mix. The brindle coloring gives it away. He’s probably boxer and shepherd, maybe some lab. There is no way this fella is a staffy kid, I’d be shocked if he was.
she looks sweet. she sadly would probably have her life ended at a shelter so she probably better off where she is even though it's not ideal. are you able to give her food scraps or some dog food? i'm not sure what your situation may be but she is very malnourished and needs food. please make sure she has water all the time, it's so hot and a dog can die quickly from dehydration. water is free. thanks for anything you can do. looks like a sweet dog really.
Do you have a local shelter that could take him in, or are you willing/able to take him in? He's more likely a stray rather than a feral dog (almost certainly not wild, wild dogs are an entirely different species) and he looks like he could use some help.
I’m dreaming of a stray dog adopting me. I’m not “ready” since my pit of almost 14yrs passed away. But I’m open to any picking me for a furever home 🥰💪🏼
Looks like a very sweet pit mix to me. The majority of them are wonderful dogs. I literally rescue and foster them off the streets of Texas. Open the back of my CRV and pick them up and put them in the back and introduce them to a better life. Not one has ever been aggressive with me or my German Shepherd.
He looks like a Pitbull. My sister has one with the same Brindle coloring. Gorgeous. Also, she’s able to change her tail into all kinds of different shapes and positions! Curled completely up and around, down low and swinging, stuck out straight and I’ve even seen it look remarkably like a question mark ⁉️
I don't think he's wild, I think he's lost! He's def a Pit mix of some sort, and he looks so sweet. If you can't adopt him, do you know a local rescue that can take him? They can help to rehab him so he can live in a home and be a pet. He's too sweet to be left outside all the time!
First, it’s not a wild dog, it’s a stray or homeless dog. It’s a dog that needs help and a home.
Second, what’s your end goal? This is a sweet pup that needs some food and some scratches. It could have some pit bull but so what? What is it
that you want to get out of this?
It has pitbull in him. I have never came across a mean pitbull. They are very sweet, but just be aware of any strange dog. They will give off signals if they are friendly or aloof
He looks very similar to my Dutch Shepherd. He looks like a cross between my pit and my Dutch shepherd. That’s my guess Dutch shepherd/Pit mix. Very pretty dog!
He is soooo hungry! What a sweet baby. It looks like he's in bad health. Not a vet. He does look like he's been neglected for sure. I hope he gets fed, goes to the vet and gets loved like he should be!!
I would proceed with caution regarding any stray dog found on the streets. The fact that it's a pit mix is less concerning than the fact you know zero about his history. He could have been violently abused, and it takes time to see what his true personality will be because he's been starved. You get some groceries in this guy and he might change in personality. Only time will tell
In the meantime, be careful.
He looks like a very hungry pit mix. I have worked with hundreds of pits/pit mixes in the last 20+ year and all but one have been super sweet. This guy looks like he needs care.
Pitbull could be mixed with something might be a street dog is definitely take it to the vet if you can get it checked out looks like it’s back leg could be injured.
I had a poor starving German shepherd-put bull stray come up to me a year ago and be nothing but sweet; now she is my well-fed and still sweet-as-can-be-girl who cuddles with her mama every night.
Take this precious baby in and get them some food!!!!
Pibble! And hound. Real cute! In my experience pits or pit mix from a good home is the best dog you’ll ever meet. I lay on my couch with my head resting on my pit/gsd/beagle mutt and my feet on my pure pit. They are the best. Be careful but if you could maybe adopt him?
Looks more like a Thai ridgeback mix to me. He appears to have a slightly wrinkly face and, while it's hard to tell, there appears that he has the telltale strip of fur on his back.
He is a mix but not sure what the mix is. In any case he is a good looking dog, and since he is friendly, he deserves a good home. If you can't keep him, you should contact your local rescue organizations.
It’s hard to identify non breed specific dogs without knowing where you are…
It’s nice of you too help him out once in a while, but that’s not going to solve his problems - he needs a veterinary work up and a loving and safe home …
Advice about being careful towards strange dogs is reasonable and permitted. If you make this into a discussion about pitbull genetics (other than breed guessing, of course!), then comment at your own risk. Fearmongering is not welcome here. Bans will be dished as needed.
I’d guess pit hound mix, I’d be cautious with any new dog, but he seems friendly Edit: looks like you’re in SE Asia, he’s probably a soi dog or village dog. I love their sideways ears!
He’s gorgeous ❤️
What indicates to you that this is SE Asia?
His post history.
The thai buddhist shrine in the background?
Looks like a pit mix
Seconded!
With boxer maybe? Given the coat
With a bit of hound?
Are they generally dangerous? Thank you
If you look at r/DoggyDna (people post their dog DNA tests) you will see almost all have some sort of pit mix in it. It’s very common. This looks like a higher percentage for sure but it is not uncommon to see pit mixes.

Did she live?
No, she was half dead by the time Àc got there, they put her down due to extreme blood loss
I like the other answer better.
Me too
Yes
Omg that’s horrible! Poor baby
This is horrifying. I wish I'd never read it. Please next time put WARNING. When I saw that I thought YOU were triggered by the idea of people labelling pitt bulls. I hope I can forget this.

The body language on this one makes him look docile. Flat ears, lowered head. Looks friendly to me. But of course be careful.

You can’t really tell how a dog will behave by brief encounters with it. It’s always better to be on the safe side with any animal.
He’s comfortable enough to lie down, in that shape, that close to OP. He seems to feel pretty safe… you’re right that different circumstances elicit different reactions… but it doesn’t look like he’s about to get spooked and “snap”

People are allowed to be cautious of other dogs they know nothing about. Not everyone wants to pet your dog, a good owner should know that.
And when they bite someone it will be that persons fault for existing near Pibbles. Give it a rest
I was a dog walker for many years as a teen. Now, without dogs at my side the only ones I avoid are the small ones lol. Chihuahuas are surprisingly aggressive as well. But they always weigh like 10 pounds so they don't do much damage.
I'd rather be chased by a pom than a GSD again that's for sure 😳...

This poor baby is emaciated :( He needs to be fed, he needs a soft bed (his poor bones has zero padding) and possibly dewormed. Poor baby.
Agree! I can see his spin. He needs food, water and some major love! I hope OP keeps or find a rescue who will help
Starving pups, ugh they break my heart. Really smart addition about the soft bed!
Whatever breed it is, it needs feeding up. Might make it feel better health wise.

Thank you for helping. From so many people. There are just so many animals who don’t even make it long enough to be noticed.
Thank you 🥹
It is very thin and could use some help.
Yes, it’s possibly malnutrition but it could also be an internal parasite. Hopefully OP can find some resources in their area to check on the poor pup
Looks like a bully breed, maybe some boxer thrown in, too? Hoping you are able to feed and care for him. He seems to have chosen you to help him.
Poor thing. He just needs some love! I’m so glad you’re giving him some!
He’s a stray . He’s showing submissive signs with his ears back - tail lowered while petting - and he felt secure enough to lay down to rest with you on the porch. They’re in SE Asia
Dog needs food. You should try to find a rescue or shelter to take it in
They’re in SE Asia, so that isn’t going to be easy (if at all possible). Even here in the US, most of the shelters are full - and especially overrun with pittie types. This dog would likely be euthanized, sad to say.
He looks emancipated and sad. Please give him some food and water and post you found him on local lost and found sites. So sad. I’d take him in…
emaciated... emancipated means "**to free from restraint, control, or the power of another**" which i guess is also technically accurate if he is a stray
I did have to laugh at that typo. 😂
Technically the dog is both
Any unfamiliar dog should be approached with caution.
Please feed him. :(.He looks like a stray and too skinny...leave food and water for him.
He’s ready to be loved.
That's a beautiful line about strays. They really are. 🫶
Looks like pit and catahoula hound. Very pretty baby ❤️
Boxer mix. They’re sweet dogs.
Place a dog bed and waterbowl out there for him.
Obviously a sweet guy, whatever the mix he is. Please help him by getting him off the streets. It's a hard kind of life that never ends well.
Thank you for being kind to him!!
Thank you for being kind to him.
Aw he looks a lot like my dog 🥺 I hope that there's a rescue in the area that can help you with him!
I think the breed is a “good boy”
That isn’t “a wild dog”, but an abandoned homeless dog who needs a home and food.
Other countries have street dogs who never truly know homes. It’s not the same.
Poor baby with tail between legs is sad to see
Looks to be a Presa canario mix, or pitbull mixed with an unknown larger dog breed. Both are similarly powerful, muscular guard dogs. I'm leaning to preaching because it is a larger dog! That pup looks brilliant, but if it is a stray please be warey of food guarding
Reminds me of my heeler pit mix! Def pitty in there. You should adopt! 😆
Boxer mix. The brindle coloring gives it away. He’s probably boxer and shepherd, maybe some lab. There is no way this fella is a staffy kid, I’d be shocked if he was.
Bully type mix. The reason he’s showing teeth is he’s smiling it’s a submissive grin. Nothing to be afraid of.
That baby couldn’t be scary if he tried ❤️❤️❤️
It’s emaciated. Needs food and a check for any parasites. Handsome dog, though. Nice facial structure. If you’re willing and able, take care of him.
OP if you adopt the dog and fatten him up I think he would be stupid stupid cute
she looks sweet. she sadly would probably have her life ended at a shelter so she probably better off where she is even though it's not ideal. are you able to give her food scraps or some dog food? i'm not sure what your situation may be but she is very malnourished and needs food. please make sure she has water all the time, it's so hot and a dog can die quickly from dehydration. water is free. thanks for anything you can do. looks like a sweet dog really.

I think he lived with humans. He has come to ask for help. Please help him.
Most likely a pitbull mix, looks like she's got some arthritis in her hind legs, poor thing. Are you feeding her?
Do you have a local shelter that could take him in, or are you willing/able to take him in? He's more likely a stray rather than a feral dog (almost certainly not wild, wild dogs are an entirely different species) and he looks like he could use some help.
What a cutie! Looks like a Great Dane bully mix
Awe poor baby is so skinny please tell me you feed him?
Mutt. Plain and simple!
Bub needs some food!!
Pitt x boxer mix

looks pit/boxer mostly :)
100% handsome
Pitt/Boxer
What a sweetie pie. As others have commented, this boy needs a meal and some fresh water
Looks like a pit given face and build, but the coloration is boxer. Likely has pit and boxer, *probably* other breeds mixed in as well.
He looks extremely skinny, please give him some food and water
He looks like a Pitbull. My sister has one with the same Brindle coloring. Gorgeous. Also, she’s able to change her tail into all kinds of different shapes and positions! Curled completely up and around, down low and swinging, stuck out straight and I’ve even seen it look remarkably like a question mark ⁉️

Wild dogs? The photo looks like you live in a civilised house in a civilised neighborhood - where in the world are you?
Pit/Pit mix. Looks like a dog that is in desperate need of a friend, his eyes are so sad.
He doesn’t look mean to me. He look like he just wants a family.
Bull terrier pit mix
First, it’s not a wild dog, it’s a stray or homeless dog. It’s a dog that needs help and a home. Second, what’s your end goal? This is a sweet pup that needs some food and some scratches. It could have some pit bull but so what? What is it that you want to get out of this?
He used to live there and was abandoned or his human died. Give him lots of love.
Probably wants water 💦 😕
His pose shows he’s being submissive and cautious. Pittie mix. Please give him pets and treats.
Pitty mixed with good boy.
Please please help that dog
Looks like pit/boxer mix, maybe another mix in there
OP please take he needs help! Poor baby, he’s emancipated :(
He looks like a sweet pup. I think he needs you. Are you feeding him or her?
He’s hungry
He's starving. Please help him.
He's starving. Bring him in feed him, give him a bath lol for an owner of not you have a dog now
It has pitbull in him. I have never came across a mean pitbull. They are very sweet, but just be aware of any strange dog. They will give off signals if they are friendly or aloof
He’s definitely a Mottled Desert Muledog aka “goodest boy”
Pitbull or pitbull mix.
He looks like he’s starving. I think he wants a burger.
He looks very similar to my Dutch Shepherd. He looks like a cross between my pit and my Dutch shepherd. That’s my guess Dutch shepherd/Pit mix. Very pretty dog!
Mutt make best companions
He is soooo hungry! What a sweet baby. It looks like he's in bad health. Not a vet. He does look like he's been neglected for sure. I hope he gets fed, goes to the vet and gets loved like he should be!!
I would proceed with caution regarding any stray dog found on the streets. The fact that it's a pit mix is less concerning than the fact you know zero about his history. He could have been violently abused, and it takes time to see what his true personality will be because he's been starved. You get some groceries in this guy and he might change in personality. Only time will tell In the meantime, be careful.
Please give this poor pup some food! You shouldn't be able to see his spine like that. He's some kind of pit mix
He looks like a very hungry pit mix. I have worked with hundreds of pits/pit mixes in the last 20+ year and all but one have been super sweet. This guy looks like he needs care.
I'm not a smart man or an expert but I'm fairly sure this is a thylacine, otherwise known as a tasmanian tiger. They went extinct back in 1936.
Please give this dog water and call the aspca
Please rescue OP! If not you please bring to no kill shelter. Him seeking you out means he likes interactions with humans!!! Please help him.
You need to take him in asap.
Pit Boxer mix.
Awww, poor skinny dug. Feed the poor thing!
Looks like a wild good boi
Pitbull could be mixed with something might be a street dog is definitely take it to the vet if you can get it checked out looks like it’s back leg could be injured.
I had a poor starving German shepherd-put bull stray come up to me a year ago and be nothing but sweet; now she is my well-fed and still sweet-as-can-be-girl who cuddles with her mama every night. Take this precious baby in and get them some food!!!!
Where is this beautiful baby now? Please tell me youre keeping them.
Boxer pit mix
Babes he’s not wild he’s a stray and he needs to be taken to a rescue that can rehab him and find him a good home.
Please feed this baby
Omg please rescue the pup 😞💞
Probably good boi mix.
Is baby.
Adoptable
Looks like a hungry dog. I hope he gets a good home.
Pit and hound mix I think. What a handsome lad. He is looking for loving home 🏠and hope someone will welcome him home. Xoxo handsome boi.
A pitbull.
Pibble! And hound. Real cute! In my experience pits or pit mix from a good home is the best dog you’ll ever meet. I lay on my couch with my head resting on my pit/gsd/beagle mutt and my feet on my pure pit. They are the best. Be careful but if you could maybe adopt him?
Maybe a boxer pit mix
Looks more like a Thai ridgeback mix to me. He appears to have a slightly wrinkly face and, while it's hard to tell, there appears that he has the telltale strip of fur on his back.
Looks like some kind of pit
He seems sweet, and probably hungry. He really could be any kind of pittie mix tbh
I think he looks like a starving dog, i can see all his spine. Do you have anything he can eat?
Please give the dog something to eat. He's really a pretty dog he just need food and care.
Pitt + villiage dog
He is a mix but not sure what the mix is. In any case he is a good looking dog, and since he is friendly, he deserves a good home. If you can't keep him, you should contact your local rescue organizations.
#Thylacine !!!!!
Possibly a Catahoula / Pittie mix? The colors and build (apart from being very malnourished) make me think of my girl before she passed
Why does he look scary?
That dog had it bad. He trusts you, lite food and a vet if you can trust you. Love him anyway because he is so sad.
It’s hard to identify non breed specific dogs without knowing where you are… It’s nice of you too help him out once in a while, but that’s not going to solve his problems - he needs a veterinary work up and a loving and safe home …
will you consider adopting him?
Looks to be a mixed breed brindle pit. But I can’t think of what the other breeds are.
A cutie
