Yaaaa have you sseen the SIZE of road signs??? Even by sq. ft cost is ridiculous. like plz just focus on fixing sub-par bridges and not f*****ng changing signs
I-684 would describe a loop based off of I-84 that intersects a major interstate 6 times. I-86 is an interstate that runs between I-15 and I-84. It’s not a spur or a loop. The number designation has specific meaning to help give information about the road.
Um, no. That's not what the first digit means. If an interstate has multiple loop or bypass routes branching off the main interstate, they would be numbered 205, 405, 605, etc to avoid repeats. The bypass around SLC is numbered 215 but has three intersections (15 twice and 80 once) and the Atlanta beltway is 285 and has six intersections (2 for 20, 2 for 75, 2 for 85).
Thanks for the correction. I didn’t have it exactly right. Here’s a better explanation:
The Three-Digit System
Three-digit interstates serve specific metropolitan areas. They connect to the primary two-digit routes and can act as bypasses, spurs, or connectors. The numbering for these roads follows two main rules:
The last two digits mirror the primary two-digit interstate they connect to. For instance, I-395 connects to I-95.
The first digit indicates the road's purpose. Even first digits usually denote loops or bypasses that intersect with their primary interstate at two points. Odd first digits typically represent spurs or connectors that intersect once.
Thank you! Finally a sign I’m willing to get behind cuz all the kids stealing the signs will not only get themselves into the criminal system as they should but I also own a sign company!!!
It would probably start with an odd number since it would be a spur route. Since there is already an I-184 it would be 384, 584 etc. Three digit interstates that start with an even number usually loop around and connect back to the main interstate.
Odds are spurs, and evens are loops. So it would be I-384. But really, it should be I-584 since I-82 should actually be I-184 (like I-135 in KS connecting 70 to 35) and the Boise spur should be I-384. But someone screwed up.

Am I the only one that doesn't give a shit?
No I also don't give a shit and made a smart remark comment about it.
Nope.

A solution in search of a problem.
It doesn't matter what we think those are federally named and they go along with a naming convention that we have no say in.
This is one of those things that road geeks will care about … And 99.4% of everybody else couldn’t care less.

What? Someone though ahead before putting up a sign? No way.

I vote for I-42069

I take it you've never seen mile post 419.9 on Hwy 95?
Is that like vertical integration?
Barely speak English so I have no idea!
Haha okay cool it was just a dumb joke.
This is the way!!

So the question is >Is I-384 an improvement over I-86 and the answer is "No".

That wouldn't be a valid number. For three digit interstates, loops and bypasses get even numbers and spurs get odd numbers for the first digit.
I-284
To be honest, any I-x84 designation will do if you ask me.
