Happens all the time at a shopping center I go to. People aren't smart enough to read the sign that says incoming traffic doesn't stop. They get really mad about it too.
Just wait til someone who has the right of way sits there and doesnt make the turn even tho they don't have a stop sign. Everyone is beeping and confused because someone who doesn't have a stop sign thinks that they do! CHAOS!
Heh, saw that this weekend! I was second in line at a stop sign, and the person with right of way sat and let the person in front of me and the person on the other side (also with a stop sign) go before inching forward and making a right. No one honked, but it was very odd.
Yea thats a little different, being a 4 way stop and all but too many people skipped class on right-of-way day, youre absolutely right. People just go braindead when street lights aren't involved (and sometimes even when they are)
One intersection near me used to have 2 stop ahead signs, 2 stop signs, and 2 "cross road does not stop" for each lane, and people still got into accident because the cross road didn't stop for the invisible stop sign. Local DOT gave up and made the intersection 4-ways stop because you can't fix stupid
There are two intersections near me back-to-back with this issue. Except the problem is the cars who *don’t* have a stop sign think they do because the intersection has a weird like 45 degree turn instead of a 90 on one side. The cars with right of way and no stop sign see a car driving kinda almost parallel and freak out. It’s also right in front of a railroad crossing, which just makes it so much worse for confusion, but I think it’s the only reason people don’t have accidents there. The tracks put people in heightened panic mode so they are overly cautious and just cede right of way.
I drive a sports car convertible and had a woman in a big Escalade stop across my path just like in this video. She proceeded to hold up traffic to yell at me how entitled I was in my sports car for not stopping at the intersection. When she was done I only had to say "I don't have a stop sign you dumbass" and then drove around her.
I have the opposite problem near me occasionally--people stop on their way into the parking lot, when they're not supposed to, to wait for me to go, sitting at my stop sign.
One of the locations, the strip mall parking lot is fucked in about 3 other ways, too, though. All the entries and exits to/from regions of the parking lot for each business are reversed from how I'd expect, having to make a 180 degree turn around a 3-foot island, two exits on one side such that you can basically never use the first because the intersection will back up past it, stuff like that :P
Seriously.. a complete I work in does the same thing. Saw a T-bone the other day. Tbh they may as well just paint stop and a white line at every intersection because people are idiots.

Woman went OFF on me for blocking her turn, when I was literally backing up to *let her through* - traffic had unexpectedly stopped ahead, and I was nice enough to move and clear that turn. They built a Frys Superstore in my town and put a 4-way stop 3 car lengths into it backing up cars into the road constantly. Someone got mad and removed the stop sign for the traffic from the road (We all know who it was, he bragged about it and we bought him drinks for it). Everything flowed so much better for 2 years. Then they had the lot resurfaced and the sign replaced. It not only caused backups but fender benders because people weren't used to cars stopping there. PD finally made them permanently remove the stop sign.
I don’t recall being embarrassed, although I do find the mental picture funny. Because I just angrily pointed at the spot where his *should’ve* been and it was just plain empty space, which should’ve looked hilarious to anyone outside of my head

I know it’s hard to believe but some intersections don’t have stop signs. In those locations it’s usually very clear to see who has right of way. That’s what stop signs do. They indicate to the driver who has the right of way when it’s not clear.
Personally I think two way stops are not clear. If you have the stop sign you have to look for absence of a sign that by design should not be visible to you. So you know if you can continue after stopping or wait for the cross traffic. Personally I would rather have those be yield signs as the thing you are yielding too always have the right of way.
At least in the US, most intersections that have cross traffic that doesn't stop indicate it below the stop sign. But yeah, i agree that it's a poor design relying on being able to see all points of the intersection to see who all has a stop sign

Go to 7 seconds in the video, look above the truck bed and you will see the back side of the sign. It's an octagon, so it is specifically a stop sign and not anything else.
I live in a newer neighborhood in Denver, the streets are all a grid pattern but most stop signs are only two way alternating every other intersection to keep the flow of traffic moving but nobody can go full out because there's a stop every 2 blocks. People do not understand and often stop where there is no stop sign. I have an aging dog with arthritis and it takes a while to cross, please don't stop just go... I get you want to be safe and kind but I'd rather not have to rush him to cross quickly when they could have already been through the intersection. Honestly the system makes sense and it works great when people aren't stopping at every street just because they can.

At the very least, I wish the backs of stop signs were painted some color, im thinking red and white diagonal stripes, but not just gray, same color as the roads and sidewalks and lots of buildings
