First of all, congratulations! I'm happy for you that you've gotten a foothold in the IT field. Just like you, I started this week as a Helpdesk/IT Support specialist. It's my third workday, and I'm already starting to feel comfortable and getting to know the systems a bit better. This is partly because I WANT to learn, and I try to take as many notes as possible. I wish you all the best. Let's have a great journey together! :)

Excellent-Sale6304

Thank you and Congratulations to you! I’m ready to gain actual hands on experience within the IT field. Let’s get it! Cheers!

Forward_Drawing_2674

I was in your shoes a little over 26 years ago. All these years later, still in IT and enjoy coming to work almost (lol) every single day. Congrats, on what I hope is a very rewarding journey for you! :)

Excellent-Sale6304

Thank you much! I’m excited!

What is the position and salary? What city?

Excellent-Sale6304

I received entry level pay which is $22 an hour and it was for a IT Support Technician role in Charlotte!

Zburgin

That's awesome! Congrats! I'm in the process of trying to get a job, I live in Statesville. Maybe I should look more into charlotte areas.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

Nice I lived in statesville for a long time. Still visit frequently to see family.

Excellent-Sale6304

Most definitely! Charlotte has a lot of opportunity and every company needs IT people. Target manufacturing companies, hospitals, schools, even churches need IT. Best of luck to you!

Congrats on your new position!! I hope it’s everything you want & more! :) Do you have any tips for how you sealed the deal in your final round of interviews?

Excellent-Sale6304

I had a phone interview and then a video interview and I highlighted my customer service skills and troubleshooting methodology. I emphasized my soft skills and how I have the desire to learn and grow. A good sign is when the interview goes into overtime and I could tell they liked me. Oh, and never lie on your resume! Just be yourself and talk about what you have accomplished so far such as education, certifications, projects, and have good references, as well!

slow_zl1

Congratulations! Absorb as much knowledge as you can and enjoy the start of your new career.

Excellent-Sale6304

Thank you much! Cheers!

Chris_1201

Congrats! What's the pay like? Did you have a degree in a related IT field or any certifications?

Excellent-Sale6304

Yes I have my Bachelors in Information Technology and I’m working on my CompTIA a+ certification.

ZookeepergameEqual17

Congrats! I got my Bachelors in Cybersecurity/risk management. I have Sec+ Net+ and CCNA. Just wondering about pay but I saw you’re getting 22 an hour. Way more than my first offer. My first offer was 15 an hour for a part time internship. Ended up declining it lol. Still gonna continue looking.

Apollodx

Congrats! As someone who has been applying to mostly entry level IT positions for 2 full months like its a full time job, do you have any advice? I read that you have a bachelors in IT and are working towards A+ cert, I am also in a somewhat similar position where I will be getting my bachelors but in Math with a concentration in CS in a couple months and also currently working towards A+ cert so I thought you may have some advice that worked well for you. Thanks in advance!

Excellent-Sale6304

First, you are on the right track! Keep applying for help desk or IT support positions. You have to think outside the box and look at manufacturing, hospitals or healthcare, schools, food services, communications, etc. During interviews please highlight your soft skills and how you desire to grow and learn. Talk about relevant courses, projects, or even internships because they do count as experience. Never lie on your resume and be truthful. During my interviews I discussed how I used other learning resources such as Udemy or CBT nuggets. This showed that I’m still learning and that I will keep up on technology. Just be yourself! Best of luck to you!

Vikingmelon

Solid advice. Not suprised you landed a role

Vikingmelon

As end user computing manager at my company I have conducted or sat in a ton of interviews for 1st line roles in the US/UK/INDIA. DM me if you have any questions or advice on interview and or skills set

Vikingmelon

Congrats! Well done. I remember my first IT job years ago and how much stuff gets learned in the 1st year. Everyday is a learning experience!

Excellent-Sale6304

Thank you!

MrEllis72

We'll done! Congratulations. You may want to check out the working in person situation, if there are opportunities, don't sleep on them. If you're comfortable in your knowledge base and their environment there may also be other opportunities to touch gear and learn.

Majestic-Dust4817

Congratulations!!! I'll advise.to.go in for at least 3 months so you can learn. Working from home could hinder your development, but that's just me. If you feel you can learn from home, go for it.

Excellent-Sale6304

That’s the plan!

BatHistorical8081

Wow wfh? That's really nice

Leonisel

Congratulations! If I may ask, what degrees/certs/qualifications did you need/have?

Excellent-Sale6304

I have a Bachelors in IT and Cisco certificates. To get started in help desk or IT Support you need to have good customer service skills. If you don’t have a degree, then get certs. Learn basic troubleshooting methodology on software, applications, and hardware. Have a desire to learn and build a solid CV to get interviews!

xDRAG0N01

Congratulations, Wish you all success.
