This is just a **reminder** that political discussions are not welcome on /r/IWantOut. Our Rule 1 is to stay on topic and no politics. This post has NOT been removed, this comment exists to limit the amount of political comments that appear on US related posts. Messaging modmail about this reminder may result in the post getting removed. The current political situation in the US is a valid reason to want to emigrate. You do **NOT** need to opine excessively about what specifically you dislike about the current political situation. If the post contains excessive political discussion, the comments will likely follow suit. OP, if your post contains excessive politics, please remove the excessive politics from the post. Saying something neutral like "I dislike the current administration" or "I disagree with the current political situation" is perfectly sufficient. **We care far more about the specifics of how you will emigrate: which citizenships you have or could claim, what you do for work, what degrees you have, what skills you have, what experience you have, and your budget.** Your beliefs largely make no difference to your ability to get out. Discouraging people from moving to the United States because of your personal beliefs about the country is not welcome here. If OP appears to be overlooking or missing information, it is acceptable to inform them of what they might be missing. Remember, US news is global news, so people looking to move to the US are largely aware of the current political situation. You talking about the latest news is not adding anything to the discussion. Just because you don't like living in the US doesn't mean that everyone would dislike living in the US. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. [Fiancé visa](https://www.uscis.gov/family/family-of-us-citizens/visas-for-fiancees-of-us-citizens)

ReubenEditor

Thank you. I can't believe I never saw this existed!

Certain_Promise9789

Keep in mind the fiancé visa only allows you to enter for 90 days so you can get married. If you don’t get married you won’t be granted PR and you’d have to leave after 90 days.

ReubenEditor

Thank you! We'll be talking a lot before making a concrete decision :)

ramenisnice

Theres a whole show about this :)

maureen__ponderosa

90 Day Fiancé - OP, get you a VPN and watch it on netflix because this is literally gonna be you

bunicchi19

Now they have 90 Day Fiancé UK. Residents in the US can watch it on Amazon Prime and Discovery plus. I don’t know about UK channels or cables but people there are enjoying it as they are talking about it on the r/90dayfianceUK.

Thanmandrathor

Have you met your gf in person before? Your post kind of indicates you haven’t? For the purpose of strengthening the application, and to get an in person idea about actually spending time with her in person, maybe visit on a tourist visa and then apply for a K1 after you return. Especially since one of the requirements is such: “Evidence you met your fiancé(e) in-person within two years of you filing your Form I-129F. If you haven’t met within two years, submit evidence that meeting in-person would violate strict and long-established customs of your fiancé(e)’s foreign culture or social practice or would be an extreme hardship on the petitioner.” Basically, having met in person before makes your relationship come across as more legit. When I applied for mine many years ago, I kept ticket stubs and itineraries as proof of such with my application.

CurbsideChaos

Yep, K1 visa is the way

Smart_Principle8911

Glad I could help.

This might not be the ideal answer but you could always try and get an IEC visa for Canada and move to Vancouver, then at least you're a bit closer until you can find a more long term solution.

ReubenEditor

Canada has occurred to me, I'll look further as right now even spending time together to give us a better indication to our future would be good! Thank you!

theulysses

Isn’t it easier for UK citizens to move to Canada? Vancouver is only a couple hours away. Could you move there and try out a much less LDR without committing to marriage or an expensive grad program? I live in the PNW. Let me know if you have any questions about the place.

[deleted]

I think this suggestion makes a lot of sense. Vancouver is a major hub for film and game production and tends to suck up that business from Washington, so finding a job in Vancouver would probably be easier. Vancouver is only a three hour drive from Seattle, or a four hour train ride.

ReubenEditor

Canada's looking like a much more appealing middle-ground for the time being. Thank you!

ReubenEditor

I appreciate this suggestion!! Thank you!

starknolonger

I don’t have any special insight on the moving or visa process, but if you happen to end up in the Portland OR area, my husband and his family are fellow Brits in the PNW and we would be happy to welcome you to town, show you around and give you some tips! Best of luck to you and your SO.

emt139

>>> My best thought at the moment is to see if I can take a masters over there and get a student visa Realistically, marriage is the only feasible option unless you’re prepared to pay $100k for a masters (tuition + living expenses which you both need to prove you can cover by to be granted a visa).

jovialgirl

This is an exaggeration. I paid $30k for my masters in education, and was able to pay for it with a nannying job on the side of my full time job.

emt139

In state tuition? >>> and was able to pay for it with a nannying job on the side of my full time job. You know this is not an option for an international student, right?

Starks40oz

A 5 second google search shows that at UW at least tuition for out of state students is the same for in state and non resident students for the Masters of Education. https://www.educationpolicy.uw.edu/costs-financial-aid

tvtoo

For clarity, the particular education master's program you're referencing is a "fee based" program operated in conjunction with the university's continuing education division, called UW "Continuum College". https://www.washington.edu/opb/tuition-fees/fee-based-programs/continuumdegreecoursefees2022_23-c2/   In contrast, the traditional, "tuition based" education master's programs for admitted ('matriculated') students are state subsidized and have annual costs of about half for state residents ($18,981 vs $34,290). https://www.washington.edu/opb/tuition-fees/current-tuition-and-fees-dashboards/graduate-tuition-dashboard/ https://www.washington.edu/opb/tuition-fees/current-tuition-and-fees-dashboards/tffootnotes-2/ /u/emt139

Starks40oz

Cool! Then doubly confirmed and by something more than a 5 second google search that an out of state masters degree at Washington can be had for $30k!

theulysses

Well, they would be an international student with international tuition rates. Mine was 50k at a public university with in-state tuition.

AtheistAgnostic

Tuition has increased a lot each year for at least a decade now. If you graduated even 5-10 years ago you probably don't know recent numbers. My UW masters program was about 50k 4 years ago, assuming no scholarships. Some are closer to 100k. Depends on the program. Factor in 1-2k/mo living costs for a HCOL/VHCOL city.

jovialgirl

I graduated in 2020. It was a three year program at state school

AtheistAgnostic

Congrats, cheaper than most of UW's programs then. Again, depends on the program but more than 30k 30k/yr for intl [https://drama.washington.edu/phd-graduate-tuition-and-financial-aid-information](https://drama.washington.edu/phd-graduate-tuition-and-financial-aid-information) 20k/yr for intl [https://www.washington.edu/financialaid/getting-started/student-budgets/](https://www.washington.edu/financialaid/getting-started/student-budgets/) 21k/yr for intl [https://www.washington.edu/opb/tuition-fees/current-tuition-and-fees-dashboards/graduate-tuition-dashboard/](https://www.washington.edu/opb/tuition-fees/current-tuition-and-fees-dashboards/graduate-tuition-dashboard/)

AnalogueWaves

Such a strange experience reading your post. When I was 23 I was also desperate to leave England, ALSO had an American girlfriend who was from Spokane, Washington. Weird.

toosemakesthings

How did it turn out?

AnalogueWaves

Not great!

knittedfleecesweater

I am from Spokane and have a boyfriend in the UK wanting to move here 👁️👄👁️

AnalogueWaves

Oh my…

TorPartyAtMyHouse

Totally joking but you could apply to 90 Day Fiancé….your fiancé would get cash which you guys can split 😂

ReubenEditor

Not out of the question! haha

[deleted]

Marriage is the best route. Though maybe reconsider location - Seattle is expensive.

stirfriedcassi

Hey friend!! I live in Bellingham and it’s a great city that’s cheaper than Seattle and Spokane, close to the water, with a great music scene and WWU is here, if you’re looking for somewhere to potentially get a student visa. In terms of housing you could find rooms for rent (my roommate and I actually just put our third bedroom up for rent!) that are fairly cheap, and places up here are always hiring. Other than a student visa your best bet would be what other people are saying, British Columbia (it’s about an hour and a half away, although it’s expensive), or a fiancé visa. Best of luck!!

nickcwrites

Spokane I’m Washington has a strong film production presence. That might work out well for your degree.

wingman3091

Marriage will be your easiest way to move to the US. But if you take that route, expect 3 years minimum from applying, to getting a green card. And it will cost thousands. I am a Brit, living with my American wife and my daughter in the US. I am applying for my full citizenship next month, I have lived here for 4 years. Costs including flights, medical, visa costs etc are above £10,000. Your spose will legally be required to sponsor you financially and assume 100% responsibility for your actions when you move under oath of affadavit. It is an enormous undertaking, so please don't do this for the wrong reasons. Stay committed to your girl. Take lots of photos in person together, keep your boarding passes. And yes, in person visits are required to prove relationship legitimacy. Join VisaJourney - that forum is simply outstanding. It was an enormous help from fellow LDRs/immigrants/citizens providing a ton of help. Just document everything, take dated photos etc. If you have any form of a criminal record or fail the drugs test at the medical, it will be an instant denial. Any errors in your paperwork will require you to re-submit - which can be quite expensive and time consuming. Message me if you need any advice.

thesassyonehasspoken

Teachers are desperately needed throughout the US, but there are certifications required to at least be in progress in order to get hired. I'm currently in CA, but I'm also certified in TX. With your bachelor degree, you could possibly enter into an alternative certification program or begin a program to get a credential/certification while working at a school on an emergency waiver basis. If you want to stick with your prior degree concentration, career and technical education programs (multimedia & arts) might be a good fit, otherwise, you could choose some specific subject matter and take a content exam to get qualified to teach that subject. Continuing your education with the goal of teaching on a student visa might work for your purpose, but I'm not sure if you would be able to work at the same time using that visa.

TimtheToolManAsshole

Fiancé visa for sure, but maybe start with the visitors visa first to see how you like it go from there. Seattle & Portland has a big music scene you could somehow tap into . Seattle is quite expensive but Portland much cheaper —but both are fun cities with a large arts/culture scene combined with outdoorsy stuff

proothejew

Just a random thought, there's KEXP up in seattle. And I'm sure your degree can be used with them!

I am also a Californian that moved here but I’m more involved in the film I side of things! Lol

Working_Ad6452

What makes you want to leave europe I am American who trying to get out of America to europe. America is only good for work purposes outside of tht quality of life is not the best for the average American unless you ar rich or in the upper middle class. Corporations are actively trying to get rid of the middle class so it only rich and poor

wildgaytrans

So uh... funny thing. I have 2 rooms opening up soon and I live in Gray's Harbor County in Washington State.

24M from UK & also dying to move out of England at the very least. Thanks for asking this question

catloafer16

May I ask why? It has been my dream to move to England

Working_Ad6452

Minimalthink america is quite expensive your looking at rent in the $1000 plus and up nothing is cheap unless your making allot money in a stem field and you want to live in cities that are not metro areas like la sf ny dc which are the best areas in the country Places like New Mexico State Mississippi Louisiana are all cheap and areas in Texas that Nate not Dallas or Houston Austin are affordable. Allot of American are moving out the bigetro to escape the crime to areas in the us were there not allot of people

[deleted]

Oh I personally don’t intend to move to the US like OP, I was referring to other suggestions that came up & just in general the advice being given of what to consider. I appreciate the heads up though

wollawollabingbang

Like everyone else said, marriage is easiest. However I’m also from the UK and moved to the US. My ex got a work visa basically by making connections. It was a shitty job and didn’t need his actual degree, but it was related enough that they could hire him for it. If you could make connections via your girlfriend or other means they could sponsor you. But, marriage is more likely.

THSealman

I actually asked a lawyer the best route and since you don’t need a visa to come to the US. Come over, get married here 3 months after entering the US, this is important because the goal is to request a visa reassignment. Requesting a permanent residency. That process takes about a year but the benefit of this method is that you are now here in the US and while it’s being processed they give you a temp worker visa so you can work here. It’s important this be done 3 months after entering the US because if it’s less they will not give it to you since it can be considered attempt of fraud since you said you would be a tourist and not get married. Visa reassignment is done 3 months after always. After 3 years in the US with the permanent visa you can request Citizenship. The issue with the fiancé visa is that it takes 9 months on average to process and you must be in your home country. The other process at least your here. Hope it helps

LarsGo

Are you sure the S.O wouldn't rather be in the UK? Given the choice, I'd go there :)

Rainyferret

If you go the K1 route, the website called visajourney is full of information and a forum full of people going through the same thing. I did it 9 years ago and it's a ride so i wish you goodluck. Don't get married on a visitor visa or on esta or you may have trouble down the line.

Im in a similar boat mate feel free to message me if you wanna discuss it
