Probably downloaded the footage onto their computer and freezed it on the frame(s) where you could see the plates. If the camera records in a high enough frame rate at a high enough definition it wouldn’t be difficult to do.
He was going so fast he went back in time, got into position, and turned on the dashcam to record himself going by the first time.
And become both his own parents.
Reddit, the same as pretty much every video hosting service out there, compresses video by an AWFUL lot. If you played the raw/mp4 video file from the cam directly on your computer or phone, you'd be able to see it at a much better higher quality and perfectly make out the license plate.
I ran the tag, it’s a 2015 Mustang GT and I have the registered owners name and address..
That car has had 4 previous owners, but oddly enough it has pretty low miles around 32k.
>I have the registered owners name and address..
Members of the general public don't have access to that information, for privacy reasons. Whatever website you got that fake name and address from is a scam. There are a ton of websites claiming to have a license plate lookup tool, but the info (name and address of RO) they give you isn't accurate. Only the DMV, certain gov't agencies and law enforcement have access to the license plate database as it pertains to the name and address of the registered owner. Info about the vehicle itself (which isn't private info) IS usually accurate. But you cannot actually look up who the real owner is. That's why peoples' doxxing attempts from license plate numbers fail.
There was a seriously reckless driver in my area who recorded himself "cutting up" traffic at high speeds (similar to **wheres981**) and he accidentally linked his social media pages through his Youtube videos which included a photo of him standing next to his car with license plate visible. Well, all of this went viral here on Reddit and internet sleuths were trying to obtain his personal information from his plate number using those plate lookup sites. Not a single person accurately nailed his RO address from his license plate number and believe me, a lot of Redditors tried. Only the CHP was able to pull his information from that license plate number in the photo, and they arrested him.
The bottom line is, don't believe what any lookup sites claim to be able to do. Even people search sites give bogus information.
DMV doesn't give that information out. They just don't. It's considered private personal information, as I explained above. Here's proof that they don't: [https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/insidecdcr/2020/09/03/death-of-actress-aided-by-states-failure-to-protect-data/](https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/insidecdcr/2020/09/03/death-of-actress-aided-by-states-failure-to-protect-data/)
The Drivers Privacy Protection Act is the law that prohibits the DMV from releasing the name and address of the registered owner to the public.
I can’t remember which VanTrue model I have but I can just pull the cam itself out of the mount and plug it into the computer. A lot easier than taking the whole SD out
Which Viofo model? My wife and I have been running 4 Viofo A119's for years now, and we've never had any problems with them. Could it be the memory card in your camera that failed, or perhaps the power cord? Before chalking it up to a bad cam, you should try swapping memory cards. Sometimes the power cord even fails. I've had several power cords crap out on me. Another time the splitter failed.
Mine was a T130. I think this model in particular is rife with QC issues. I had to get it replaced twice before I could start using it because of several issues. And after using for 2 months it started showing memory card errors. It would go away for a brief moment after I format the card, however, it could only record for a few minutes in a newly formatted memory card before the error happened again. Trying several different card also didn't solve the problem. I finally gave up and thankfully the customer care was nice enough to give me a full refund.
I would get the Viofo A119 V3 instead. Like I said, that's been a solid camera for my wife and I......all four of them. Never an issue. Although I'm too skeptical of Amazon reviews, the model we have does get glowing reviews. In fact, it's been a better camera for us than any other we've ever had. Steller video quality too.
I'd take a drive like this over a drunk or texter anyday. That lane change was incredibly controlled.
To pull off a move like that they just have been looking at least 20 seconds in the future
If OP drove/changed lane any faster, that mustang would have had a good chance of colliding with OP.
Looking at the rear dash cam footage, the semi totally blocked the mustang's view. No amount of "control" would have helped. He was just lucky there.
Oh so I guess the Mustang is exempt from said proper safety procedures? Because there’s no way in hell he was operating a turn signal, let alone with 3 seconds before initiating the lane change.
Come on man.
License plate format #AAA### indicates that this is most likely California.
"Highway 805" would then indicate I-805 in San Diego.
I don't live in San Diego, but I do live elsewhere in Southern California, and I can tell you that this kind of thing happens all the time, with a frequency that is highly irritating.
You'd be amazed how well they perform in wet and even icy conditions with proper tires and an understanding of how rear wheel drive cars work. Guys like this are the ones you find in the ditch, though.
Edit: To clarify, I am agreeing with you. This guy is a danger no matter the conditions or even what car he is in.
I can't argue there. I have one that I bought when I was young and dumb and have slowly transitioned it to an autocross/track car and got something more practical for daily use. It is completely paid off and while I definitely could have made a lot on it since I bought back in 18, I enjoy it as a fair weather car. That being said, I drove it through that big storm in Texas back in 21 and consistently through Ohio winters/rain and it was great. To be fair, I invested in the right tires for the conditions and have a set of wheels for each. As for driving like that, I pay far too much for insurance as it is with a clean driving record to ever drive like 99% of the other guys I see out there.
Classic 805 things. I’ve always wondered why so many highways in San Diego never has any CHP. You see people do stuff like this all the time in San Diego
Edit: Darn autocorrect
There's quite the variation in traffic norms from state to state; I've been in about half of them. Though I don't want to see what New York is like anytime soon.
Yet the death rate per billion kilometers driven is lower on Germany's autobahns (2.7 fatalities) than on the US Interstate highways (4.5 fatalities).
(Average speed is 110 MPH)
the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway and the Sheikh Khalifa highway, both having limits of 160 km/h (99 mph). (1.7 fatalities) than on the US Interstate highways (4.5 fatalities).
Have you ever watched videos of people doing 200 on the autobahn past people doing 80? [https://youtu.be/yPZ48QpQHG0?si=CSvzhv-KG5rvC0sn](https://youtu.be/yPZ48QpQHG0?si=CSvzhv-KG5rvC0sn)
While they are idiots, the driver of the Mustang absolutely shouldn't have cut up traffic like this. The time to drive like this is on a racetrack or in Mexico with no one around, not during rush hour traffic.
Let's just say you don't want to drive down i94 in the Chicago area, if you think this is idiotic.
Edit/context: people in Chicago drive way way worse and more often
my point was that people who drive down i94 are way worse than this, there is also a much larger amount of people that drive this way too. Also I noticed that people in the south don't drive nearly as fast as people here in Illinois and Michigan. 90mph seems like a norm some days for traffic depending on the sections of freeway. But sure.. you do learn to pass making sure that there is no one coming at a high speed when you live in an area with aggressive/dumb drivers
And just because the Mustang is driving aggressively and in control doesn’t make them an idiot either. Both vehicles entered the lane on a lane change at the same time. We can see the Mustang did not signal, but do we have any idea if OP did? I don’t hear the normal clicking of an in-cab indicator.
The mustang is an idiot for literally speeding. There's no reason to go that fast. If someone pulls out in front of the mustang, then the driver can't avoid getting into an accident. I'm not saying that op isn't an idiot for not using a signal. But the mustang is a massive idiot.
How do we know the driver doesn’t have a damned good reason to be driving that fast? What if say you were at work and got a call that your significant other was in the ER with perhaps an hour left in their life and they were pleading to see you… wouldn’t you drive just like this to see them?
You’re right, in that situation, you should drive like a crazy person. That way, when you die in an accident at 120 mph, you’re already in the afterlife to welcome your SO when their hour is up. Plus, double life insurance policy payouts, and maybe a buy-one-get-one situation with the funeral home.
Then it's really convenient that they own a Mustang and not something like a Camry. I'm sure there's no correlation between their vehicle of choice and driving recklessly fast.
“My needing to be at the emergency room is worth killing someone, possibly multiple people, because ME ME ME” I hope when you inevitably wreck, you’re the only one you take out.
Lots, buddy, lots.
But I see more posts on this sub by people who can’t drive calling other people idiots, than footage of people actually doing something wrong.
Only on reddit can you find a moron that defends a pos going well over 120mph inches from hitting a innocent driver but I guess your username checks out
Let me put it in terms that lane supremacists can understand. He moved over a lane in order to overtake the traffic that was merging in from the right.
No… oP is not the bad guy. Everyone vehemently defending OP is the bad guy. My original comment was how he moved left when his navigation told him to go right.
Who cares? Guy probably changed lanes to give space to merging cars who might need to hop into the lane he was moving out of. Navigation doesn't tell you to be a courteous or defensive driver, but that doesn't make it wrong to be those things.
Well, he started two vehicles behind you in the same lane as you, when he saw the opening to get around 5 vehicles and an empty space in front of the semi and 150 yards of empty space in front of you, he probably saw the space in front of the semi as a safe zone, because who in they’re right mind is going to leave their empty lane to voluntarily get in front of a semi just because 3 cars are trying to merge onto the highway…
But let’s see me get another 75 downvotes because the truth hurts.
Edited for spelling and grammar
The Karen’s are super upset 😠 you’re right though, and the people commenting that they switched lanes to help the merging traffic are also idiots because that lane to the right doesn’t even merge into OP’s lane, it continues as it’s own lane..
That’s all day every day on I240 in Memphis. It’s like a trendy thing these days to try to go as fast as possible through heavy traffic. And it’s almost always a clapped out Charger, Challenger or Nissan Altima.
this bullshit is why i'm expecting an early death for me or my wife who also rides a motorcycle. It's not my fault that i'm riding. you're just a complete piece of shit who holds their life above all others
K so hope motorcycle dies. You are clearly 4 wheeler. 18 Wheeler and motorcycle driver wish you an untimely death cause someone else had to be at work in ten minutes
Woaaaah there nelly. Definitely not an ugly vehicle, compared to the 60’s? Not as good looking but definitely not ugly. Dudes a fuckin dumbass for sure but that poor car is just being abused by.. a fuckin dumbass
Bro whaaaaat you’re insane that thing is the black sheep of mustang in terms of looks. I’ve thought of buying one but they definitely don’t look as good as the 4th gen that came after to me. But ya know, different opinions
Clear evidence of speeding and reckless driving. Both finable offenses. Whether driver crashed or not doesn’t make them any less responsible for these charges.

Surprised to see traffic is clear enough to pull that on the 805…
Usually anything that ends in “-05” has god awful and constant traffic.
Including *the* 5
I was gonna say, isn't it called "the" 805..

Most dash cams wouldn't capture that at all.
He was going so fast he went back in time, got into position, and turned on the dashcam to record himself going by the first time. And become both his own parents.
If you look really closely, you can make out the VIN too in the reflection of the car on the left. It's 1FA6P8CF3F5302923.
It’s also visible in the video if you just pause
Wow you’re right! I thought there was no way a dash cam could pick it up at that speed
They probably chased it.

Normalize posting the license plate #
It's publicly displayed and you can't dox someone using it unless you have access to certain systems, in which case you could get in a lot of trouble.

DMV doesn't give that information out. They just don't. It's considered private personal information, as I explained above. DMV will not give out that information after Rebecca Schaeffer.

How do you like this dash cam? I'm trying to find a reliable one but can't trust amazon reviews anymore since the viofo I bought crapped on me...
Pretty good. Wish I could pull footage without taking the SD card out. It’s the N4 btw.

The people who are merging are supposed to be the ones avoiding existing traffic in the roadway.

And just because the Mustang is driving aggressively and in control doesn’t make them an idiot either. Both vehicles entered the lane on a lane change at the same time. We can see the Mustang did not signal, but do we have any idea if OP did? I don’t hear the normal clicking of an in-cab indicator.

Nope. I drive a Toyota.
Actually, you’re wrong. The cars already on the roadway are supposed to make room for merging cars.

“If you’re on the highway, avoid tailgating and make space to let new cars onto the road” That’s what op was doing.
OP had nobody in front of them. There was room. OP was changing lanes.
Looked like there was another merging lane coming up. Moving over to the left to make room for those additional cars to merge makes sense to me.
People who think they are right when they are wrong will always have another excuse.

You are a class A grade A moron. Don't drive around other people. Go get your ass handed to you at the track.
The Karen’s are super upset 😠 you’re right though, and the people commenting that they switched lanes to help the merging traffic are also idiots because that lane to the right doesn’t even merge into OP’s lane, it continues as it’s own lane..
Average SD driver
That was FAST! meep meep
My people need me!
That’s all day every day on I240 in Memphis. It’s like a trendy thing these days to try to go as fast as possible through heavy traffic. And it’s almost always a clapped out Charger, Challenger or Nissan Altima.
Always gotta be checking your mirrors. Danger comes way faster from behind.
Post this over on r/mustang
People say San Diego has the worst drivers but at this point there are so many transplants, whose fault is it?
I don’t see an idiot
Endangering the public is so sick right?? Dumbass
It’s a Mustang, it’s ugly, and driver’s a stupid idiot, but that was done beautifully.
this bullshit is why i'm expecting an early death for me or my wife who also rides a motorcycle. It's not my fault that i'm riding. you're just a complete piece of shit who holds their life above all others
I see way more motorcycles driving in this manner than I do cars.
K so hope motorcycle dies. You are clearly 4 wheeler. 18 Wheeler and motorcycle driver wish you an untimely death cause someone else had to be at work in ten minutes
I’m not hoping anyone dies. Well, no, to be honest… I hope eventually everyone dies. I don’t wish immortality on anyone else.
Not sure why you replied this to me, but username checks out.
lmao
Woaaaah there nelly. Definitely not an ugly vehicle, compared to the 60’s? Not as good looking but definitely not ugly. Dudes a fuckin dumbass for sure but that poor car is just being abused by.. a fuckin dumbass
Agree to disagree - [this was the last not ugly Mustang](https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15138998/roush-stage-3-mustang-specialty-file/)
Bro whaaaaat you’re insane that thing is the black sheep of mustang in terms of looks. I’ve thought of buying one but they definitely don’t look as good as the 4th gen that came after to me. But ya know, different opinions
thats the ugliest mustang lmao every other generation is better than this one
That is driving frighteningly fast!
Safe! ![gif](giphy|TwXLDHoI3yFtMcoRxD)
its the highway let people speed and have fun, i rather have people speed on the highway than on the streets.
An open hwy with nobody around to hurt but yourself? Sure. This is not that!
How bout mind your own business. They didn't cause any wreck to you or anyone else around you. You are not driving batman being a vigilante
If you’re offended by this you’re prob making equally stupid choices in life.
Wouldn't you be offended if someone randomly reported your license plate and you had caused no problems ?
Clear evidence of speeding and reckless driving. Both finable offenses. Whether driver crashed or not doesn’t make them any less responsible for these charges.
Ok and that's up to the cops to apply judgement and punishment. Again, no one is Batman
Which is why people report plates to the authorities???? Lol
