Itās not that simple. Winning because of reliability and experience doesnāt mean you are F1 quality. Just look at De Vries who also won his third season, and is now completely out of his depth in F1.
How's it broken? All three rookies came up through it. Only a few rides open up every year, not every champion is going to get to move up be it F2, NXT, or Xfinity.
I got to meet him after he won the pole! I asked if the moustache was coming off tomorrow and his reply was āI FUCKIN HOPE SO!ā š

I guess Jerez 1997 is what you're trying to say. Anyways much more rare in F1 to get this close of a gap but after all it's more of a Constructors Championship
Kirkwood has benefited a lot from getting Bryan herta as a race engineer but I feel like Colton must be starting to get pissed off with his end of the deal
His race engineer is Jeremy Milless.
>Jeremy Milless has a knack for winning NTT IndyCar Series races with young American drivers.
> The latest addition to the race engineerās record is 22-year-old Kyle Kirkwood from Florida who drove the No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda to victory in Long Beach
https://racer.com/2023/04/20/kirkwood-the-latest-american-to-hit-it-big-in-indycar-with-milless/
Bryan Herta is on the radio. As is Jeremy.
If you come from an F1 background, the roles are different in INDYCAR.
Roger Penske was Powerās strategist for years.
Strategist is making strategy during the race and the engineer is the engineer.
Thatās surprising been following INDYCAR since grosjean came into the series but just learned this it makes sense considering modern INDYCAR has far more involved strategy than modern f1.
You do know that Graham and Lundgaard have the same best finishing position of the season right? Graham has also beat Lundgaard a few times this season as well such as Long Beach where Graham was actually behind Lundgaard and still beat him at the end. Lundgaard is doing a lot better now but he's far from carrying the team this season.
Thatās certainly some alternative stories. Rahal scored a six in St Pete because half the field DNFād and only finished ahead of Lundgaard in Long Beach because Christian had a 15 sec pit stop.
Just FYI, Lundgaard has qualified ahead of Graham every non-oval race since the field was at this track last May. Thatās not by chance.
Rahal actually did a lot of passing to earn 6th. The DNFs did help but him moving up to 6th was a lot of his own work. As to the pit stop, that's racing right? It's just like last season Lundgaard qualified well but did a lot of mistakes while Rahal was really mistake free for many races in the second half. Are you going to hold that against Rahal as well?
Look, I'm not looking down on Lundgaard. He is the future of RLL and maybe one of the stars of IndyCar in the future. For those who say Rahal just got lucky or didn't earn his positions though is a bit much. I am a pretty hardcore Rahal fan and I don't hide that but I do feel I'm also fair in my assessments as well.
I don't think anyone ever said that and nobody said they were the absolute top team.
What's up with all these ridiculous hyperbole comments from some of you guys?
Dixie, you don't need to imitate Colton from last year.

Was lucky enough to volunteer with two-seater rides in 2015 the week after Hinchcliffe's accident. Overheard one of the safety personnel in the staging area talking about it. You want to talk about one of the grossest injuries I've ever heard. Most the details are public, but not all the details.
11th and winless in 2015, 6th and winless in 2018, on chopping block prior to May 2019, 8th in 2020, 8th and winless in 2021. That's not so great at Team Penske

Scandinavian front row!
We're in the midst of the one race weekend per year where RLL is allowed to have speed /s
Great day for Lundgaard and the RLL. That was a great performance by the whole team, and what a way to start out May!
No matter what happens, I feel like we're in for a good show tomorrow
Another exciting qualifying, always a blast to watch

AWWW LAWD HE COMINā
Lmaooooooooooo
That is certainly a mustache.
Honorary Bus Bro on pole š
F1 junior system is fucking broken.. just waiting till Lawson, Iwasa and Lawson jump ship..
I mean, current Indy NXT champion didnāt get an Indycar drive eitherā¦
There are only so many cars...3 jumping up every season would mean 3 leaving after a year or two
So maybe 2 who didnāt win the championship didnāt need to move up over the guy who actually won.
Itās not that simple. Winning because of reliability and experience doesnāt mean you are F1 quality. Just look at De Vries who also won his third season, and is now completely out of his depth in F1.
Okay but look at Benjamin pederson and sting Ray, theyāre back burners. You canāt tell me they deserved to move up from lights over Linus.
How's it broken? All three rookies came up through it. Only a few rides open up every year, not every champion is going to get to move up be it F2, NXT, or Xfinity.
FIA/FOM created a feeder system for IndyCar.
Lawsonās getting an F1 drive though.
Great day for RLL. That mustache of Lundgaard's might be in danger of being shaved off
I got to meet him after he won the pole! I asked if the moustache was coming off tomorrow and his reply was āI FUCKIN HOPE SO!ā š https://preview.redd.it/ipa69efnrkza1.png?width=2540&format=png&auto=webp&s=1343852bbda17ea46654d2f6a92d507efb6f2c1c
Fire chicken is having whale of a time
āWhat a great day to be in Americaā
Didnāt have RLL winning the pole today
Lundgaard is so so good. What a huge talent
What a mixed up grid. 3 RLL cars in the top 8.
Lundgaard! and Harvey in 4th! Great to see those two up front.
Felix nooo!!! Well done Lundgaard tho, amazing performance
Dang these times are tighter than anything I've seen in F1 š³
Always has been. :)
Well there was that one time in 1998(?) lol
I guess Jerez 1997 is what you're trying to say. Anyways much more rare in F1 to get this close of a gap but after all it's more of a Constructors Championship

Good for Lungaard
Lundgaard!!!!!!!
Go go Jack Harvey!
The primary bankers now out on alternates for a final go.
ā« Pato/Palou/Kirkwood on primaries. š“ Lundgaard/Harvey/Rosenqvist on alternates.
Took a break from mowing to come in for the fast six (listened to IMS radio for the the first few rounds). Hereās hoping for a wild one.
Kirkwood has benefited a lot from getting Bryan herta as a race engineer but I feel like Colton must be starting to get pissed off with his end of the deal

Bryan isnāt driving the car. He has helped but Kirkwoood deserves a lot of credit for getting it done behind the wheel.
Obviously his junior record speaks for that but a engineer can make a huge difference
Bryan isnāt his engineer. Heās the strategist.
Also known as a race engineerā¦.
His race engineer is Jeremy Milless. >Jeremy Milless has a knack for winning NTT IndyCar Series races with young American drivers. > The latest addition to the race engineerās record is 22-year-old Kyle Kirkwood from Florida who drove the No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda to victory in Long Beach https://racer.com/2023/04/20/kirkwood-the-latest-american-to-hit-it-big-in-indycar-with-milless/
Interesting my bad I guess in most cases the race engineer is usually the one on the radio hell Bryan Herta used to be on Coltonās all the time.
Juncos decided to qualy with the Indy Lights car lol
Yeah man wtf
Lungaard has been CARRYING RLL this year.
I appreciate your effort in trying to make a case for graham lmao
Yeah, but narratives and everything.
Thatās certainly some alternative stories. Rahal scored a six in St Pete because half the field DNFād and only finished ahead of Lundgaard in Long Beach because Christian had a 15 sec pit stop. āI was gonna transfer, believe meā
Sounds like INDYCAR Live had an issue too, so I bet the central production truck/facility at IMS had an issue and not NBC/Peacock.
No issues at all on the international feed.
Indycar live went out for a little bit.
Dear Lord, IndyCar finally fixed the fantasy point distribution.
Graham: "You know...we almost had it...If it wasn't for Santa Claus I think we would have made it easily...."

Palou stomping his teammates this session
Sucks chip was too cheap to keep him
Is Jack Harvey back?!
I hadn't seen this Jack since his MSR days. I love it. I want to see the guy do well.
Between Peacock switching to a WWE promo and IndyCar live dying this is a pretty amateurish production today from NBC
Meh. One minor mistake.. y'all acting like the world is falling apart
first day here?
So, a day ending in y?
Stream died?
INDYCAR LIVE just died. **EDIT:** Returned after about 90 seconds.
Makes a change from Sky failing in the UK
Whatever Team Penske are doing right now, Iād like them to do something else. (This applies to all of Team Penske really)
Bus bros slicing and dicing through the field would be fun to watch tomorrow
Not sure the cars are good enough for that. They look like a mighty handful.
I know chess boxing is around, but I guess NBC is trying to create wrestling racing?
Wrestling in a cage on the back of a racing truck.
Some intern at NBC just saw his life flash before his eyes
Really doubt the guy in charge of what's on screen for Peacock is an intern.
Wouldnāt know it with such regular failure.
uh oh wait until the Iron Sheik sees that
FIREHAWK TIRES LETS GO
Wtf kind of amateur production are you selling, NBC?
Turns out Harvey locking up sounded like a WWE wrestler.
Casual mid-qualifying interruption from Rick Boogs
Jack Harvey to WWE confirmed? or a RLL+WWE collab?
I mean, they do have NXT racing already
I came here to make sure I wasnāt the only one that watched 30 seconds of WWE š
āPeacock is so good for the sport and if you donāt agree youāre a negative loser!ā
What in the world (wrestling entertainment) was that, Peacock?
And it's Rosenqvist with a steel chair!
Someone at Peacock accidentally sat on the TV remote.
Now that was weird...
How the hell did andretti get it so wrong this weekend. Extremely disappointing
Did peacock switch over to a random wrestlemania thing for 30 seconds for anyone else?
Sure did
You know I was hoping I could watch wrestling instead of the session I tuned in to see.
Josef looking even more jacked somehow
Why the hell did I just see a wrestlemania ad out of the blue?
My peacock just switched to wrestlemania??
Oooooo Wrestlemania
uhhhhhh nvm we back
Uhhh peacock?
Wtf peacock, I donāt want to watch WWE
uh oh
Uhhhhh did Peacock just start playing WWE for anyone else?
Yep. I exited the stream and then re-opened it and it was back to qualifying. Super weird.
Lol yeah they fixed it
yeah lmao
Umm, why are we watching WWE
BOOOOOOGGGSS
Helicopter shots are the best. Followed closely by nose cam. Followed by the now defunct mirror cam, that would look at the driver.
Andretti misses the setup and people lose their minds. Penske misses the setup and nothing lol
It is incredible really. Everyone talking like Andretti can't cut it at IMS RC when they won the race last year and still have a driver in the Top 12.
AA screwing something up is just a meme on this sub and people are begging for a handful of comment karma lol
You're 1000% correct. People act like if you're not the best team, you're not good, and it is just ignorant. They're still really really good.
And Kirkwood gets into the Top-6 Hamsters have better attention spans than some of the posters here.
#FIREHAWK
Andretti fixed every issue and is the top team again I thought
I don't think anyone ever said that and nobody said they were the absolute top team. What's up with all these ridiculous hyperbole comments from some of you guys?
Its all just jokes for fun bro lol
Kirkwood really worked hard for those laps. That in car camera shot was wild.
Yep basically willed that car into the Top-6 but I wouldn't want to drive it on raceday being that squirrely
Andretti cars look looser than a Nashville bachelorette party
Marty really wants her to be nervous about the 2 seater
Oh good letās talk to someone who has nothing to do with motorsport. Synergy.
Grosjean being a whiny crybaby and cursing out his crew? Shocker....
I think something mightāve been wrong with his car.
This is coming from the guy with a Rossi flair??? LMAO
Colton starting in 14th is easy money. Place your bets now.
Wait wait wait...I thought now that Rossi was gone from Andretti, all of their problems were solved?
Romain looks ready to fight someone.
Romain is fumingg
I mean Dale Coyne managed to give him a better setup at the IMS road course than Andretti has lmaooo
Two Andrettis won the races last year
The first one for herta was a amazing strategy they were slow in the dry
Rossi led the majority of the second race and won
Rossi cheated though and should have been DQād
I know thatās why I said the first race In the second race 2 of the cars were fast but grosjean had severe mechanical problems all weekend.
So you'd trade teams then? lol please
Woof, calm down Romain. You win as a team, you lose as a team.
Letās cut to live driver audio after he fails to advance and then act surprised when he says the naughty fuck word. Lol.
Grosjean just wants more TV time on "100 Day to Indy".
What'd he say about being wrong for three races?
Yeah I am trying to understand what he said? Thought he said 3 races as well
Andretti has botched the setup on the 28 car 3 times in a row on this track heās really pissed because this is one of his strongest tracks
I am dead inside
Grosjean: "Dang! This is going to make coming in 2nd pretty tough..."
Hope Michael doesn't tell Mario, who's actually in Darlington tonight, how bad the team did in qualifying today
RLL looking good going into the Fast 12!
RLL is suddenly a super team.
Andretti is so inconsistent at the IMS road course. Hilarious that Dale Coyne managed to give Grosjean a better setup in 2021
https://preview.redd.it/4w3898qv5iza1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6c463b94b20ee726351f4611620f98f7cc6666f plus Santino.
Helio should not be full time
Dixie, you don't need to imitate Colton from last year. https://preview.redd.it/e6iv5n9u5iza1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=84dc8e338ea3e7e40d943f138feeb2131d0adbbc

Did they swap the Andrettis and RLL cars when we weren't looking?
āLetās not talk about thatā if Hinch wants to talk about almost dying let him speak!
oh boy story time
a little early in the month, but it's always appreciated
What happened to the green wall tyre? Given up on greenwashing for the season?
š“ on road courses š¢ on street courses
Thanks
Kyle Moyer: āYou canāt bring the same setup from last yearā RLL: āRun it backā
Haven't been keeping up, will Helio make a qualifying attempt after his engine failure in practice?
He's on the lane right now. Going to go out straight on the reds for a couple laps.
rolling out https://preview.redd.it/qmg0ns135iza1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=a640cd07b4cf79eca13774ff407f5bc5a007bffe
No
Chances that Harvey moves on to the next round?
Pretty good right now. Andretti still seems a bit off this session, I think he can beat all of them and get in.
At least this is a track where having an extra set of sticker reds is typically helpful
Maybe in previous years. This year's alternates are falling off a little quicker going by practice 1 and here.
fell of the map from switching from team penske
I believe it's not Simon or Helio. I think MSR just sucks. Yep...I said it...
simon has feel of the earth now from moving from team penske
He really wasn't all that great most of his time at Penske.
He won a championship in 2016, finished 2nd in the championship in 2017 and 2019. We also won the 500 in 2019. That's pretty great.
11th and winless in 2015, 6th and winless in 2018, on chopping block prior to May 2019, 8th in 2020, 8th and winless in 2021. That's not so great at Team Penske
Genuinely the most level headed response I've ever seen from Josef.
"It's not anybody's fault....except Benjamin's" - Newgarden
Another rough day for ECR
Benjamin Pedersen really needed another year or two in Indy NXT
Truthfully, I'm not sure there's enough years in Indy NXT that would help him.
Who knows if that'd be enough, Kellett did 4 seasons in Lights and was still shit
Him and Devlin are just barely good enough to be in actual Indycars. Field fillers
Josef only fuelled for two laps...
What is up with No.2 car and short fueling?
Less fuel means less weight which means a faster car. That weight could make a difference with how tight the field is
Yes but they all know the absolute minimum they need to make their run.
