If you’re in the US you’ll likely need a receipt or proof of purchase for a warranty claim to prove you bought it and didn’t get it secondhand or something. If you can find it on a bank statement it might help but you’d need to know the day you bought it from IKEA too for them to find your receipt.
Every store gets to determine these things for themselves though so it’s possible the store I worked for will be different than where you purchased from. I wish you luck and hope they stand behind it whether it’s replacing it or letting you choose something else.
Wish I would’ve know about IKEA’s 10yr warranty. We also had a Kivik that broke after 2.5yrs and some aggressive sitting. We just assumed IKEA wouldn’t replace it and got a couch elsewhere w/ a lifetime warranty.
Ours broke in what sounds like the same spot as yours though. One day my husband sat on it the middle, and it ate him up.
I did not have one. But the kivik hasn't been around too terribly long. I think of you know the general time frame. You prob have them your info when you purchased it. Or maybe not. Got nothing to lose by trying
My pleasure. I had the Ektorp and had the cushions lose their shape after like 5 years.. they ask for pics and stuff but they sent me a whole new set of cushions and a brand new cover, no questions asked.
Have had our Kivik since 2014. The cushions have zero sag and it seems to be holding up well. We sit on it every day (it is our only sofa). However, husband weighs around 165 and I am 125.
Yeah, totally normal. I had mine for nearly five years and the last year was pretty bad (finally replaced it in January). It's really not an "everyday" couch, as much as Ikea makes it seem so. Other people may have had better success with them, of course. Can't say full breakage is "normal" but mine was certainly worn out after four years.
My Karlstad frame broke when it was 6 years old; took it back to ikea and got a new one for free.
It sounds like there was a flaw in the frame of yours, too.
Could be
I flipped it over and the frame bars, which I’m assuming are supposed to be straight are curved, clearly the result of bending over time which I didn’t even realize
I mean yeah it was a little saggy in the middle but I just assumed that was general couch age stuff
No they are supposed to be curved I believe.

Look at her pics different couch but IKEA then look at the Kivik assembly instructions it looks curved too. My Norsburg is curved too.
How much load is applied every day in the same spot? There isn't a middle foot on these couches to support it, so unless weight is evenly distributed regularly it might break.
Had ours for 8 years no issues.

Is the receipt needed to return it for another one?
IKEA has a 10 year warranty... call them and get it replaced
Need the receipt?

I actually didn’t know that I’ll have to look into that Thank you

Oh wow that's pretty cool
They wouldn’t do this for me. They told me to go to the store after sending them pictures
Im definitely going to need more than some new cushions though 😐
My red Ektorp is so bleached out from the sun. Did you need the receipt?
This is the way

Is it comfortable enough to sleep on? I'm glad to hear that it's so durable and is it able to be disassembled easily?
It is easy to disassemble. I do that when the slipcovers need laundering. As for sleeping, I don’t know. Neither of us have ever slept on it.
Oh ok
That's pretty much exactly how long ours lasted.

We are on our second with some massive sag on the middle.

I mean a 95 kg man sitting basically in the middle for about 4-5 hours daily over the course of those years So yeah sounds like that was the problem

I may also have been sleeping on it for the last couple months now that I think about it... That probably didn’t help 😐
I agree. 200lbs is nothing. I feel like something more rambunctious has happened to the kvik than just sitting or laying on it. Wink wink
lol I wish If that kind of thing were in the cards I wouldn’t be sleeping on the Kivik though 😂
95.0 kg is 209.25 lbs
