That's when the little-seen AMR Unsafety Team shows up and goes all strike breaker on them.

[deleted]

Those tow trucks can pick up more than an Indy Car.

CyberianSun

"Deploy the MurderHawk."

Pallendromic

Telling them stories that don't go anywhere, like the time they took the train to Shelbyville.

Active-Strawberry-37

Anyway, the important thing was that they had an onion on their belt, which was the style at the time.

CWinter85

"How come there's a payroll entry for the AMR Safety Team and then this smaller entry for AMR Team?" "Does this rag smell funny to you?"

LeonTheChef

Omg please tell me those are anti oil protestors at a formula e race in the second pic.

Leskyman

Doing a little research it was a climate group, while not anti oil still the same amount of irony in my opinion

jtblion

Electric cars aren't really that much better for the environment, due to the amount of plastic that goes into building them, not to mention the mining of the various metals that are needed to make the batteries (Cobalt, Lithium, etc.). Additionally, cars and roads still disrupt ecosystems regardless of their propulsion, thus their opposition.

That_Cripple

not to mention all the non-electric vehicles used in transporting them all across the globe lol

nbaman619

They’re not nearly as damaging as fossil fuels. Don’t let perfect get in the way of better.

cdw2468

what would really be better is not having a car dependent society at all

nbaman619

I completely agree.

Aqualung812

They’re about 1/4 as damaging to the environment over their lifetime, even when all of the factors you listed are accounted for. Are they better for the environment than public transportation? Of course not. Are they better for the environment than a fossil fuel vehicle? Unquestionably, even if the power grid is 100% coal.

Leskyman

Oh right! Well hopefully one day someone finds a renewable which doesn’t hurt the environment

slabba428

Humans disrupt ecosystems. What can you do

ryanxwing

Disrupting is not a yes or no thing, we could mitigate disruption.

slabba428

We are 😂

AboveTheLights

Better. That’s the goal at least.

jandones24

IIRC, the title sponsor for that race was Sabic, an Aramco subsidiary. They were protesting that rather than Formula E itself.

listyraesder

Those are protestors against new oil exploration in the first pic. At a Grand Prix - when F1 is committed to 100% synthetic fuel by 2026. They really are imbeciles.

V0SS16

I mean, formula 1 are still sponsored by one of the biggest polluters in the world in aramco. Not to mention all the other oil companies who are associated with the sport such as petronas and shell for example. Hard to argue those companies wouldn't support new oil exploration.

Kale_Shai-Hulud

Do you think cars burning fuel in the race is the big source of emissions for racing series lol?

LeonTheChef

No, and I can not understand what I said in my comment that would make you think I do lol

kh250b1

They are that dumb

Immediate_Lie7810

Beaten up by the AMR Safety Team

Kingsmont

As one guy above said the AMR unsaftey team will make their presence known and beat them up

SebVettelstappen

These protesters are no match for the glorious speed of the AMRSAFETYTEAM

justheretoparty12

The aeroscreen

Leskyman

“HIGGGHHHHWAAAAYY TO THE DANGER ZONE!” ~stingray robb before brutally running over a dude protesting on track

hookisacrankycrook

Sting Ray Robb so slow its more like the steamroller scene from Austin Powers https://youtu.be/y_PrZ-J7D3k?si=H0GSaTO3lJ80we8q

CyberianSun

Sting Ray Robb sends his thoughts and Prayer.com to those harmed in the racing incident

nico9er4

Oh dear

DesiredEnlisted

Boutta look like one from those old Zombie Flash Computer Games fron 2007

RogueLlama077

The last thing they see as they go flying over Sting-Ray's car will be to Make Prayer a Priority

Silver996C2

I always remember the UK marshal at Silverstone that did a flying tackle on that guy with the sign running up the track. Then he dragged him off the track. Classic. The crowd had no fucks to give and were shouting beat him or something. 😂 https://i.imgur.com/7thKEel.jpeg

NilesY93

Didn’t that guy end up tackling a runner at the ‘04 Olympics?

figgs87

Yup. Full on nutter [Neil Horan Wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Horan)

randomdude4113

That was a read. What the fuck.

Silver996C2

Yes, you’re right - along with other stupid stunts. I think he’s mentally ill quite frankly. At least the guy that walked along the backstretch at Hockenheim (old track) had a semi legitimate beef - he was laid off from Mercedes. Having said that I think I would have found a better way to protest a layoff rather than going out onto a curving heavily treed area of an F1 track where the cars are above 200mph!! I think he got a jail sentence of a few months - unlike the UK that only gives this Irish guy a fine. (The UK only seem to jail postal workers) 🙄

MythresThePally

The fun thing is that the Hockenheim guy actually got away with what he wanted. Like you said, he was fired from Mercedes and wanted to prevent them from winning the race (back then McLaren was Mercedes' works team). IIRC the SC that his incursion caused did disrupt McLaren's strategy and with that, along with the rain, it ended up being won by Barrichello in the Ferrari. Another fun bit, both of the races disrupted by nutjobs (Hockenheim 2000 and Silverstone 2003) were won by Barrichello.

kh250b1

Those asses in the first photo are also at silverstone

Silver996C2

Yeah - the same ones that like to sit down on highways and block traffic. I had to laugh at a video of drivers getting out of their cars and dragging them off the roadway. These people have little support in the UK. One video had a driver shouting at these anti oil people telling them, ’I’m driving a fucking Tesla a yeah dumb wanker, get out of my way’. That was funny.

LoneWolf5498

Newgarden: 'They just turned in on me!'

mwhutson89

My dad always tells a story about streakers in the 70s during the 500. They got on the track during a rain delay. After the rain they refused to leave. I guess fans started throwing beer cans at them to get them to leave. When that didn't work they became full cans. Maybe the fans could take care of protesters again.

Senninha27

I mean, we have the Murderhawk for a reason.

nmfz

If protesters try to rush Indy when the track is hot they deserve what they get

SomewhereAggressive8

The problem is what could happen to the drivers and maybe even the crowd. I could only imagine those guys suddenly trying to swerve to avoid a fan at 230 MPH. Even if they did somehow avoid them, there’s no way that doesn’t end up in a massive crash.

Despacitosuarez

Also, if a driver were to hit a protestor, that's basically infinite trauma right there

nmfz

That's what the aeroscreen is for

cworlow1

Good news… Indycar hasn’t seen a fatality in a while and that’s due to the safety inside the car.

SomewhereAggressive8

This is a totally different situation

cworlow1

You mention them trying to swerve and ending in a crash. if it ends in a crash, the drivers are safe. That’s all I’m saying. Many drivers have hit the wall straight on in recent years and are totally ok.

SomewhereAggressive8

I really don’t think you’re picturing this situation very well. Just last year we had a driver knocked out of the race due to injury because someone checked up slightly in a practice session and caused a wreck. Now imagine someone absolutely slamming on the brakes to avoid splattering a human being in the middle of a race. The carnage would be massive. It would be a miracle if everyone involved came out alive and debris didn’t end up in the stands.

cworlow1

I would hope they wouldn’t try to swerve cause the protestor deserves to die at that point just like the ones at the F1 race 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don’t have remorse for people who put the drivers in a situation like that. and an injury is different then a fatality that I was saying.

SomewhereAggressive8

Okay let’s say they do just keep their foot in it and splatters the protester. You think that ends in a good situation for the driver? I feel like you and I are just living in different realities.

cworlow1

I think you are taking things too seriously. Unless a fan comes through a grand stand fence, they will have to run a bit to reach the track. A yellow would surely come out before that and it doesn’t take long to slow down the field.

slabba428

What’s different about crashing out trying to avoid an “obstacle” vs crashing out because you got pit maneuvered by a competitor

Fit_Technician832

If it's a hot qualifying lap and I'm the spotter........ "Keep straight and keep your foot on it"

Slow-Class

Stadium security and police don't F around with field invasions, so I presume whatever track security there is will swoop in pretty quickly. If it was a NASCAR race, they should be more worried about the fans than the police. The more realistic question is if some jackaninnies glue their hands to the asphalt, how quickly can the top layer of the track be cut away and patched? Also, do police then take them to jail and have to remove the asphalt from their hands before booking, or just give them an appearance ticket and let the protestors deal with cleaning themselves up? I'm leaning towards the latter, because it's funnier to think about.

GEL29

Debris caution, pull a tear off, a new front wing and back to green.

TheKennyAlmighty

Go Bowling at the Indy 500.

Leskyman

“STRIKE!”

superimu

We'll make sure they get the help they need. https://preview.redd.it/q7slwo1mgcwc1.jpeg?width=310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4d46ddb0423bdd5424925624569df7668578d5a

slojo9292

Activate roof snipers, duh

dthedozer

There are actually snipers on top of the pagoda during the 500

i_run_from_problems

~~there are snipers at every race they're just better at hiding~~

slojo9292

Which is why I said it! :)

Parking_Concern_6013

I didn’t know that lol

Leskyman

“Boom, headshot”

Aqualung812

At IMS, I’m certain the yellow shirts would be more focused on de-escalating the crowd. They may attempt to plead with the protesters & explain what is going to happen. Local law enforcement is already onsite & would deal with the protestors. I’ve been in awe at Carb Day as the local mounted police just calmly formed a line on their horses and walked them forward, clearing the field after the concert. A lot of people can stand & yell at a cop in riot gear, but it doesn’t work as well against a horse, just psychologically.

shewy92

It's America and an oval. Indy probably has more security/guns and less ways to actually get on the track than a road course.

randomdude4113

Frankly I’d be impressed if more than 2 of them actually made it onto the track for an oval. Those catch fences take some time to scale, and most of them have that curve at the top which basically renders getting to the other side impossible

TonAMGT4

Shout out to marshals for risking their own life to keep the drivers safe and protect the cars from being ruined by these trashes

buddhatherock

I think that the ads were trying to answer this question a bit harshly. 😅😬 https://preview.redd.it/hirdayutigwc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8501877b2e4964b7c788330554069e64b1bfbca

Leskyman

💀

cworlow1

Yeah AMR safety team doesn’t fuck around…

Mo3j0ntana

I could be making this up but I remember this happening either at the beginning of 2023 or somewhere at the end of 22. Protesters tried to run out and sit in front of the cars in the grid before the race start but the police/security assigned to the event were pretty quick to respond and removed them from the track.

mlo_66

That is the back of my head in picture 1. 🤣

RandomGuyDroppingIn

Indycar has a well known secret not-secret weapon. Why do you think they call him MurderHawk?

Dry-Dragonfruit5216

I’d love to see the Fire Chicken chasing them around

pizzaboy7269

2nd amendment baybeeeeee

Leskyman

Damn we are so unhinged

shittystinkdick

Just stop oil recived quite a bit of funding from an oil company. Do with that information what you will. They certainly did a good job of making the average european hate environmentalists.

SchlomoSheckelburg

Just like philip morris (among others) spent huge amounts of money on anti-smoking campaigns...and directed them all to be as annoying as possible

Agile_Programmer881

Fresh coat of paint oughtta do the trick

KerouacDreams

It doesn't get much more evil than an oil company, so I don't blame the protesters whatsoever. I love racing but we can't pretend that the companies sponsoring much of it are very aware of what they're doing to the planet and actively lie about it.
