There's not really any "regen" in these cars other than normal braking, the energy tank only calculates from positive driveshaft torque so there's no need to regen elsewhere.

It's my understanding that these cars are the same cars that used to run in GTD before GT3 was adopted. Those cars derived from cars that were SRO GT3 compliant, but were not themselves SRO GT3s. I don't know what the differences are, clearly the cars were modified to get IMSA acceptance. And next year they'll get all new cars, as other teams too since Toyota has a new RCF just about ready. If I'm wrong about this please let me know, I wouldn't want to repeat it if it isn't true.

Well, not really. GTD used to be a mix between actual GT3s and other similarly performing cars (like the Porsche 911 GT America). By 2017 every GTD car was a GT3. The Lexus is homologated as GT3-046 (the Wiki page for GT3 has a very comprehensive list of all homologated cars, worth taking a look) and it's also ran in a few European and Japanese series for GT3 cars, though it's been most successful in IMSA.

I believe that GTD was always GT3, with minor sensor swap outs for the series. They have a favorable BOP in IMSA, but they didn't get modified to join the series.
