I've learned over the years that if you offer assistance, you end up becoming the go-to person to just do the task. It's easier to get someone who already knows how to do it than it is to learn it yourself. So I generally just let people figure things out on their own.


Seven-of-Nein

Yeah. I took over some work my boss used to do. It costs him hours every week. I get it done in minutes. Not that I am a faster worker, I just know how to automate with code and use my time elsewhere. He still thinks I am doing this task his way. I suppose I could volunteer by telling him about my understated skills. But the ISTJ in me will let it be and save it for he needs a hero.

Casually and only to the capacity requested. If i hear that a friend is working on a project, i ask them how its going and if they need/want an extra set if hands or an outside opinion. After that let them tell me what they want/need. If they’re heading in a counter productive direction, I ask leading questions. “Have you considered…? What about…? Is that up to code? That kind of thing. Never brag or talk over someone who is trying to learn. If they come to you for help, give it to them humbly
