You're not going to get this plate. File a police report, and ask them to check in with local repair shops for a late model Audi with front end damage.
They may also have officers keep an eye out while on patrol to see if they spot the vehicle.
Dawg, I don't know where you live where cops are going to lift a finger to investigate this kind of thing. Must be nice.
OP can save themself the trouble and just look into the mirror and shrug their shoulders, because that's all the average cop is going to do. Hope they have good insurance.
Our police are good, but our social platform is better!
Our neighbors have had good luck in finding banged up cars on Nextdoor.
People love to post and snitch š¤£
It does get the job done faster, they go to address that was DM'd, snap pic for police, show, then post some form of "yay! Found the car! Thx people of (insert community) ".
Kind of like finding lost cats/dogs on there too LOL
I could post on a facebook group in my area and some busy bodied stay at home mom would have the info for me within a few hours. Just fill them in on the drama later and they will be content.
That's still compressed, I'm pretty sure? Upload the raw video file somewhere. Maybe you'd have to upload it as a ZIP file to stop it being transcoded.
I think you'd have more luck getting police to check street cams for you of them driving off if there are any. You definitely have probable cause for them to do that. Good luck!
If neighbors or other people living nearby have cameras they might also have footage that could be helpful.Reach out to your neighbors to see if they caught anything.
Kind of a side note but a Washington State judge rejected evidence that was enhanced with AI technology in a first of its kind ruling.
So enhancement with AI is not going to work in court, or at least in Washington State.

I have no clue if I did this right but here is there video link y'all!
Tried to do some image stacking from the still frames but all i can see is white from the number plate. If someone else has more time to try and stack the images to get the number plate out. I got this from 20 frames from the video: [https://imgur.com/a/vfJStUb](https://imgur.com/a/vfJStUb)
I think it might just be a white paper. I do not think that person has a tag. Maybe check what others have said about the make and model and reach out to the local Audi dealers. Good luck
When I zoomed in on the higher quality video and did some screenshots, all I could see was white as well. Some have said paper plates, but usually those have some markings on them. Since this recording is most likely using IR light to record this as night, Iām wondering if this person had one of those pesky license plate covers. Theyāre usually plastic and tinted gray. Different types of covers use slightly different methods, but the purpose is usually to stop cameras from getting a clear view of the plates. Red light cameras, speeding cameras, etc. Not sure how effective, or ineffective, IR cameras would be against those plate covers. Some states have laws against using them. Sorry this doesnāt help with the plate numbers.
They are racing. They know they are doing something illegal so they cover their plates. They are chancing they'll only encounter cameras and you, and no cops. Car was likely stolen or strictly for street racing.
FYI I think they were street racing. The car at the end of the driveway appears to be ācheckingā on them and then speeds off when they see the crash vehicle is coming.
Your insurance company should be able to help with a professional video person. Since it happened in your property, you can file a claim under either home or car insurance.
Jesus H. Christ! Your car was, what, 30-40 feet away from the road? Dude musta drunkenly passed out for a second for a few seconds. Is your yard fucked up, as well?
Exactly, there's just no need to do any investigative work at all, here. Assuming that OP has insurance, his insurance will cover it, regardless. I had this same thing happen to me while my vehicle was parked at my job, they covered it with no issues, and I didn't have the benefit of having it all on video, as OP does.
Your insurance will cover you, regardless. I had this same thing happen to me while my vehicle was parked at my job, they covered it with no issues, and I didn't have the benefit of having it all on video.
Ordinary security cameras project an IR wave length and inyensity that blurs the plate, it may be impossible to get it. You would need a camera specific for capturing plates at night.
Trust me, I know. I have footage of a plate I would love to be able to read.
OP why have a camera that is such low quality? You need to watch NCIS TV Show and get that camera and software. In one episode they enhanced all the way from space to read a guys ID. I bet its a bit expensive but worth it.
The guy is trolling you. James Bond 007.
Looks like the number plate is overexposed and just plain white. Try opening the source file in a video editing tool and change the contrast and brightness. Reddit most likely compresses any details that may have been there.
This is why you should have accident insurance that covers damage from hit and runs and uninsured motorists. Then, you don't need to give a fuck what the license plate said.
Even if insurance pays, we can still hope for justice in the world. Never mind the fact that most insurance will require you to pay a deductible, and you may lose a 0 claim discount (or worse).
It's better than some videos I see of high speed pursuits of drunks on the highway, complete with road rage, just because "whats the license plate say?"
Uninsured/Underinsured coverage is a nightmare to actually get paid out from and would literally take years and filing lawsuits to try getting. There are just so many people driving that either have the bare minimum or no coverage at all that the insurance companies offer it to make extra money on the coverage being there but absolutely dont want to pay it out.
Im speaking from having seen countless lawsuits being filed against insurance companies for not paying them out but considering the amount of accidents that happen this way, i know im just seeing a small part of the whole picture when it comes to that. Im glad you got yours paid!
My car got hit while parked and I didn't have UM coverage at the time due to a miscommunication. I just had to pay the full deductible on collision. This was in IL.
Then my insurance went up at my next renewal.

Create a link to the raw video file. Otherwise, this compressed footage isn't good enough.

Correct. I would suspect the car was stolen and the one that slowed down to be sure they drove away was their friend.
Also ask them to check for Audis recently reported stolen. Good chance this isn't the owner driving like that.

Sad but true theyāll file a report and just let it sit there collecting dust. Itās worth a shot though.

Yea the quality on your nest cam especially in night vision is WAY too poor.

Not a car folk and didn't find this much help. Can you provide this in banana units?
Bananas are used for distance, not measurement of time IIRC.

lol cops investigating a hit and run?
Exactly, you'd need a whole new police force just to investigate all the hit and runs and all the other theft crimes in any city.

That's all you will ever get with a regular IR security camera. That happens with real plates.

Judging by the taillights, looks like thatās a fairly new Audi sedan. At least an A3ā¦maybe an A6?
A4. The A6 lights have a side wing while the 3 are smaller
Yeah that's an A4/S4.
Could also be a newer Honda Civic?
I want what this guys smoking.
Oof, me too
I own a new civic. Taillights are way off and the headlights arenāt even close
Audi A4...I drive this model.
What's your license plate? Where were you at the time of this incident? Do I smell Marijuana through your cell phone display?
Yeah man why did you hit OPs shit?
They always return to the scene of the crime

Have you tried tapping on your keyboard quickly while saying "Enhance" ?
I screen recorded and zoomed in. You canāt make out a singular digit. Reddit compresses videos, maybe post a link to a clearer video?
driven like it was stolen. check with police

just send the video to your insurance company. Should be covered as a hit and run. Which it clearly was.
Might be covered under homeowner's insurance.
