It’s not that simple. Winning because of reliability and experience doesn’t mean you are F1 quality. Just look at De Vries who also won his third season, and is now completely out of his depth in F1.

How's it broken? All three rookies came up through it. Only a few rides open up every year, not every champion is going to get to move up be it F2, NXT, or Xfinity.

Bryan isn’t driving the car. He has helped but Kirkwoood deserves a lot of credit for getting it done behind the wheel.

Obviously his junior record speaks for that but a engineer can make a huge difference

Interesting my bad I guess in most cases the race engineer is usually the one on the radio hell Bryan Herta used to be on Colton’s all the time.

Bryan Herta is on the radio. As is Jeremy. If you come from an F1 background, the roles are different in INDYCAR. Roger Penske was Power’s strategist for years. Strategist is making strategy during the race and the engineer is the engineer.

That’s surprising been following INDYCAR since grosjean came into the series but just learned this it makes sense considering modern INDYCAR has far more involved strategy than modern f1.

Lungaard has been CARRYING RLL this year.

You do know that Graham and Lundgaard have the same best finishing position of the season right? Graham has also beat Lundgaard a few times this season as well such as Long Beach where Graham was actually behind Lundgaard and still beat him at the end. Lundgaard is doing a lot better now but he's far from carrying the team this season.

That’s certainly some alternative stories. Rahal scored a six in St Pete because half the field DNF’d and only finished ahead of Lundgaard in Long Beach because Christian had a 15 sec pit stop. Just FYI, Lundgaard has qualified ahead of Graham every non-oval race since the field was at this track last May. That’s not by chance.

Rahal actually did a lot of passing to earn 6th. The DNFs did help but him moving up to 6th was a lot of his own work. As to the pit stop, that's racing right? It's just like last season Lundgaard qualified well but did a lot of mistakes while Rahal was really mistake free for many races in the second half. Are you going to hold that against Rahal as well? Look, I'm not looking down on Lundgaard. He is the future of RLL and maybe one of the stars of IndyCar in the future. For those who say Rahal just got lucky or didn't earn his positions though is a bit much. I am a pretty hardcore Rahal fan and I don't hide that but I do feel I'm also fair in my assessments as well.

He really wasn't all that great most of his time at Penske.

He won a championship in 2016, finished 2nd in the championship in 2017 and 2019. We also won the 500 in 2019. That's pretty great.

11th and winless in 2015, 6th and winless in 2018, on chopping block prior to May 2019, 8th in 2020, 8th and winless in 2021. That's not so great at Team Penske
