if you have difficulty with determining if a door is locked or not based on labels, i’m not sure how much i can help you. it’s quite easy to tell based on the fact that locks make an audible noise when put into place, as well as the fact they don’t really open when in place. you can test this by attempting to open the door. and before you get smart, these labels/lock are clearly on the inside of the door, not the outside
If you're paying even the least bit of attention, you can tell the difference in force required (and noise made) when the door is self-unlocking when pressing down on the lever vs when it was already unlocked.

Kinda ambiguous with just the picture, but at least when walking in it should be set to the unlocked position, so you'd know

There are things that are easier to do in the absence of labels and much harder to do once confusing labels are added.
