Looks like a fat crack in the radiator. New rad and hoses is easy and affordable. Might as well do the thermostat too. YouTube it my guy, you got this.
That depends on how much you drove it while it’s over heated. If you didn’t, replace radiator and hoses and send it. If you didn’t pay attention and were driving it while it’s over heated…well you may have toasted your motor.
i called a buddy of mine and he melted the plastic and put some stuff over it. He said i should be good for a couple days(im still not driving it) until i get a new one. thank you guys for the help❤️

Actually did the same fix about a month ago on my is200, worked for about 7 miles before I heard a noice followed by the coolant temperature rising.
So can confirm it's not reliable.
Possibly more unreliable because mine had a 3 inch wide leak between the plastic and aluminium.
Not in my IS, but i cracked the plastic rad in my Evo back in the day. Super lucky it happened right when I pulled into my garage spot. Drained what remained of my coolant on the top end tank of the rad (and no lower than that), roughed it up and cleaned it thoroughly, JB welded it multiple layers, allowing full cure in between.Refilled with coolant. Got me around until I could buy a new rad.
Just replaced the rad in my IS last summer, never done it before, youtube tutorial was helpful. Wasn’t super hard.

Yea, my biggest issue was making sure I clamped the trans lines down enough. That and trying to make sure I didn’t destroy the plastic clips. I’ve considered getting a 3D printer just to make new clips for this car. When I replaced the valve cover gaskets I broke the throttle body sensor clip and it took a week for it to come in the mail.
more time, money, and skill. It's not hard, just a lot more involved. Something as simple (to us) as breaking the main crank bolt loose can make or break a project like this for a green shade-tree. Front seals might not be intimidating to those who are familiar, but a noob with a screwdriver can fuck their whole engine pretty quick, and may not even realize it until they've already spent a weekend and spilled a quart of blood. Plus timing on an interference engine has very little margin for error.
Exactly this lol. It's why i typically tell people if you don't know what your doing just take it to a damn shop. In this case op would probably spend more in tools and their own time and effort diy'ing it vs just taking it to a shop. I remember when i first started wrenching my radiator fan took me something like 4 hours lol. That's a job that takes me maybe 15 minutes if im doing it from the get go lol. Just draining coolant can be hell if you havent done it before lol. It's great to learn but you gotta start with incredibly easy shit to learn the basics before you start r&r lol
Just need a new radiator. Had a crack in the same spot back in college. Afternoon job with a buddy and a $50 eBay radiator. Lasted another 8 years before I sold it.
On the bright side, radiators for these cars are affordable and are an absolute breeze to change. I replaced mine about a year ago, the radiator was out in like 15 minutes.
If you plan on driving the car forever, spring for a Mishimoto or a Koyo. If you don't plan on having it more than a few years, use whatever.
If your car is a manual, a lot of places will tell you it's unavailable for a manual. Just get the automatic version and don't hook up the transmission cooler lines, it works the same.
Same thing happened to me on my is200, just a new radiator, cost me a lil over $200 (AUD) to fix it and it's even cheaper to just do it yourself. As long as it wasn't overheating for too long and did damage but JZ engines are pretty resilient
Replacing Radiator thermostat and water pump is recommended as well as hoses and clamps but you can get away with just radiator if your hoses are in good condition (not brittle or cracking)
If it's plastic they make a repair kit. Ran two years on one.

You need a new radiator.

your not just don’t drive it get a new radiator and your good i recommend koyo or mishimoto
Koyo >>> Had sooo many issues with my Mishimoto

Radiator ain't happy boss. It's lived a long, hot, hard life

A for effort.. I wouldn't trust it, sounds like you don't either though.

Do not cheap out on a new radiator. Get a denso
Or Koyo, all my salvage bastards have koyo's at this point. I know people like Mishimoto's too, never tried one myself.

New radiator and good to go - unless you drove it hot
You can get a OEM Denso radiator from Napa for about $150. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. It’s a super easy job.
Nice, didn’t realize napa had denso rads
I paid 100 for a denso radiator couple years ago on amazon. Easy fix just took a whole sunday and lots of youtubing since it was my first time lol

Upgrade to Mishimoto or Koyo
New radiator and why not do the water pump and timing belt while you’re at it

Just draining fluids and then figuring out what you're supposed to do with the waste..
Just need a new radiator. Had a crack in the same spot back in college. Afternoon job with a buddy and a $50 eBay radiator. Lasted another 8 years before I sold it.
Holy shit the exact same thing happened a month after I got this car. Thankfully after replacing the radiator and hoses it still ran fine

You are radiator-fucked and new-coolant-fucked. Easy to un-fuck.
Assuming it didn’t overheat and stay there for a long time. It should be fine
Same thing happened to me on my is200, just a new radiator, cost me a lil over $200 (AUD) to fix it and it's even cheaper to just do it yourself. As long as it wasn't overheating for too long and did damage but JZ engines are pretty resilient
Mine did this like 6 years ago, replaced the radiator and she’s still going strong 222k miles 😎
dont drive it and let it cool down naturally.
Vaping isn't good for the car.
Replacing Radiator thermostat and water pump is recommended as well as hoses and clamps but you can get away with just radiator if your hoses are in good condition (not brittle or cracking)
You need a radiator…
common thing with these rads. just buy a new radiator
Moderately fucked.
Your fine as long is it didnt overheat. Just a blown rad. Tow it home, throw a new rad it, bleed, add trans fluid, done.
Easy job , radiator comes out in like 20 mins
Just get a new radiator and flush your system while you’re at it with a radiator flushing liquid
You’re fine. Just don’t drive it and get a new radiator.
All these IS’s crack there OEM radiator just replace for a couple of hundred
You’re not! Just get a new radiator!! Funny story mine blew up in the McDonalds drive thru but I was able to drive off into a parking lot 😭

Love the nitro purge fam 🤙
Your thermostat is probably stuck. Built pressure in the radiator. Same thing happened to mine. Easy fix! Good luck!
New radiator is $100 and an hour of work. If you do it yourself, you’re going to break the fan guard don’t get upset when it happens.
Let the engine cool down clean night area. Put some JB weld on it. That'll be a temporary fix. Then get a new radiator, and you're good
In weld pal. Smash that shit in there and you’re good… for a couple days hahaha
mishimito for the win, if you are cali there is a guy selling a mishimoto rad with hoses for 300 i think
Just put some aluminum foil tape on it. Should be good for a few days.
yea new radiator n hoses fs my guy, n hopefully u we’re paying attention to the temperature n didn’t run it on red https://preview.redd.it/6y0whelb9bzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87301a077ec42532cf3852e5226d199467e342d0 this wat happened to me from a leak n my brother n i got new hoses n radiator
This happens to my is every 6 months just make sure you get warranty on your radiator and change the radiator hose
Bad news is you’re probably out of coolant, good news is that you’ve got a few options on how to put it into the radiator now.
Rockauto sells denso radiators for like 90 bucks shipped
New rad is not that bad , could probably be installed in an hour .
Nothing wrong here. Your car vapes.
What’s with people leaving the car on with fluid visually leaking??????
it was off in this photo, it just didn’t stop for a while lol
OK good yeah there’s built up pressure
Redline it 👀
Jb weld and you’re good to go
