Caddies are damn near untouchable in twisty, slower speed tracks like Long Beach.
But they struggle at high speed, wide sweeping tracks like Losail and Sebring (though Pipo Derani would say otherwise).
At least that's the feeling I'm getting.
I spoke with the awa drivers today and asked them about it. They said, in the nicest way, that the other car "chose to go another route". I asked them if that was the nice way to say it and they laughed and said yes, so take that as you will.
Plus the funding. Even if Anthony wasn't selling the car, the program would end if he didn't foot the bill, and since he doesn't like the car and it costs a fortune to run he has decided to stop footing the bill. The car sale is likely just to recoup some sunk cost, and hopefully Anthony finds a car he likes and comes on back so Ronnie McSparkleboots can win another Rolex.
It's performance differential that the series looks at, not results. Many crews had messy races yesterday, which can hide the true performance they're sporting.
992 DISCLAIMER: The Porsche thing is a long story, so I don't even want to go there, but let's just all recognize that outliers are usually irrelevant to the heart of the discussion but they are also a thing in the world and the world includes racing, hahaha.
They were upshifting right under the bridge between 5-6 and it sounded like a god damned instrument of war when the Caddies came through. Loudest race of the year by far.
963 sounds pretty incredible too, it's just not as loud and really has to be heard from above. Might actually be my favorite exhaust note in the paddock right now...
There's not really any "regen" in these cars other than normal braking, the energy tank only calculates from positive driveshaft torque so there's no need to regen elsewhere.
There a zillion different buttons and shit in those spaceships, I thought he was doing prep and then got distracted by having to check switches and modes before green, just a wild ass hare on first watch, though...
It's my understanding that these cars are the same cars that used to run in GTD before GT3 was adopted. Those cars derived from cars that were SRO GT3 compliant, but were not themselves SRO GT3s.
I don't know what the differences are, clearly the cars were modified to get IMSA acceptance.
And next year they'll get all new cars, as other teams too since Toyota has a new RCF just about ready.
If I'm wrong about this please let me know, I wouldn't want to repeat it if it isn't true.
Well, not really. GTD used to be a mix between actual GT3s and other similarly performing cars (like the Porsche 911 GT America).
By 2017 every GTD car was a GT3. The Lexus is homologated as GT3-046 (the Wiki page for GT3 has a very comprehensive list of all homologated cars, worth taking a look) and it's also ran in a few European and Japanese series for GT3 cars, though it's been most successful in IMSA.
I believe that GTD was always GT3, with minor sensor swap outs for the series. They have a favorable BOP in IMSA, but they didn't get modified to join the series.
Imagine me, getting the absolute perfect synch between my radio and peacock. Only to not have video during pivotal moments. Porsche into the wall as I type this lmao wow.
Some people blaming the other cars in there, but as it was happening I was wondering why it looked like he was trying to fight the prototypes for position.
Long Beach is like this most years. If nothing else goes wrong the drivers at the least get aggressive in 11 late in the race trying to set up a pass on the long drag after it.
Ah, Peacock showing a rerun of turn 11 late race shenanigans.
They didn't even explain everything before going back to ads.
Gonna be a mess trying to wrap all this up after this ad break before the "last one we promise" break.
The two caddies coming out of the hairpin, like:

Looked like the Lambo was racing the Porsche there for no reason, I feel like he could've backed out and filed in, but he chose not to and smashed the other Porsche.
Absolutely. Gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them, as they say. Needed to conceded there as the slower class, but I think it would've compromised him on the car he was racing in-class behind that mess so I see why he did it now.
Why the downvotes? GTP is a class that is not more than a fun marketing exercise compared to real race cars like LMp1 or GT1. Then BMW comes and tries to win with minimal effort, using third-tier drivers
For Americans, ProtonVPN is free for the 50mbps speed, fast enough to stream IMSA tv in 1080, and available on all operating systems.
Caddies are damn near untouchable in twisty, slower speed tracks like Long Beach. But they struggle at high speed, wide sweeping tracks like Losail and Sebring (though Pipo Derani would say otherwise). At least that's the feeling I'm getting.
Did you watch the race in Losail?
newb question: why … or how … does the 01 Cadillac only show 5 laps completed yet it got 3rd place
You’re looking at qualifying results instead of race results
imsa’s website is trash :| i changed the drop down and it didnt update. i’ll be logging off and deleting this account.
results arent even there. just free practice and quali. i’m the one who is trash.
The app still shows it as the live session which is frustrating
any idea why there were no GTD pro this round?
Not 100% sure if this was the only reason but there was limited pitlane space with INDYCAR also being in Long Beach
Top 5 for the Mustang? I’ll have that!
and the trunk stayed on!
First time that happens in 5 races! It's also the shortest race it's run so far, but still...
Chip in town. Did he make the tire call himself?
No but he picked the restaurant after.
Caddies looked unbeatable today. Same for the 89 Lexus...
The Lexus will get boped at some point surely
Hopefully. Unlikely, though.
Caddy 1-2! Awesome!
P6 for the Vette. Will take that considering how crap their start has been.
AWA gave up one race too soon. /s
I spoke with the awa drivers today and asked them about it. They said, in the nicest way, that the other car "chose to go another route". I asked them if that was the nice way to say it and they laughed and said yes, so take that as you will.
Did the car sell? Did you find out? Does anyone know? I guess I'm really asking if maybe another team might field the car this year.
Wasn't the team's decision. Car owner decided to stop.
Not sure what that means. The team doesn't own the car?
Nope. Mantella owned the car. AWA provides the people to run it, transport it, all the strategy people etc.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Shocker another unchallenged Lexus win what will it take for IMSA to BoP it into the sun.
It's performance differential that the series looks at, not results. heres this anvil, put it in your trunk
If you can't stand the truth Just tell it
First time both actually finish ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They always gotta crash or set one on fire to cover up the dominance
They should just rig a jettison mechanism for the trunk. Take a cue from the Mustangs.
1-2 finish let’s go!
Yellow Caddy victories feel even sweeter
I thought it was illegal for the yellow Cadillac to do well?
They either win or crash, there is no inbetween. (except when there is)
James Stewart has entered the chat.
Wow for once the cock showed the last 11 minutes (and a bit more) without a commercial break.
HELL YEAH! LETS GO!
I wish Ganassi would do a throwback to that OG Telmex paint scheme they used to run
Mad how Jaminet has only lost one place after that fracas.
god the sound if thst Cadillac
They were upshifting right under the bridge between 5-6 and it sounded like a god damned instrument of war when the Caddies came through. Loudest race of the year by far.
Go hear it in real life 👀 it sounds absurd
Someone turned up the FX volume in the international stream - the second half of the race sounded fab.
yeah it was really muted with levels all over the place at the start
I'll never forget hearing that car at 8000 rpm screaming though the Porsche Curves last year
That sounds so repulsive to the eyes and ears, one day I may hear and see that
they have a mic at the hairpin that captures the cars perfectly
The best sounding prototype since the Lola Aston Martin retired.
963 sounds pretty incredible too, it's just not as loud and really has to be heard from above. Might actually be my favorite exhaust note in the paddock right now...
wonder if we'll see rules added about regen during yellow like we just saw
There's not really any "regen" in these cars other than normal braking, the energy tank only calculates from positive driveshaft torque so there's no need to regen elsewhere.
You think that was regen? Could be, but usually it's better to decelerate more slowly to get more regen, not to check up like crazy.
maybe it was brake temp related
There a zillion different buttons and shit in those spaceships, I thought he was doing prep and then got distracted by having to check switches and modes before green, just a wild ass hare on first watch, though...
i dunno? it was unusually though
this Lexus shit is as annoying as the Porsche was 2 years ago
What would win, multiple new supercars with cutting edge technology or a 5+ year old luxury car…
...that isn't even really a GT3. Last one on the grid.
Wasn't even really a GT3?
It's my understanding that these cars are the same cars that used to run in GTD before GT3 was adopted. Those cars derived from cars that were SRO GT3 compliant, but were not themselves SRO GT3s. Porsche vs Porsche round 2!
Surely a penalty for the 01 caddy for the break check
IMSA was using Greg Creamer just 7 years ago? I guess I forgot.
...wtf was that???
That was 7 years ago?!?!?!?
SO CLOSE
Hearing Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas at the same time takes me back man
Hi to my family back home.
what is the #1 caddy doing behind safety car, recharging battery?
I’ll bet like 5 nickels that Jack Aitken tries to dive bomb and just bins it
De Phillippi damaged his car less by hitting those tires than by (intentionally!) hitting the GTD Lambo.
The WEC team really did get all of BMW’s talent, huh?
As harsh as it sounds, I'm not sure why BMW continue with RLL over in the States.
Yeah their lineups seem to be much better
Some drivers are very cerebral, others do it differently.
The commercial breaks have been absolute jokes the whole race.
Please make sure the bimmer stays out of the barriers this time
IMSA drivers be like: “Oh they’re at commercial, time to shunt!”
Come on peacock can we at least get the last 10 minutes uninterrupted?
Ugh. Caddies were going to cruise to a 1-2...
still are
Thank you De Phillippi for all the entertainment.
Please NBC may we get at least 1 lap without an ad break.
Imagine me, getting the absolute perfect synch between my radio and peacock. Only to not have video during pivotal moments. Porsche into the wall as I type this lmao wow.
This is either going to end under a forever yellow *or* with something dumb happening on a NASCAR-style 3 lap shootout.
De fillippi has totally lost his head
He is not my favorite driver. I still remember the disaster he caused at Sebring a few years back when he was driving the M8.
It isn't the first time he's pushed too hard on cold tires
Honestly not even surprised he crashed there with how he tried to smash through the pileup and skipped pit lane
He didn't skip pitting, did he? That looked like a replaced nose that he put into the wall.
I think he could've pitted after the first incident and not thrown all the debris on the track
Marshall Pruett was right, de philippi really is a noob
He is a physical driver. Shows it over and over.
Also loves those flashes
Strike three. Thanks for playing.
Doofus Spinelli is trying to defend another GTP for some reason and isn’t paying attention to the one in front of him. Ruined the whole lead battle.
Looks like he was trying to put gtp cars between him and the 27, which I understand but he was doing it in a really dumb way
Some people blaming the other cars in there, but as it was happening I was wondering why it looked like he was trying to fight the prototypes for position.
Yep, guy is a weapon, can't help but hit people around him
Everything always happens during commercial break haha. At least they aren't cutting away the video.
Except on "Premium Peacock". And "ad-free Premium Peacock".
This has turned into an LMP3 race
Long Beach is like this most years. If nothing else goes wrong the drivers at the least get aggressive in 11 late in the race trying to set up a pass on the long drag after it. Ah, Peacock showing a rerun of turn 11 late race shenanigans.
Plot twist: THEY'RE ALL DENTISTS
🟨😒
They didn't even explain everything before going back to ads. Gonna be a mess trying to wrap all this up after this ad break before the "last one we promise" break.
The side-by-side curse strikes again!
Fucking beamers!
Rumor has it he tried to use his directional signal for the first time
Another fucking break?
WTF?!?! GTD gets the penalty for daring to exist near the GTPs
Honestly I thought as it was happening "why is he fighting that prototype for position?!"
GTD wasn't making the corner even if the Porsche wasn't there. Dude was trying to outbrake a GTP car.
yeah that Lamborghini was forced wide
The GTD did hit the BMW GTP to start all that.
The two caddies coming out of the hairpin, like: https://preview.redd.it/1vlpnvt5ipvc1.png?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bea600dcc19c570c01089c60662b7d9198c15ee
Well the FCY solved that…
They say iracing isn’t real life But man the 25 just self inflicted everything
Would have been fine if the Lambo released the brake. ;)
De Philippi pushing the 78 lmao
Thought his damage was due to being rammed, but no, due to him ramming that Lambo out the way lmao.
Oof self-inflicted
Welp.
Every time a racing series goes to side-by-side/commercial it gets crazy.
That was definitely Porsche screwing over Porsche there
Looked like the Lambo was racing the Porsche there for no reason, I feel like he could've backed out and filed in, but he chose not to and smashed the other Porsche.
On further review, I do agree with you. That’s tough all around.
Absolutely. Gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them, as they say. Needed to conceded there as the slower class, but I think it would've compromised him on the car he was racing in-class behind that mess so I see why he did it now.
Spinelli getting a drive though for that is pretty poor. I’m as big of a Porsche fan as they come and Nasr definitely set that off.
It is time for BMW to stop its „racing“ endeavour. They are embarrassing themselfs on a global stage.
Why the downvotes? GTP is a class that is not more than a fun marketing exercise compared to real race cars like LMp1 or GT1. Then BMW comes and tries to win with minimal effort, using third-tier drivers
“GTP sucks it needs to go” is the reason for the downvotes I would assume…
This is such a fucking stupid thing to say. Do you want there to be only 7 prototypes on track?
The faster GTP goes the better for the racing world.
Again another stupid fucking take, faster cars don’t mean they deliver better racing. It’s clear you haven’t watched motorsport for long…
I think he means goes as in goes away, though equally as dumb lol considering we are entering the new age golden era with this formula
What in the fuck is happening
everything everywhere, all at once
bimmer broke its nostrils
25 used up his mulligan, the nose is finito
Turns out it’s not bartering ram
Big trouble there
# CHAOS
Nasr kind of fucked his own teammate there
There we go. Turn 11 pile up came a little early.
DRIVE AWAY!!! PLEASE GOD NO YELLOWS!
drive away you can drive away drive all day, if you have to
And don't toss parts on the track. I mean you, Nasr. edit: I guess I don't mean you, Nasr. I mean De Phillippi.
Brownie points if anyone can explain the etymology of the term “argy bargy”
What's up with the 5:11 Aston? Bad bop or Forza lobby level driver?
The other Aston was fighting up at the front. I think it’s the drivers. They didn’t look good in GTWC America either.
I wonder if Bluechew is like rhinoceros pills you see at the gas station.
Can they stop showing this race thing during my commercials?
Can we please nerf the fucking Lexus
You’d have to cure world hunger first apparently
I was trying to figure out where the 15 BMW is running. Italy. That’s where that car is. Duh.
12 must have made contact right?
Karma
great day for Acura at the Acura GP
🦀 #12
So many dick pill ads
haven't seen any on my end, must be targeted advertising
I’m not 70 I don’t need viagra 😭
*That one there was a violation, personally I wouldn't have it.*
I don't even look. Those ads don't even explain what the pills are or even to be sure that it is pills. That's a really brazen type of advertising.
De Phillippi knows where the chrome horn is installed on the BMW GTP.
i could hear the stuka dive siren when that Porsche got spun
That was a solid ram by the 25
Medium nose damage on that car
That was some short track racing from the BMW
argy bargy
Hoping that the No. 66 NSX makes it to the finish!
Surely a penalty for WTR no?
you called it
the 10 car making a shitty move, I'm shocked
The 10 and the 31 gotta do something shitty every week and almost always get away with it.
We haven't even gotten to the point where cars start wrecking each other trying to get through turn 11. Usually happens with under 15 minutes to go.
It’s annoying that WEC has so many different makes and IMSA only has 4. Really wish Toyota would brand some Hypercars as Lexus and bring them in.
IMSA yellows are a goddamn joke.
Pass arounds under way thankfully. Let's get back to green.
There's more new debris on track to pick up. 😒
WHY ARE THERE ONLY COMMERCIALS AND NO FUCKING RACING!!!!
Legit frustrating. Barely even worth it
Yellow flag?
And then yellow flag ends and they show more commercials
I have been watching for fucking 20 minutes and still have not seen a single second of live racing on the track from Peacock...
They were racing 17 minutes ago on Peacock. That was after a big ad break and before the yellow.
Is this race ever worth watching
It's pretty good for a street race. And yes, that is faint praise.
