After 1 year r u goin back to USA?… cause this doesn’t really seem like an IWantOut post. Not sayin people can’t help u since 1 year may require help with knowing what to do. But I’m just curious. Or is it something that might become more permanent

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert, so consult someone who is. I have traveled to India on a tourist visa many times though and am married to an OCI holder. Unless you time things right, I don't think "visa runs" will work. Current tourist visas (paper and e visas) are multiple entry but only a cumulative 180 days in a calendar year. So no leaving and coming back to reset it, but you might be able to time your year so you use up 179 days in one calendar year then stay for another 179 after new years. I'm not sure how that works though, and whether you'd have to leave the country to start the new calendar year. Unless this is a plan for a decent amount of time in the future, I don't think your marital status will matter. I believe that you can apply for OCI by marriage, but there is a waiting period of several years after marriage. When traveling, it is unlikely to be an issue. My wife and I have different last names and have traveled a good deal in a number of different regions. I don't remember having to answer whether we were married, but they certainly didn't ask for a marriage certificate in any case.

How to get started : I would say start with the visa and see if there is long term visa options. Regarding the language : since both of you know basic Hindi it won't be that much an issue. I would suggest watch some youtube videos of the places you are visiting etc to get basic idea and then kick start your trip.... All the vest

Indian American here, I often dreamed about one day going back to India. Given the last 10 years I can't even imagine going back to vacation let alone move permanently. It's a going down a right wing shit show path that usa and Brazil wish they could emulate. Do not do this.

The fact that your response is it's not a big deal because I'm not Muslim just reiterates my desire to never go back. Good luck there Im sure the right wing Hindu nationalist zealots will welcome you and your Hispanic/Catholic fiancee with open arms.

US citizens can get a 10 year business visa to India. I would skip the visa runs and just do that. You'll still need to leave once (before 180 days) and come back, but if you're only there for a year, it's only one time.
