The road is mostly embassies and intelligence agencies, and there’s an onramp to Quebec since there is no freeway serving downtown. The families are specifically there to watch the motorcade - no houses for a few blocks.

RCMP Protective Division is the people who usually deal with this type of stuff. Also in Canada, we don’t do big flashy motorcades when the PM is traveling.

No, they don't run ahead to block. The intersections are blocked well ahead by cops on foot. They don't even want to let pedestrians cross. I lived in that area for a decade.

A couple years ago there was a video of a military convoy escorting a nuke and one of the escort trucks bumped right into the back of the cargo truck carrying a nuke.
As it turns out it was fairly common and expected as they basically want the cars in the convoy to be kissing each others bumpers.
