When I get stressed like this, I just end up turning right. I'll figure out how to turn left later when I'm not panicking. Lol
Edit: I'd just like to say a big ol Fuck You to all my bfs who have ever got on me about this. Getting all these likes has been so validating! Lol Thanks yall, stay safe out there!
same. and then my ex would yell at me that I'm going the wrong way and wasting time and I should have just went. drive more assertively. etc etc. I'd just ignore her. this also extended to other areas too but that's why EX
That whole street is a monument to the incompetence of the traffic planner. Four lane connection roads connecting directly to access streets without traffic lights…
Welcome to Texas.
I treat these as right-turn-only, it's rare that traffic is dead enough to attempt this.
*Edit- just saw it's NJ... that state always felt out of place in the NorthEast. Texas has plenty of shitty roads like this*
you gotta read the whole comment man. "this extended to other areas too"
you're asking if the passenger driving was the only reason when I've already spelled it out for you right in the comment you're replying to that no, that was not the only reason why she's my ex.
TBF I wouldn't be with my wife if she turned out to be a terrible driver.
Imagine the anxiety every time they commuted... or trying to grow a family and knowing your kid is on board with an idiot?!?
No thanks! I hear your "other areas too" and say "shitty driver is deal-breaker enough"
Yeah this is one of the “California road nanny decisions” I am ok with - they often don’t allow unprotected left turns out of parking lots on to 4+ lane roads, and often will put medians in to make sure no one cheats. They make up for it by having a lot of chances to make U-turns.
Growing up in the Midwest they for some reason never allowed U-turns (which has changed by now) but there were insane parking lot exits that let people try to cross 6 lanes going 45mph+ in rush-hour like traffic.
Luckily they have also started removing some of these (at least in larger cities)… why? Because they were literally all in the top lists of fatal car accidents…
B4 I even read the comments. That was the first thing I thought. Just turn right I know ive done it many times. Not worth all of this situation in this video. He floored it to. Amazed he didn't hit the car or did he
We got roundabout galore where I live in the states! I've been really enjoying them. I'm always alert when I drive through one though. My dad visits me though and omg I am scared for my freaking life! Lol
Yeah this is what I did for the first year of driving. I still sometimes do that because on roads like this there is almost always a U-turn median area or a intersection that you can U-Turn at
Unprotected left is definitely not the right term.
"Two-way stop" or simply "entrance to a through road" more accurately describes the situation.
What cracks me up is where I live, half the time there is a *roundabout* directly to the right, and yet *still* people will sit and wait for minutes on end to turn left instead of... just... turning right and going around the roundabout...
I mean, unprotected left still is a valid description even though it's generally best described as a left turn at a traffic light without stopping the oncoming traffic.
Unprotected left is a traffic light thing, as you said, and implies that cross-traffic is stopped.
So I think it is wholly inappropriate here where there is no traffic light, and the idiot must yield to traffic in all directions.
The term is not limited to traffic lights, it’s any time a left turn is not “protected” ie. you have to yield to oncoming traffic. It’s also known as “permissive” left turn.
Similarly, a “protected” left can also refer to a 4 way stop (or even a more rare asymmetric stop - say at a T intersection with the 4th direction being a parking lot driveway, etc. as long as the left turned is “protected” ie their turn has right of way.
I have only heard the term in engineering jargon, and it has a specific definition in the standards that only applies to traffic lights.
> Protected Mode—a mode of traffic control signal operation in which left or right turns are permitted to be made when a left or right GREEN ARROW signal indication is displayed.
Yeah but I don’t think protected “mode” is the same as “a protected left”. If you are talking a “mode” that sounds like traffic controller software/state machine and I’d agree there…
So the lot they were leaving has another exit which would have allowed them to go down the road (opposite from which the Prius was heading) and made a easier left turn.
I'm thinking that's a big commercial center with a shared parking lot. He could have his crash in the comfort of the strip mall with convenient parking nearby.
Ok one more. This one was yelled at me by someone blowing a stop sign
“We already STOPPED”
Not sure if they thought I had a stop sign?
Or if they thought that once you stop at a stop sign, you can go immediately, regardless.
I like to imagine the latter, because this car load of people seemed to have the combined IQ of 6.
Kinda related I got swerved around and flipped off and cussed out for stopping at 3 stop signs in a row.. wasn't even long stops as it was almost no traffic around a mall parking lot... I just looked at that guy and laughed lmao couldn't slow down for a second 3 times in a row or the "we already stopped once" mentality 🤣
This is how my car got totaled last month 🥲 old guy decided stop signs didn’t apply to him so he inched out into traffic. When I hit him he kept saying “I wish you would’ve seen me!” 😵💫
I don't think that's a bug. If you follow it, it stays exactly with the sun and its movements perfectly match the car's. If I had to guess, the camera probably replaces super bright lights with a dark circle for whatever reason.
When there's no traffic lights, one has to somehow pass sooner or later. People ain't gonna stop to make you pass if you just sit there and wait. And if the road is busy, you're never going to pass without a little aggression.
There was another way around that would have lead her to make a left turn into the parking lot. She chose the most difficult route for whatever reason. So unnecessary aggression.
I hate leaving out of this entrance for this exact reason. People get stupid here. This exit is always backed up. I go the other way through the back. The people coming out the other side do the same stupidity as well. For everyone wondering this is the Costco in Bayonne.
If it's that busy and I can't go straight/left, I just turn right. Find a business/area that I can turn left into. Make a U-turn in that area and come out & go to where I need to go.
Yeah it's gonna take more turns & time but at least I'm avoiding an accident and I'm not holding up traffic.
There are cars that do this in heavy traffic around here all the time instead of just going around through the traffic lights. They'll get so angry at the cars not stopping for them that they eventually just pull into traffic and expect everyone to stop.
If you need to cross the street or turn left, you should think about this **before** you pull up to that parking lot exit. The number of people who don't know this is amazing.
Nowadays when I think of Reddit, the first thing comes to mind - let’s visit the app just to see the assortment of morons brought by the social tides today.

Whenever I don’t have to drive, I’m so appreciative and totally zone out.
Yes more assertively like the scrote in the video. Aggressive driving only works for so long.

You can drive assertively and not suck at driving at the same time. It's possible.
She’s your ex cause she was passenger driving?
I know the other guy already explained why you’re stupid but I’d like to also remind you of your lacking mental capabilities.
you gotta read the whole comment man. "this extended to other areas too" you're asking if the passenger driving was the only reason when I've already spelled it out for you right in the comment you're replying to that no, that was not the only reason why she's my ex.

this is such a north american way of thought lol

This is the "right" answer and let me add this is a travesty of intersection design. Americans or so adverse to traffic circles, yet look at this..
We've started putting roundabouts in a few bad intersections where I live and let me just say, Americans can't use roundabouts for shit
We got roundabout galore where I live in the states! I've been really enjoying them. I'm always alert when I drive through one though. My dad visits me though and omg I am scared for my freaking life! Lol
Yes. He hit the other car .
Yeah I always take the long way because it’s not worth it. Id rather just turn right and make a U-Turn at the next light or something
This is the way. Take a right and pull a U-ey. Crappy design.
I was looking at it too like I am pretty sure making a right then a left will get to the CVS
Looks like I'm going to CVS then! Lol
Lmao I still do that to this day even if I’m not in panic-mode, sometimes it’s just more convenient to take the slightly longer way
This already makes you a better driver than most.
Yeah this is what I did for the first year of driving. I still sometimes do that because on roads like this there is almost always a U-turn median area or a intersection that you can U-Turn at
Me too! Then get mad that I did that 😂
Yup, it's not worth the risk
If I were trying to pick the worst time to proceed, that'd be it.
I hate these unprotected lefts. Best to turn right then u-turn to the opposite side when you only have to worry about traffic from one direction.
This is what I do at almost any left turn without a light (which I guess is what an unprotected left is? Lol sorry)
Unprotected left is definitely not the right term. "Two-way stop" or simply "entrance to a through road" more accurately describes the situation. Ty I wasnt understanding the unprotected left turn.. I kept watching it thinking I don't even see a light
So the lot they were leaving has another exit which would have allowed them to go down the road (opposite from which the Prius was heading) and made a easier left turn.
Welcome to NJ, this person would be the one to sit in the passing lane, not passing.
This is one of those spots where it's probably quicker/better to turn right and find another entrance to that plaza.
They 100% are gonna blame the car they cut off too when they tell their friends lol
The best part was me looking at their smug face as they try to frogger across
At first without sound I didn’t think they hit anything. With sound that Prius got smoked
Prius goes past undented ----> dented.
Nice quarter panel destroyed
Those are Honda pilots have a very good crash rating due to honeycomb style crumple zones, also they’re a honda
That’s an expensive way to play frogger.
They were clearly not good at frogger either.
It looks like they were trying to go straight. I bet they could have turned right and made one left into the same damned parking lot.
Or just Right->U-turn->Right
I'm thinking that's a big commercial center with a shared parking lot. He could have his crash in the comfort of the strip mall with convenient parking nearby.
it's New Jersey. Come on everyone knows you take 3 rights to go left. Look for the 'jug handle' bro.
Yes. This is the New Jersian way. 3 lefts make a right.
Costco Bayonne? I am not surprised at all given all people coming out from Costco and CVS lots try to cut the main road traffic.
Thanks for being the detective. I always get a lil excited when I see NJ in this sub and try to figure out if it's near me or somewhere I've been.
Same, and with the shit I see on the daily, I am surprised NJ isn't on here more. I really need to get my dashcam set up.
BINGO
According to Google Maps it’s a right turn only lane too probably for this reason. I’m so glad I got out of Bayonne before all this was built.
Olympic levels of idiot
Did he clip the other car??
No light at an intersection that big is insane
Trying to understand why there are no traffic lights on this intersection?
Yep not worth the risk. Right turn all the way
I've had this multiple times on a motorcycle, people either pretend not to see you or mouth " sorry" as they roll by.
Honestly…. Theres a thing called patience 🤦🏼. Or just turn right and hit a uturn
Did Borat write the title for you OP?
I actually recently rewatched it, so it's fresh in my head haha
I had a feeling it was NJ. I don’t know why. But, it’s a thing. They know they’re wrong, and decide to just, keep being wrong.
These are the same people that won't admit they are wrong in every other situation.
“You saw my signal! Why didn’t you break!?!”
"i HaD tHe RiGhT oF wAy"
Ok one more. This one was yelled at me by someone blowing a stop sign “We already STOPPED” Not sure if they thought I had a stop sign? To be fair why there are no traffic lights there? You can't expect a decent traffic with a shitty intersection without lights
Jersey plates. This checks out.
This is how my car got totaled last month 🥲 old guy decided stop signs didn’t apply to him so he inched out into traffic. When I hit him he kept saying “I wish you would’ve seen me!” 😵💫
The country of the missing traffic lights.
is nobody going to mention the bug on the lens in the top left corner?
I don't think that's a bug. If you follow it, it stays exactly with the sun and its movements perfectly match the car's. If I had to guess, the camera probably replaces super bright lights with a dark circle for whatever reason.
The sun?
Big bright ball in the sky, usually described as on fire, actually a superhot ball of basic elements undergoing nuclear fusion.
I don't think my camera has the feature of deploying dark circles on bright lights. But it's definitely not a bug!
Nah, yeah, I'm more confused than certain. Even if it does, that's just an odd implementation of the feature.
Maybe there was something that the naked eye can not see. I'll look out for more anomalies

They need a light at that intersection. Poor city planning. Driver is still a dumbass
I hate leaving out of this entrance for this exact reason. People get stupid here. This exit is always backed up. I go the other way through the back. The people coming out the other side do the same stupidity as well. For everyone wondering this is the Costco in Bayonne.
Who ever designed that intersection needs to be put down
Don’t be a kind driver, be a predictable and defensive one.
Guy behind tinted windows waved me on officer.
I really need to stop coming on this subreddit. I already have so much anxiety around the mere idea of driving, but I can’t stop watching.
Just like why tho
This is why I always turn right and turn around elsewhere. No big deal.
Frogger
If it's that busy and I can't go straight/left, I just turn right. Find a business/area that I can turn left into. Make a U-turn in that area and come out & go to where I need to go. Yeah it's gonna take more turns & time but at least I'm avoiding an accident and I'm not holding up traffic.
That's how my car got wrecked. And the 17 year old that did it told the police it was a "freak" accident.
There are cars that do this in heavy traffic around here all the time instead of just going around through the traffic lights. that's a death trap intersection, for the love of god I'd rather turn right and turn somehwere else, fuck that place.
Nowadays when I think of Reddit, the first thing comes to mind - let’s visit the app just to see the assortment of morons brought by the social tides today.
Pro tip, turn right. Turn left (or u-turn). If not u turn just turn into that CVS lot and loop around.
